I haven't played a soccer sim since Premier Manager '99, man I sunk some hours into that game despite having zero interest in actual soccer. I took Peterborough United all the way from div 3 to the big league.

    • I haven't played a soccer sim since Premier Manager

      It says football, not soccer

Yet it clearly depicts a soccer field. I don't think footy video games are popular enough to make a simulation one, even AFL Live games don't sell that well.

I really enjoy this game. Play it every year when it comes out.

Give my regards to Etherington, Jellyman and Simon Davies…

Caution: If you plan on playing Football Manager for the first time, make sure you have people in your life to support you cause you will become an addict! :P

In reality it's a glorified spreadsheet but it's so in depth that once you start playing you won't notice the hours fly by. I only started playing FM since the 2011 version and I've been sinking 800 hours into each yearly release ever since.

The new yearly releases have started becoming a bit stale where they only release a few new upgrades/features so I'd probably say if you're planning on getting into FM, buy this FM17 and skip FM18 and get FM19 next year instead.

    • Came here for this sort of info!

Last one I played would've been '15 and haven't looked at the feature set of '18…Are there any features worth waiting for in '18?

      • Unfortunately they've headed towards moneygrabbing as they don't reveal much until about 2-3 weeks before release. Judging from the past few years, it won't be worth upgrading to FM18 from FM17.

    • I'm still playing 2001.
      To Madeira for the win!

  • Been playing since 99 when it was Champ Man. 2017 was the first year I didn't buy upon release… $15 seems to good to turn down.

    Cheers.

I've been playing since ~'02. The game is great. I put over 2000 hrs into FM12 (had a cruisy job ;) ) and 800 hrs into FM14….however the updates each year don't justify the price. The common thing is to buy the game every 2nd year so you benefit from significant changes. Also, '17 is probably reduced because '18 comes out shortly.
