Rise of The Tomb Raider + Mystery Games for US $12 (~AU$15.12) @ Humble Bundle

620

Rise of the Tomb Raider is USD$59.99 on Steam or at least ~AUD$23 on G2A so it's a pretty good deal to get ROTTR and more for less.

It's only the base game FYI of which isn't sold anymore on steam

That sucks, the extra tombs are some of the best parts.

      • Yeah I'm disappointed too

      • I definitely recommend the Baba Yaga add-on. Very atmospheric!

  • I was wanting to purchase Rise of the Tomb Raider but with it not including the season pass I think getting the 20 year celebration edition off CDkeys.com or the like would be a more frugal purchase.

Oh damn. Wish I read these comments before instantly purchasing.
'Rise' has been on my wishlist since its release, I guess I just assumed the DLC was mostly multiplayer stuff like it was in the first reboot game.

Ah well, hopefully whatever games I also get at the end of the month from the bundle will make up for and be worth it, guess I'll wait for a 75% off sale on the season pass itself at some point then.

Even without the season pass for Rise of the Tomb Raider, I still think this is a good deal. The extra games included each month always have very good titles (eg, Banner Saga 2 and Worms WMD were both on my radar to pick up and were included last month).

  • Yeah i might actually get this one.. first time :)
will get the season pass when it's on special

    • Well now i don't have to.. won it elsewhere.. woot !

I completed the 20 year edition. It's good.

The DLC you can live without. There's mainly two story based DLCs. One is accessible from within the campaign (Baba Yaga), with its own side story. The other (Blood Ties) is accessed from the menu and all you do is examine documents. It plays exactly like a Gone Home style walking sim. There are more than 50 documents to find and look at, and it tells a story.

There's also a new zombie survival mode but isn't story DLC. I didn't particularly enjoy this mode.

I don't think you're missing a whole lot if you don't get the DLC, but if you can get 20 Anniv for $20 AUD or so then get it.

I've been subbed for 18? months and I've yet to come across any of the headline games sold as a deluxe/gold edition. Personally I think it's a deliberate ploy to sell the base game at a cheap price knowing full well that DLC never really gets discounted to gold edition prices so they can have a second bite at the cherry and make you pay for it if you want the GOTY/gold edition.

    • Yep, exact reason I have never bothered with humble monthly…(in addition to the inherent risk of undisclosed games)

I have no probs with it.. I find there's enough of a game in there for ~$16, let alone paying about the same for DLC which is usually just a couple of extra missions etc.

Not worth paying 100% more for 20% more content.

        • Yeah, I guess it just depends on whether you want the full gold//goty edition or not.

I'd rather pay 100% more for 20% more content, than pay for the 80% twice just to get the extra 20%!

Pretty much any game I have been interested enough to purchase in the humble monthly, I know I would want the gold/goty edition, so not worth paying twice!

    • Oh I don't doubt it for a second

    • I think you're onto something.

It's the same way how EA sells games super cheap, like Mass Effect TRilogy for $5 but never discounts the DLCs. If you buy all the DLCs for ME2 and ME3, you're looking at $90 USD. The base game is sold cheap as a trojan horse to upsell you on expensive DLC.

      • What gave it away for me was when they did that Black Ops III 'starter' edition. It was, literally, just an add for the rest of the game. I reckon they probably got a lot of heat over that and haven't done anything similar since.

I get double ups of headline games but I still keep my sub. I don't buy any of those one off bundles anymore because the quality of said games is usually questionable. At least with the monthly thing, filler games are of a generally high standard and if i get 5-7 of those for $16, I consider it a win.

If you wanted the season pass, the Square Enix store has it on sale (surprise surprise) - 12 usd. Doesn't usually go lower (was 11.99 usd in previous steam sale)

    https://store.na.square-enix.com/product/294280/rise-of-the-…

    • Yep, with the combination of the Humble Bundle and the Season Pass from Square Enix, it comes out being slightly cheaper than buying a RotTR: 20 Year Celebration key elsewhere from say G2A/Kinguin, not to mention of course buying through Humble Bundle and Square Enix supports charity and the game developers directly.

The sale on the Square Enix store ends Tuesday.

    • Is Season pass similar to GOTY edition?
Edit: don't worry, apparently season pass require the basic edition…

      • +1

        standard + season = goty

    • Damn, missed this one? Shows at $29.99 now.

      • Just have to wait for a steam sale now, always sells for this price

  • Should I go for the monthly subscription, get the Tomb Raider and unsubscribe immediately?
I am fan of getting long term subscription.

    • Oops, typo.
I am NOT fan of getting long term subscription.

      • Yes you can cancel straight away. Youll get tomb raider immediately and the other games the 1st friday of next month

If you've ever bought a regular humble bundle before, you might have a 10% coupon available for your 1st monthly subscription.

  • On sale for $24 USD on steam now for the 20th Anniversary Edition (all DLC) http://store.steampowered.com/app/391220/Rise_of_the_Tomb_Ra…

Better off with Humble or DLC?

    • Obviously best to buy the Humble Base for $12USD, then add the DLC from steam for $12USD

      • +you get more games next week.
