Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

(Sorry for basically reposting this, but it was just a comment on another topic)

Is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 phone any good?

I punched in my requirements in GSMARENA and this one came up.

Decent battery, reasonable specs, gyro, compass etc.

And it seems cheap as!

Is there any reason why I shouldn't give this one a go?

And I do need a decent solid case. Perhaps even life proof.

I'm using a Sony Xperia XA but it's just not good enough. Plus its got data dropout issues.

Cheers

I've had the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3 and the Redmi 3. Bought my sister the Mi 5s.
I've been a fan of them but don't use them anymore due to the lack of B28 in them. My sister is enjoying hers though.

The Redmi Note 2 I still have and it still works.
The Redmi Note 3, I drowned when I rode my motorbike in the rain whilst overseas
The Redmi 3, I bought as it was all I could find on quick notice whilst overseas from a Bricks and Mortar store that was also affordable and good bang-for-buck. It is now dead after my wife dropped it on that special corner which causes screen shatters.

  • probably, SD625 is pretty good processor, great value phone

    MODs, you suck.
I'm not affiliated with gearbest, it was just a coupon that popped up so I posted it for the OP.
Completely selfless move on my part. You could've edit the discount code or link if you really didn't want the OP to get the discount.

So I will post my previous post again:
The Note 4 is good but the QSD 625 chip is slow.
Sure its cheap, and great on battery life but you should be making the leap to higher performance now.
    At the least:
    Helio X20 (worst)
    QSD 650

    Helio X25
    QSD 652
    QSD 653
    Exynos 7420

    QSD 660
    QSD 820
    Exynos 8890
    Kirin 960
    QSD 821
    Helio X30

    Exynos 8895
    QSD 835 (best)

      • Ok. I typed my comment and went to see some specs of it (band28), when it just popped up on my screen with a discount code. So I edited the comment to put the code in for the OP in case they wanted it.

    • Is the Asus Zenfone 3 with the Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 any good?

is there decent cases available for these?

  • Screen breaks easily - broke it twice in first two weeks even with a case on (a good case was hard to find quicky, an of course, it breaks in the first couple of weeks)

  • OK, so what should I be looking at that has a better processor, screen and B28?

Not keen on the latest Samsungs due to cost, and even though I've liked every Sony device (except the XA) I've owned, I just don't like the new curved edge.

I like the look of the Asus phones, and I did own a Moto G4 Plus for a short time and liked it but it didn't have compass so back it went.

    • See if you can get a ZTE Axon 7 for cheap/used.
      I'm thinking try $400-$500 range.

It's got Band 28, solid device, a decent community, and QSD 820 processor.

  • I've got the Redmi note 4 and its a fantastic phone for the money. As mentioned above though the admittedly attractive design does leave the screen vulnerable if dropped so get a protective case. I found this out the hard way when I dropped the previous one I had. The redmi note 3 doesn't look as good but has a more durable design and performance wise is very similar.

The RN4 is an absolute steal for the price.

Not having band 28 has never been a problem for me.

Thanks for all this great info so far, hope you don't mind me jumping in and asking a couple questions as well. It's hard for me to get my head around exactly which version to go for - but I've decided to go Redmi Note 4x 64GB (most likely helios x20). I guess my questions are:

    • Will I have equivalent (or preferably better) performance, coming from a Galaxy S5?
    • If I don't get an explicit 'International version', will I need to perform a flash or anything serious to get Google Play and android apps on there?
    • Anyone (like Kangal's nice offer above) have a code for a particular seller, or a recommended Seller?

I think i'm across the rest of the specs and band issues, so anyone that can spell these questions out plainly for this tech dummy would really be appreciated. Cheers everyone!

  • When I compared the RN4 to the 4X, The 4X seemed to be reduced in something so I moved on. Did I miss something?
