Hi, i am travelling overseas this weekend ad just wondering if anyone knows if there are still long security delays at the airport, or have things quietened down?? Do I still need to be there 3 hours before???
Check-in time at Melbourne airport
Comments
also have question about check in time for domestic flight at sydney. is 1 hour arrive at airport before departure enough?
Sydney domestic (Qantas at least) has been operating normally over the last several weeks.
Going by your username, I'd go with the universally recommened 3 hours before. Better off sitting down at the gate waiting than sitting at home doing nothing, then run late.
you only need to arrive 5 minutes before your flight.
FFS, these forum posts are becoming more and more inept
Hahahaha, don't listen to this knob
As are the comments.
Yeah just give yourself plenty of time, it's ok pushing it for a domestic flight when you only stand to lose <$200 but for international just get there early.
I travel overseas frequently for business and usually arrive no more than 1.5 hours before my flight. It never takes more than half an hour to get through bag drop, customs and immigration at the time I leave
Normally i would do exactly the same this weekend (also a business trip), but am wondering if anyone knows if the heightened security implemented a few months back is still in place.
Reason i am asking is because it be hard for me to get there 3 hours before - will need to change another arrangementIf you travel frequently, you would have know the answer. So I take it, either you don't travel frequently or you classified 'frequently' as once a month.
Perhaps the OP hasn't travelled since the stupid new screening came into effect, it's only been a month or so. "Frequently" doesn't have to mean every 5 minutes.
As you said, it's has only been a month. If he travel 'frequently', then he would know.
@electriccurio: Perhaps this conversation would be easier if you used a reasonable English definition of the word "frequently" instead of making up your own and expecting everyone else to know it?
Travelling abroad for business every month would certainly be frequent for most people.
Sydney seemed to be back to normal 3 weeks ago and also about 7 weeks ago. But if you mis-time it and there are several big flights together, you will be slowed. I do not understand people trying to cut it close. So many things can go wrong, including traffic/accidents, public transport breakdowns etc.
How frequent is frequent?
I very nearly missed an overseas flight before due to the delays getting through customs and it used up most of the 3 hours before my flight that i arrived at the airport. Not always going to be like this but you just can't know on the day if there will be delays getting through customs.
Flew overseas last week and returned yesterday. No issues. 2hoirs before international is ample! With the new self service e-passport, immigration is cleared in 2 mins!
Yeah, friend left for holiday the other day and said they did a facial scan and was through immigration in 5mins at Melbourne airport.
Hasn't the recommendation always been 3 hours for international travel?
