    Thanks Bought P9. Awesome price.

  • great prices

  • When I go to that link it says the Huawei P9 is $442.00, not $398 - What am i missing ?

      What am i missing

      Reading the post lol

      • D'oh - gotcha !

Re "Optus branded and unlocked" - does this mean it's got an Optus logo (or something) but can be used on any network ?

        TIA

        • +1

There may be a startup logo and a few preinstalled network apps, but it's unlocked and will work fine on any network.

I have been using the P9 for 9 months and also a S7 for 1 year. I highly suggest people getting a S7 rather than P9 if video/photo shootings is important. It focuses much faster at video shooting especially.

P9 is always out of focus if the object keeps moving during video shooting and basically hopeless at low light environment for photo.

Having said that, I am just a noob at these things who can only use the point and shoot function.

    • Thanks, I am looking at both of these and suspected as much.

    • +2

A significant difference in price between this AU P9 and an AU S7.

    • +2

My s7 has a really shitty battery

    • Second this comment. S7 has one of the fastest AF of any smartphone camera. Worth the money if you need to shoot fast moving people or objects.

    • Have also been using a P9 Plus for nearly a year (camera is identical to the P9), but I've found the camera to produce excellent images. In saying that i rarely use Auto for happy snaps, and generally prefer playing around with settings in Pro (manual) mode.
Video I can't comment on because I can't recall ever using it. But I bought this phone purely for the camera, and have absolutely no regrets. Phone itself is snappy, and after chucking Nova on it and getting used to little quirks/settings, I can highly recommend it, especially for this price.

  • Can gst be claimed while travelling on this stock?

I keep on seeing this phone get compared to the S7 but isn't the price point of each phone so far apart? I am looking for a new phone at around the $400 and this phone seem good though I would love to hear any recommendation on others around the $400 mark with Australian warranty. Thanks

    • Nokia 6, Moto G5 plus.

Isnt the V20 at this price point a better option?

    • +3

Yep. I replaced my P9 with a V20 and never once regretted it.

    • Hi, thanks for your reply, just looked up the V20 and yes price is kind of close to the $400 but couldn't find anything with Australian warranty and with the LG loopback issues which I have experience with, I ain't getting anything LG with grey import warranty.

I had a P9 for 6 months as a replacement for my G4, it was decent but the software has real issues especially aggressive battery management, kills ALL apps in background including system apps.

Like the best example I have is alarms not going off because the phone decided to kill the process. I woke up late a couple of times cause of that. That's using the stock clock app. Same effect for other alarm apps. I had to make sure I used sleep tracking in Sleep for Android to ensure my alarm went off and even then, it didn't once. Battery was decent at first but went downhill in the 6 months i had it, disappointing even with the aggressive app killing. The build quality is great though. Very nice and well built phone. Feels very premium.

The phone was pretty snappy though.

    • you probably have selected no apps to remain on with auto kill. you can decide which apps you want to stay on even when auto kill takes place.

i never had that problem with alarms.

      • Nope. I made sure important apps were selected to ignore battery optimizations.
Still had alarms not go off.

Even timers with the stock clock app got killed.

        • Can't the auto kill be disabled?

        • i checked mine, clock is not present in the kill list at all.

another reason you might be that you selected PM instead of AM.

        • @Jackal: not totally.

        • @yummycoot:

i checked mine, clock is not present in the kill list at all.

Nah, the system clock can definitely be auto-killed.

Eg (and this happened almost every time I used it), set a timer in the system clock app. Lock the phone / switch to another app. After about 4-5 minutes, the phone will have completely forgotten that there was a timer set at all.

another reason you might be that you selected PM instead of AM.

Nope, the alarm app I used is set to go off the same time every single day. The only way I could almost guarantee the app wouldn't be killed was to use the sleep tracking, which must have kept it as the active app and not let the phone kill it.

        • @theguyrules: just use the system clock, i had no issues with it and i set up like 5 or 6 alarms.

        • +1

          @yummycoot: I have m8.
The system clock had just as many issues and no way to stop it from being killed.

        • @theguyrules: are you using any other cleaner apps?

        • +1

@yummycoot: nope. I guess the issues were specific to me though.

    • +2

I've been using the P9 since January and have had nil issues with any apps closing, especially Alarm! Love the phone. Amazing photos from the dual-lens cameras. All my friends and relatives with iPhones keep admiring the photos I take at gatherings and special events. I can keep changing the look of the phone with so many free themes around. Highly recommend this phone.

  • The tech spec says no 700 mhz, therefore no Band 28. Is that right? This Aussie stock phone not fully compatible?

Also, is there a Nougat upgrade available?

    • Probably coz it's for Optus.

  • Hi OP - is this the cheapest the Ip7 has been ? Im after IP7 128gb for my mum - should I wait till after release of new iphone?

    • +2

Yes, definately wait for the new iphone to be released then the ip7 will be discounted more. Unless you need it now then this is a good price

    Any P10 deals?

  • Just a heads up, Huawei have the worst Android skin I've used. It looks like a knock off iPhone including the lack of an Apps menu and Apple-like icons, and by default it refuses to keep any app running in the background making multitasking an issue unless you go through and allow every single app to do so.

And judging by my experience with a P8 Lite, updates never come to the Australian variants despite being released elsewhere (European P8 Lite got Android 6.0, Australian ones are stuck on 5.0, not even 5.1)

    • if it gets android 7 the android skin is fixed. However, optus have not pushed through the update and don't have it on their list. Other unbranded p9's in australia have gotten the update.

  • Also no nfc. No android pay =(

    • In P9, i have NFC, not sure about Android Pay as I dont use it.

      • +1

It has Android pay which I use a lot

    • Different models will have varying specs, best to double check before buying if you require NFC/dual SIM/more RAM etc.

  • FYI: Optus branded phones are trapped on android 6 at the moment. No current plans to get it up to 7. Other unbranded phones have gotten the update, so maybe it is a matter of time, or maybe never.

I have this phone, it is good, but annoying it's stuck on 6.

One thing I will say that i didn't see anyone else mention, is that it supports fast charging, but not on the plug that is in the box. The plug in the box is a standard charger and it takes about 2hrs to charge from 1-100%. I bought a fast charger and it's so much better, takes about half the time to charge it. That's a worthwhile investment if you're keeping it for a long time. The only AU plug one I could find was here https://www.mobile-mate.com.au/viewItem.html?maker=12103&iteā€¦ —- expensive, but actual AU plug etc, and definitely works. You can try your hand at ebay or aliexpress, but hard to know if they're genuine, and they were 20-30$ delivered anyway.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Any idea we can manually upgrade?

      • there's guides online, but it involves reflashing etc and no doubt voiding warranty… too much for me :)

  • Too late for this deal, but the p9 i bought on this deal (Thanks to the OP) updated to android 7 last week.
