  • Would be even better if the screen was touch enabled

My XPS 15 is touch enabled; easily the most useless feature I've seen in a laptop.

Yep I'm so glad that I can order my next X1 Carbon without the touchscreen option as it's lighter and brighter.

Then you're probably not using it right, or you don't have the right machine.

I bought a Samsung TabPro S with OLED touchscreen, it might as well be attached to me with an umbilical cord since I charged it up. It's an actual tablet though I use it mostly with the keyboard attached.

Touchmail for email. FeedLab for RSS feeds. ACGPLayer for video. TouchMe Gestures for chrome and others. Games like Rummi and Backgammon for starters.

Just so used to touching my iPad over the years, having a touch screen is just logical for me now.

Can't go back to non-OLED, thought this X1 might be the OLED one, shame it isn't.

Why are you comparing a tablet with a notebook? They're chalk and cheese. My X1 carbon with the touchscreen is utterly pointless whereas on my Miix 700 I use the touchscreen all the time.

@Maverick-au: I don't think of my tablet as a tablet, but as a notebook. It came with the keyboard, I use it with the keyboard 98% of the time.

The X1 has a faster CPU and more RAM, my device is lighter. Hardly chalk and cheese. More like Edam vs Gouda.

You are glad you can get an X1 without touch so it is lighter and brighter. My OLED screen is the brightest at 400+ nits.

      • I have a touch enabled Lenovo Helix. Once you get used to it, the combination of touch and keyboard is very fast and convenient. I thought it was a bit gimmicky at first but I miss it when I have to use a non touch laptop. Milage will vary depending on what applications you use.

Used to it… thats also why you miss it when you dont have access to it. Not necessarily because its great.

  • Seems pricey for specs?

    • Seems pricey for specs?

Why would you think that? Comparing a desktop build to one of the best ultraportable notebooks is pointless don't you think?

      • I agree with @Circly
It's ok, but no bargain at that price.

  • Really good price apart from the low storage.

  • This is a genuine question. Do you guys think it's worth waiting for Coffee Lake?

    • I just bought without waiting. Was hesitating too. But new carbon is likely to be announced just in January, a couple of months easily when it comes to Australia, wqhd screens god knows when, maybe next June? like it was this year. And for me extra processor power (even if it is 4 cores and +40% allegedly more performance) is much less important than great screen (14 inch and wqhd is what I need). And overall held it in hands at shop, I just like it how it feels, keyboard, weight, everything just great (if to compare with other brands, I considered new coming soon xps13 with intel gen 8). So personally decided not to wait.

      • Which store stocks the X1 carbon? I checked JB/HN/BL and couldn't find any

At least 2 stores in Capital Square Haymarket sell them.

  • although Amex deal is not there anymore, the price has decreased even more, 1749 now. Also great that it allows customization. Ordered one with WQHD screen, I think it is a must for reading to have smooth fonts.
