Normally $34.95, they use Optus (predicting next question ;-)

          Pardon?

        • +2

Aww, don't mind montorola, it's just a bit of dyslexic outdated tech

        • Since you asked nicely, "again"

        • +2

          @Steptoe: Do you mean "that"?

I wonder if you can change to a smaller plan before the 1st month finishes…

    • +5

One of the best things about being with OVO is that we let you change your plan when things change in your world. If you find yourself needing more calling and/or data (or less) you can change to another OVO plan free of charge. If you want to change your plan we recommend that you do that just before your next recharge so that you don't lose any unused data or calling credit. To change your plan you'll need to get in touch with us over chat - this feature is coming soon on OVO.com.au.

    • +2

I would turn off auto recharge and then change plans. Assuming it's the usual deal you can upgrade/downgrade no problem (http://help.ovo.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/213535568-How-does-…). That was the main reason I chose Ovo originally (though I'm now using the Amaysim Groupon deal).

      Edit: Beaten to it…

  • +3

Should the sim card be activated by September 15 or just the promo to buy the sim card for $1 is until sept 15?

    • +2

The PROMO code is for first 5000 or 15th Sep, whatever comes first

      • So I can order now using the promo code then activate the sim card anytime?

        • Just ordered and spoke to them on chat. To register for the $1 deal, you must be one of the first 5000 customers to actually sign up for the deal.

This means you can buy now and activate before September 15.

      • same question, so I can order now using the promo code (as the first 5000) then activate the sim card anytime, but not necessary be the first 5000 person activating it?

      • Still not quite get it. If I order now but don't get activated until 15/9, but it has reached 5000 before 15/9, so am I still categorised eligible for the promo ? OR 5000 people has activated before 15/9, will I still be eligible ?
The bottom line is that we want to be assured that if we buy today and still under 5000 and not activated until the last day, we are still categorised as eligible. Can u please confirm ?

        • +1

I believe if the code is used 5000 times, the $1 sim offer will expire. That's how they track it.

        • I think that's right. Once you've got it in the mail (the sim). You can be sure of activation up to 15/9.

  • I think you can turn off auto recharge once you activate the SIM. I am not sure if you can go to PAYG or not. If not then I will just have to port the number out to another carrier.

I think they offer some unmetered sites/music if I am correct?

    • +1

correct but we would prefer you stay :)

      • +4

        Have you ever met Tightarse?

      • +6

Of course you would but you realise this has been posted this on Ozbargain right..? SIM sluts aplenty here…

        …and I won't lie. I am one of them.

        • +1

          SIM sluts

          Simulated sluts?

    • +3

https://ovo.com.au/play - more sports, entertainment and music constantly being added, and all data free !

  • +1

Is it possible to turn off auto recharge? I.e., can you just have 1 month for $1 and stop? What you need to do in order to turn the auto recharge off?

    • +8

yes after you activate you can turn of auto recharge

      • I have just activate, but cannot find out anything about the auto recharge in the website.

        2 Questions:
        - When will be the next auto-recharge?
        - How to turn off the auto-recharge? When will be latest date to turn off the auto-recharge before they charge you?

        Thanks.

        • +1

Turn it off now, go to your "dashboard", click on "active", then "change my info", uncheck auto recharge.

  • +4

how do they compare with yomojo ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

      • +19

i believe this is a simple question that everyone want to know before we buy.

So spend 5 mins of your time will save hours for the chat people to answer the exact same question again and again, cheers.

        • +12

60 days to activate the sim. Cheers

          @MattCEOatOVO:

          Great thanks MJ

        • +6

          Exactly.

I am waiting on webchat since past 28 mins now, still no agent.

        • +1

          @MELOZY: same here…

        • +2

          @MattCEOatOVO:
          Hi Matt
I just went through the CIS (https://content.ovo.com.au/ovo-docs/CIS_OVO_50_DV_4.0.pdf) and the Terms page here (https://ovo.com.au/legals-terms) and could not find any reference too 60 days activation.
I think you just made it up after being bombarded with questions …right?

        • @51ngh:
When I was on the phone, I ask whether there was a limit on activation and they said none. can someone else confirm?

        • +2

@51ngh: I guess he can, being the CEO?

        • @MattCEOatOVO:

When do you start counting the 60 days of activation limit? When I receive the Simcard or when I have paid for it?

        • @MattCEOatOVO:

at last. reading the thread it seemed chat staff contradicted that.
will get 2 for both of us and see how we go. thank you

        • @tkd8558: Webchat said 60 days from ordered/payment date.

        • @tkd8558:
So poss. 14/11 is last day to activate.

        • @MattCEOatOVO: Genuine question; activate from what time? The 15th of September or from the date of purchase?

        • @compound:
          60 days from payment date

        • @MattCEOatOVO:
          Hi Matt,

Regarding to the 60 days activation period, what would happen if I just not activating the card forever? I purchased the sim for a friend oversea, but he is not coming for a while. I am not concerning on the $1 refund, just wondering would I be charged continuously somehow?

          Regards,
          William

  • +3

What is the latest possible date to activate the SIM?

    • +3

60 days to activate the sim

    • 60 days to activate the SIM

  • +1

I heard that people could receive SMSs abroad without paying for the international pack. Is this true?

If it was a mistake could Ovo maintain that mistake?

  • +5

There was an error with your payment.

That's the message popping up at checkout.

    • +1

Same here. Webchat recommended using a different browser but no go.

    • +1

same with me . tried 5 times but charged 5 dollars already

    • +1

Same here, what a sh!t fight.

  • +9

    Some feedback on OVO:
Both my partner and I are on the $14.95/month pack, 1.5GB data. The website is a breeze to use, and we can top up data at $5/500MB increment if we ever need to. Reception is amazing and customer service, via live chat, is great too. Head to Product Review and I've never seen a Telco rated so highly.
I can personally vouch for OVO, great company, great product, great service, and at a good price too!
PS: Switched to them from the Vaya $18/month plan and I'm glad I made the move.

    • +1

I also moved to OVO a few months back, to the lowest plan. They've been pretty good, but I'm not totally sure about the reception. I've had a few problems, like dropouts and bad lines, that I'd never had before. It's pretty rare, but still a concern.

    • They both use Optus. What is so good about them. I rarely contacted Vaya and could chat quickly or call their helpdesk and got issues sorted sometimes very slow or sometimes quick.
Not with them anymore, but trying to see reason they are better over OVO other than the cost.

  • +1

Thanks OP, got 5! (jk) Was waiting for the next Kogan one after I lost one of the cards.

  • +4

There was an error with your payment.

But they charged $1 to my card.

    Help anyone?

    • Webchat

      • +6

Went on webchat and apparently bank declined the $1 charge twice. I have to speak to my bank. This is way too time consuming. For that reason, I'm out :)

        • +3

Don't worry … some other $1 deal might be around the corner !

          Edit:

For that reason, I'm out :)

watching too much Shark Tank :P

    • Same thing - webchat stuck on connecting! not a great start guys :D

    • Got the same issue and below is the info I got from their Webchat agent:

      Agent Aug 16, 2017, 10:32am
So one of those $1 payments are just a test payment done by the bank to ensure the card is valid. It will appear pending but will disappear in a few business days. The second payment is for the 8GB plan and should be going through without a problem - make sure there is at least $2 in the account though. If the payment is failing I would recommend trying on a different web browser or calling us on 13 56 86 to process that order :)

      Me Aug 16, 2017, 10:34am
Ok thanks. Just to clarify the second payment will it be $1 or normal price of $34.95?

      Agent Aug 16, 2017, 10:35am
      It will be $1

Let's see the outcome in a next few days

    • +1

Not to worry, they charge $1 plus the sim (which happen to be $1) so it look like double charge but not. I bought 9.95 earlier and i get $1 … plus $9.95 on my account the $1 just pending but wont process and just disappear after few days.

So to confirm from the title "Cancel Any Time" If you signed up for the first month, then cancelled, theres no ETCs?

    • +4

People want to reap all the benefits but want to be spoon fed at the same time.
Hardly ever want to lift a finger and click on the link OP has already provided.

All you have to do is clickety-click with your mouse …if you haven't got one, I can find a deal for you on OzB

      Information about the service
      https://content.ovo.com.au/ovo-docs/CIS_OVO_50_DV_4.0.pdf

      • Cancellation There is no minimum term contract so you can cancel whenever you want. If you do
cancel we don’t charge fees but we don’t refund you for your unused allowances or credit.

I was not asking for your reply, but the rep. Either way question answered.

        • +6

OP's already put the link in the description dude.
Obviously you didn't bother to read …..

Cut the CEO some slack …you don't want to scare him away with such mindless questions. We want him posting more deals ….

  • +1

An error with the payment, tried again and it shows the same thing. I check my bank account, got charged twice of $1…

    • I didn't get any error, but got charged twice as well.

I believe this is what happened.

First $1 charge is to actually pay for the SIM+service you bought.

Second $1 charge may be a pre-authorisation, which usually happens when you sign up to an ongoing payment thingy ….
This should go away in a few days, if not, I shall be opening a dispute with Ovo

      • -1

Confirmed with the Rep, will be charged $35.95 firstly, and refunded by $34.95 after 1 week.

        • +3

          Confirmed with rep? where?
          Stop spreading false information.
          I've been charged $1 and not $35.95

        • @51ngh:

I chatted online. It must be a fake Rep?

        • @JFSYD:
          Quite possibly !
          http://imgur.com/a/ByTqm
          2 x $1 charges

        • @51ngh:

See below comments, the Rep was not fake.

        • @JFSYD:

Yeah, just checked the comments. Your chat ain't there …
          Got a screenshot or something?

          Edit:
This is what probably happened with your order:

You paid for it without putting the code in(it was auto-populated in my order, but for some unkwown reasons it wasn't when you placed order)
You then got charged the full amount.
You then started a chat (probably on the website, with a chatbot or a customer service rep, not the Rep here) and demanded to be refunded $34.95
          They caved in.

        • @51ngh:

You are the "smartest" guy I ever seen in my life. A Chatbot? Lmao.

        • +1

@51ngh: But the code is entered automatically. (We don't need to type it in.)

  • No looking good in regards on customer service, web chat just does not exist.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks, all worked for me. Got charged X3 though. Even so, for $3 still a good deal if $2 doesnt get refunded. Maybe they will send 3 sim cards and ill have three months worth:)

  • Currently a customer of Optus. If I port over to this Ovo sim (and it's on the Optus network), when I choose to port back to Optus, am I considered a new customer or still an existing customer since it's all on the same network?

    • You'd be a "new" customer, though I've found that Optus keeps better track of you not actually being new when you come back and IIRC I missed out on some extra data once because of it. So depends on what you're looking for - it's not like Telstra and Boost where it's same network and same company, it's between a separate MVNO and Optus which should be no drama when porting.

  • +1

No special deals for your current customer base, why don't companies look after its existing customers?

    • They make more money?
