70 Piece Socket & Spanner Set $19.99 (save $32) @ Repco

550

70 pieces. Metric and SAE Standard.
¼" and ⅜" drivers.

GV Tools. I'm sure you get what you pay for but this is bloody cheap, good for occasionally changing a spark plug or oil filter.

Store locations.

Appears to come with 10 spanners and 33 sockets. There's also a screwdriver set in there.

Looks like it comes with 5 metric spanners and 15 sockets, and 5 sae spanners & 15 sockets, plus small/large socket adapter, extension and a few other bits as well as the screwdriver set and case. So yep - good deal. My last cheap ratchet spanner fell to pieces a couple of weeks ago so might jump on this. Thanks, OP.

  • Is this going to much of an upgrade over my $8.95 socket set from bunnings? https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-40-piece-socket-set-1…

    • This set has spanners that comes in handy for some DIYs

      • I dont really need spanners- more if it's an upgrade in terms of quality. The sockets from my bunnings set already have marks

        • I don't have the one from Bunnings to compare. I was only referring to value of the deal compared to one from Bunnings. I would use my set maybe once every 4 months or so. Most sets would be reasonable enough for my usage.

        • honestly they're both pretty bottom-of-barrel in terms of quality, i doubt it'd be much of an upgrade. they'll both get the job done for basic stuff though.

    • This is my question too. I have something similar and it has lasted 15 years just fine, with occasional usage maybe once per 6 months.

I think the more expensive ratchets (the one with larger heads) have finer ratcheting mechanisms (more clicks) which means you can do more turning in a smaller space.

This deal seems to have a more traditional smaller ratchet handle, so might not be worthwhile, but I am only guessing.

    • No, but sockets are useful for other things. Sometimes you need to undo bolts with a nut on the end, and they're both the same size.
Comes up a lot in car work.

  • good price for the amount of stuff in that, but yeah like OP said you definitely get what you pay for - I have a 1/2" drive socket set in repco's GV Tools brand and the quality is very poor. far below SCA's generic branded stuff.

The toolpro stuff is reasonable for the money - when on sale. IMO the SCA stuff is okay for entry level stuff, but the toolpro stuff is solid for general work.

      • yep 100% agree, the toolpro stuff is very decent quality and definitely worth picking up when on special.

The GV Tools 7 Pc Ratcheting Wrench Set for $20 (save $43) seems to be pretty good for a set in the car..

FYI guys the place I went to (Heatherton) had it on the shelves full price but it scanned as $19.99

    • This was the same case at my local, they said they hadn't had a chance to resticker them

  • mmm good for an extra Christmas present

  • Had anyone bought the same before & can comment on their quality? I bought some cheap unbranded ones ages ago and the ratchet only lasted me like 3 times of light usage before dying on me.

    Absolute bargain. Great find OP!!
I'm not much of a tools person, but always seem to be in need of a 10mm socket. Guess it's useful for those once in a blue moon uses

Anyway went to the Altona North store, and would not recommend going there. Asked if there were any in stock and they said sure we have 5 available. After a few minutes of waiting I then was told they had misplaced them and not offered an apology, nor any offer to see if they could get any in or check if other stores have them.

Went to the footscray one, and although a much smaller store, they were happy to obtain stock and notify me when it arrives.

Least there's still some good customer service around.

  • Thanks op. Coopers plains qld now have 4 left.

Also in clearance section a larger version of both metric and imperial components. Together with electric clippers and sizers. $42 from $114.

Only needed occasionally use so purchased small set.

  • No where near worth $60. Worth $30 max.

    • I had a look today and it was extremely cheap quality. I'm not sure if I'd pay $20 for it. There were a couple of sets at Hamilton Newcastle store.
