  • What kind of GoPro is it…?

    EDIT: Sorted.

    • +3

you gonna pay it in Ugandan monies?

      • +5

Yes, I will wire Big W the monies directly!

What model gopro? Just says hero, is that the Hero Session?

Edit: apparently GoPro renamed an old one to just "Hero"…

    • +3

This appears to be the GoPro Hero which came to the market years ago in 2014. It's a stripped down and most basic of the Hero models. Basically bottom of the line model. https://www.cnet.com/au/products/gopro-hero/review/

And here's a video review of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95-PMQBOKXA

Still a bargain at only $99.

Also note. The maximum Micro SD card supported by the GoPro Hero is only 32GB so that may be a limiting factor.

      • The limit likely is just a Fat32 limit, You can format larger SD cards to fat32 with other software such as ridgecorps fat32format.

        • +1

Maybe not. Not all devices can support for example 64GB Micro SD cards let alone 128GB, etc. The older the model is the lower size card it supports. It's a limiting factor in the hardware chipset design. And this GoPro Hero came out to the market in 2014 and would have been designed even before the release date so it's all a hardware design limit factor. Back then when designed 32GB Micro SD cards would have been the norm. So remember this is a 3 year old model and designed even before then.

        • @hollykryten: I hope someone can test it, Anyway someone at the bottom commented about the Hawkeye Firefly 7. Seems its pretty cheap on banggood for ~$85, Might be a better choice.

    • Yes this is the one. My apologies for the limited detail as its my first post.

  • Good price would get one but I'm all out of cash :(

    • +6

Then I'm guessing you don't have the cash to go snow boarding to film yourself

      • or you know maybe he'll have cash in the future?

      • That's what a bang good selfie stick is for.. Lol

  • Another issue will be finding stock. I rang a few BigWs in Sydney and no stock

  • Another unicorn?

    • Ehh not really a unicorn considering you could've got it for $28 more 4 Days Ago.

      • +1

I see you've played this game before.

This is only your first deal but your finger looks as if it's been through a lot of bargains.

  • Is this the one with LCD or not?

    • according to the link and website info, it does not have an LCD

      • -2

not really a bargain, the video quality is probably better from flagship smartphone

        • I sure as hell wouldn't use my flagship phone like I do with my GoPro that's for sure.

        • @smpantsonfire:
          Just use a Nokia 3320.
Similar footage quality to the original GOPRO

  • +1

It's the 2014 base model. Probably still okay for $99 but keep in mind that it's bottom of the barrel in the GoPro brand.

    https://www.cnet.com/au/products/gopro-hero/review/

    • And only supports upto a max of a 32GB Micro SD card which may be a bit limiting these days. And apparently the rechargeable battery only lasts for about 2 hour 30 mins before going flat.

Called Joondalup and Kingsway BigW stores in WA - they don't have any stock.

  • are they giving us the finger?

  • Better off spending $40 more and getting a chinese action camera like Thieye T5e or Hawkeye 7s

    • I need to buy a few cams for school (PE class). Ideally higher fps, good inside low light capabilities, burst mode, a heap of mounts, cheap. Anyone recommend anything? SJCam, Hawkeye etc?

      • Low light is tough with almost any action camera.

Youtube is the best place for actual footage, (albeit compressed).

But brands i'd recommend from my research are Thieye, Apeman, Hawkeye, Xiaomi Yi (though more expensive).

There are even videos where they have 4x cameras strapped together to show a side by side comparison, and from them I honestly think the Thieye looks better that the hero 5, the colours are much richer.

Give the kids homework to watch youtube and tell you what they think looks best :P

        • Cheers mate. Great idea all round. If they have ownership in researching them they might look after them.. Let's see what the kids come up with.

Also seen a few cameras with built in LED flashes. Seems obvious, but not many have them. Can't see a negative in a flash model (except battery life)?

  • +4

I find these original GOPROs are really handy of your trying to make your footage look like it was shot on a Nokia 3320.
Shame this Gopro hasnt got snake built in

  • I have an older Hero 2, which has some form of stabilisation and can do 1080p30.

have no current need for higher resolution or fps, but out of curiosity, is the OP's one better/worse/same-ish?

  • I bought about 6 of these for $39ea during the DSE closing down sale. Used one and realised it could only support 32GB cards, so I sold the rest and came to the realisation that I don't do enough to warrant one action camera, let alone 6. There were other limitations but I can't recall what they were, maybe something to do with the time lapse mode?

Also, if you break the mount you have essentially ruined the whole camera as this GoPro and the case are one piece.

  • Any reason to get this over the Yi action camera? https://www.amazon.com/YI-88001-Action-High-Resolution-Bluet…

    • No, Yi is far superior.

  • People also need to know the battery is not removable on this camera and camera does not come out of the case.
