    Thanks Infidel.

    Reported myself being dupe :)

    Have a nice day

Well being theearth - famous for posting so many great deals which I am appreciative of, I thought I'd suggest it was posted 8 days ago. A free delivery comment was added to that deal. Very unlike you to be late for a deal ;-)

    • Theearth is back! Welcome back mate

  • +1

Done, thanks op, will come in very useful.

  • +1

    Thanks OP -bought apple green

  • +2

    Thanks you so much op.
    Great deal👍

  • +8

    Well,

What's the advantage of this device?
Nothing special if compare to microwave.

    • +16

greater chance of food poisoning, wait, that's not an advantage, never mind, nothing to see here, these are not the droids you are looking for.

    • +15

Good for the anti-social office worker who can't stand human interaction in workplace common spaces. I believe you can also get matching colours in the Sunbeam Personal Waste Disposal Unit and the Sunbeam Staff Meeting Personal Oxygen Tent.

      • Also, just what your co-workers want, smelling your lunch warming up for 3-4 hours. Not many offices would like you using one of these either. A co-worker once brought a sandwich maker to his desk a tripped the fuse, impacting all those around him, he wasn't popular for doing it.

    • +1

Can you carry a microwave around with you?

  • +16

anyone who thinks this will be useful…its not. it takes AGES to "warm up" and the container is very small. u will use it once..if that, and never use it again

  • +12

    Are they really that useful?

"The Sunbeam GoLunch reheats cold meals to 75˚C in 2 hours, or frozen meals in 3.5 hours, allowing you to set it when you arrive to be ready for lunch".

Seems like Microwave is a better option…

    • +5

      Lol @ 2 hours.

If I was going to invest that kind of time, I'd rather use fresh ingredients in a slow pressure cooker

      • +2

Better off using the caveman method of creating fire to cook, much quicker.

    • Even the unbranded made in china is faster than this branded sunbeam.

  • +1

Wait in a "long" microwave queue for 5-10 minutes, or use this gizmo for your food to be cooked in just 2-3.5 hours!!
Pay the $8 if you value your time over your health, otherwise give it a miss.

Even then you might not be saving any time :)

  • Its like a slow cooker for the microwave, basically over heating the food can destroy nutrients so slow heating can help preserve that. Atleat thats what some people believe. I jist like the convenience of a microwave personally.

    • +8

Don't thinks so. It is not for cooking, it is for reheating the food that already been cooked.

    • +1

The "microwaves destroy nutrients more than other types of cooking" thing is a myth.

"The cooking method that best retains nutrients is one that cooks quickly, heats food for the shortest amount of time, and uses as little liquid as possible."

      https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/microwave-coo…

  • +21

Sounds like a food safety nightmare - hold your food close to 37º ideal for bacterial growth for about an hour as it very slowly warms up.
Most of the reviews at https://www.sunbeam.com.au/GoLunch.aspx read as fakes to me; all exactly the same tone, and re-using marketing keywords over and over.

    Shame Sunbeam, shame.

    • +3

Advertisement works for most of people here.

    • +1

Yep they all seem fake. This looks like a useless appliance to me.

      • +2

Perfect for most ozbargainers then. Will go well with all the other useless bargains that have been bought

    • Wow, yeah it's some of the worst fake reviews I've ever seen. Scripted nonsense. Definitely Sunbeam should be ashamed.

    • I agree - the only use I can see for this that would be safe is to keep already hot food, hot, while cooking other items. This would certainly fail in any food safety audit of any food preparation facility.

  • +8

    welcome back.

  • +5

I don't think this is a good idea. Slowly cooking yesterday left over food up to 75 celsius in a 3.5 hour period? Perfect scenario for bacteria grows up and food poisoning. It's cheap, but think before you buying. Also space is quiet small. I don't think your lunch box will fit in their.

  • +1

    Great little idea.
    Thanks OP!

  • +2

Will pass on this Petri dish LOL

  • +2

CAUTION: Buy first, think later doesn't apply to this deal.

  • +4

Can I buy two of them and put it under my desk to warm my feet?

    • +1

You can use it in wet weather to dry your shoe and shock

    • depends whether it will your feet? good idea for cold winter day though.

    • How small is your foot? Looks more like a egg warmer to me.

      • Great! I need to warm my balls

  • Ordered one, thanks.

  • +4

Why am I compelled to purchase this???? And why are there so many neg comments but no neg votes.

    • +6

because it's still a bargain. You can't neg a deal because you don't like the product.

      • The price is sweet but the application though.

      • Yes you can if you are a penis

  • +2

Can't believe there is a demand for this thing…

    • +1

Theres not, thats why it's so cheap and not even selling out at this price.

  • +1

That green looks like it would fit well in a 1980's sci-fi movie

  • +1

You could use this to maintain heat to stop your food from getting cold

  • These are cheap because they solve an problem that nobody has.

  • 2 hours to warm up! No thank you.

  • +3

94 votes but not one positive comment!

  • +2

A positive comment …. I have been using mine twice a day for about a week now and its great. Surprisingly I have not been struck down by any kind of illness and can confirm my meals are piping hot in 1 hour to 1 hour 15 mins when transferred cold (not frozen) from the fridge. Bought another one today with the free delivery.

    • Why do you use it instead of a microwave?

      • -4

Superior device for re-heating food. Gentle even heat throughout. No stop and stir just set and forget. Perfect temp. guaranteed.

        • +1

The Sunbeam shills have infiltrated OzBargain!

        • +1

@Meconium: lmao. Sounds so much like their generic reviews.

    • +2

Yes, and my great grandmother lived to 147 and smoked 17 packs a day and drank 18 bottles of whiskey an hour.

Science, you know actual science not anecdote, says that food gets contaminated sometimes by bacteria. Those bacteria can multiply rapidly in temps between say 20 degrees C and 40 - going from say a few thousand to many millions over a few hours. Sure, the temperature may kill them (or cause them to form protective shells) once it gets above 60 degrees or so but the heat will not remove any toxins they produce which can be lethal and these toxins may not effect the taste of the food at all.

As I said above NO commercial kitchen, hospital, or even food van would pass a government audit if it used these to warm cold food. I guess they are a good buy if you are hoping to sue Sunbeam after you get sick?

      • My guess is you are a millennial, raised in a shoe box full of cotton wool in a world of fear. Of course I may be wrong lol.

        • -1

Yep we are blindly living in a world full of propaganda in so called "free country"

      • +2

Hmm, not too sure. Food Standards recommends a maximum reheating time of two hours, which this contraption claims to do.

Ideally, you should aim to reheat food to 60°C within a maximum of two hours to minimise the amount of time that food is at temperatures that favour the growth of bacteria or formation of toxins.

        • +2

Sorry, I wrote several courses for hospitals on food safety and have done the audits at nursing homes and so on. This would definitely fail as it would keep the food in the 'danger zone' for too long to be considered safe especially when you consider that the precooked food going into this would also have been in that same 'danger zone' for prolonged periods whilst cooling after the original cooking unless it was rapidly chilled, something that domestic fridges / freezers don't do well. Microwaves are far better for heating in this regard because they heat rapidly, transitioning from the cold to hot with minimal time around body temperature. Simply stirring a few times during the reheat will eliminate cold spots.

This is not to say that you WILL get sick if you use this. It just would not meet commercial standards. Lot's of people still defrost meat at room temperature too but most don't get sick either.

  • got one, thanks!

  • +2

my workplace OHS would have a stroke if they saw this plugged in. They are test and tag nazis.

  • +5

Don't know what it is, but just bought it cuz it's on OzB lol

  • +3

I already grabbed a couple of these earlier this week not for reheating food though, for fondue and dipping strawberries in chocolate yum! I just noticed the 1 per customer limit, I bought 10 last week, for prezzies (again spruking it as fondue pot)

    • Finally i can justify my purchase

  • +1

    Three words, bacterial multiplication tables.

    • -5

      How about
      Adequate immune system
Man hasn't made it this far by living in a bubble

  • +2

Figured this probably isn't going to be a good idea for reheating food, does sound like it'd be more of a petri dish but could use it as a cheap water bath or brazillian sugaring/waxing warmer..

  • Whats the wattage on this thing? I mean if you use it at work you dont care but electricity is costly at home these days so just wanting to know.

  • -1

Well they got Ozbaragin quick so it's very popular, those complaining it's for reheating it is not what a microwave , this baby can do a lot of things that microwaves cannnot do.

also it doesn't destroy nutrients like a microwave also no more hard bits compared to it, very convenient product. you save time and don't need to fight in a que for the microwave, you set this up at work right before you start the shift and when your break starts it's perfectly ready, taste better to.
