  • Thank you soo much,
I was just about to unlock my phone and pay $150 for it.
    Thanks again for Anthony..
    Unlocked now Hurray………

  • The unlock team was suprising friendly this time around (I've called them in the past). It is now quite easy to get it unlocked for free.

The only slight issue is that the team is rather busy so it took a while for them to answer my call. It probably because many people are trying to get their iPhones unlocked.

Telstra is slowly getting more competitive. Next wish list: get the online usage status working properly and quickly. I still feel I've been overcharged for data every month.

Big thank you to the OP! Thanks to all the other non-Telstra providers offering free unlock so Tel$tra decided to offer the same deal.

    • Now that Telstra has dropped this fee, I find their iphone plans very competitive. The only downside a the moment is you only get 500Mb on the $49/month plan compared to 1000-1500Mb on other providers. But for me, I don't need a huge amount of data, and the fact that the coverage in the ACT of all other providers is sh*t, and Telstra's is great is an easy choice for me.

  • if I bought the phone 2nd hand and it's locked with Telstra, can I still unlock it?

    • -2

no, unless you can get in touch with the person you bought it from and they will have to phone with there information. Including telstra password.

      • Are you sure? I bought mine off eBay (though it was new) which was locked to Telstra. When I called up I said I had an account with Telstra (prepaid) which had expired, I didn't known the phone number as I don't use it, and all they asked for was the IMEI.

  • Just got through to someone in the unlock department. Was on hold a bit over 15 minutes.
Took my IMEI number and said something, then asked if I wanted to complete a small survey at the end of the call. I said sure, and asked if the unlock had gone through OK when the call disconnected. Hopefully it's gone through. Right now my phone is running jailbroken 3.1.3 with an Optus SIM so hopefully I don't have to do a restore or any thing (which will force a 4.1 update) to find out if/when it's gone through.

    • If my method below doesn't work for you, you can always restore to 3.1.3 so long as your SHSH is saved in Cydia server or in you computer using tinyumbrella. Just google it.

Do you think this would work as I would like to buy this for my daughter who is graduating this year.
Buy from pocketronics at $299 and then contact Telstra to unlock I phone

  • Has anyone here who unlocked their iPhone received a message via iTunes saying it is unlocked WITHOUT doing a restore? I really don't want to risk doing a restore if it's not unlocked. Thanks :)

No need to restore. I did reset network settings then connected it to itunes. Nothing happened at first then I switched it off and on then connected to itunes again. This time my iphone showed the connect to itunes logo. But it was stucked at that and itunes didn't respond. So after waiting for few minutes I unplugged the cable and plugged it back. This time itunes recognized it and it said "Congratulation, your iphone has been unlocked"

Thanks! I had to remove ultrasnow first for this to work for me :)

  • Woohoo! My iPhone is now unlocked :)

  • argh about time. i had to get my parents to unlock my 3gs casuse they had x amount of services with telstra. I foned up and they unlocked it withing 5 hours.

  • Brilliant. Been stuck with a iPhone locked solely (seemingly) to Telstra 3G. With this, which just worked perfectly :), I'm now able to use my Telstra prepaid SIM in my iPhone 3G.

They needed the original phone number (thank you iTunes for reporting that) and the IMEI, and after about 30 mins and connecting with the new SIM installed, hey presto.

Freaking brilliant; thanks heaps. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this earlier.
