Need Help Buying a Samsung S5 or Similar

Hi all,

I need to buy a new cheapish mobile phone for son. Needs to be able to play Pokemon Go, good camera, internet browsing etc.

There are quite a few listed on Ebay from overseas sellers, but don't want to get caught with a fake.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

There are plenty of suggestions in the polls, actually. Each belonging in it's price bracket
    Budget

    Mid range

Currently the Moto G5 is leading the pack, as the most preferred mid-end smartphone. Xiaomi Mi5 comes second.
For even lower budgets, try the Redmi Note 4x and Redmi 4x

The LG V20 is also another very high-spec phone that somehow has a very low price tag, probably because of LG's earlier failures with the LG G5 series which have known to bootloop. That being said, you should not buy an LG G4, G5 or LG Nexus series.

I have a Samsung S5. My 13 year son has a $200 Xiaomi Note 4 which he loves and which poos all over the Samsung

    • Listen to this guy, OP. S5 is very average - and definitely won't handle Pokemon Go anywhere near as well as the Xiaomi.

      • My s5 handles the poke a go easily. Come on seriously i can play world of tanks as well which is more demanding.

        • I handle a lot of them at work and they are very unimpressive, in my opinion. The camera is absolutely awful, too.

        • @ThithLord:

If you want the best low light then get an nokia 808…. that simply cant be beat or shy away from a camera phone and get a point clicky.

        • @Hotkolbas: Lol thanks for the suggestion - I'm just replying to the OP. Not currently looking for a phone.

S5 has the worst low light camera, pictures come out grainy and pixelated.

  • I've used iammobile dot com dot au. Purchased a Tesltra branded phone Samsung S5 listed as near new - and it was pretty much new. Sent the phone overseas but so far, battery is fine, works like a charm and was in great nick.

They are Australian based - so you should be covered by ACL.

Only challenge is when they have stock - if they do - then jump on it ASAP. Otherwise, it seems to disappear quite quickly.

  • S5 is a great handset for what you get plus the bonus of ip rating and removable battery.

Also like me i have a zerolemon battery and get a fair few days out of the battery.

I would look for the model G900i

    Which covers all bases.

  • The LG V20 is now on sale for just $421.
