Poll: Best Android Flagship Phones for 2017

Moderators at OzBargain have decided to run yearly polls to decide the best products in popular categories that get asked repeatedly in the forum. Our aim is to have a central thread where users can vote on the items, suggest options and also change their vote throughout the year. The polls will end once the year is over.

Question

What is your favourite flagship Android Phone for the year 2017?

Flagship meaning: The best all-around device a company has to offer, usually the most top-shelf product with the latest technologies and the most marketing.

To make the number of choices more manageable, we’ve split the questions into three separate polls — one for each price bracket and tier (consisting of "Budget", "Mid-end" and "Flagship"). Also we recognise some devices may not strictly belong in a certain category because phone prices continually change throughout the year and might exist in more than 1 poll.

Tips:
Found a phone you liked? You can click on an item in the 'Related Products' section to view current or active deals, and see forum discussions related to it.

  • Don't see a phone that you like in the poll options? Make a (sensible) suggestion and we'll add it to the list.
  • You are allowed to change your vote!

How to Suggest a Poll option? Simply type into the textbox above your Comment box and then submit your comment.

  • One Plus 5 is the newer flagship

  • I personally have the S8+ and it's great, but for me it would be a toss up between the Huawei P10+ and the S8+. Can't decide, they're both pretty good from what I've seen.

  • Why is the S7 in this list? Are we back in time?

    • we won't strictly limit poll choices to phones released in 2017. In a lot of reviews and round-ups (on tech sites), current phones are often compared to previous flagship mobile phones from the previous year, which are still widely available and still being supported. In the S7's case it got featured a lot lately

  • Got the s8+ and loving it, had the Sony z5 previously, and z3 and z1. Samsung has made the android experience much better, had a Samsung G3 -and hated touchwiz, had a look at the Sony Xperia premium and it looked good too

  • You should've waited for the v30 before releasing this poll.

  • I would vote equal S8+ and G6 but I can only vote for one……so I voted S8+

I would go for LG G6, they are pretty underrated!

    • Have they finally fixed bootloop issues with this model?

    • It's a pity they stuck a SD821 in there while most of the other major 2017 flagships use SD835.

    Suggested Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The Note series returns with a big bang (but not the explosive incendiary kind)

It features a GIGANTIC 6.3 inch display, IP68 for water- and dust-resistance, and there's a microSD slot to supplement the built-in 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage. There's Samsung's first dual camera that features twin 12 megapixel cameras (one with telephoto lens). You'll also get AKG earbuds and 3.5mm jack.

under the hood, it has Snapdragon 835 (or some equivalent Exynos CPU) with 6GB of RAM. Battery is smaller at 3,300mAh.

https://t.co/v35UsHM4ec - Verge Editor’s Choice Phone goes to HTC U11.

    Fantastic phone, well underrated!

    • I agree completely!! It's amazing, but so underrated?!
Looking forward to getting one in a few months :D the M8 is a great phone, but it's kinda getting old now so I'm needing an upgrade :)

  • iPhone X? The smartphone that I won't buy nor can afford, but just the option out there to be part of the poll. Judging from the analytics of OzBargain traffic, iPhone users are actually the silent majority.

    • Isn't it a poll on Android flagship phones? 😉

      • Hah. I can't read. Only saw the flagship part.

        • Or should we delete the word Android from the title? 😉

        • @O O: never mind. I was just interested in seeing how iPhone would compete with other Android flagships in a poll (rather than just from stats).

        • @scotty: Android'll win overwhelmingly in Android phones poll, see! 😁

  • Suggested Google Pixel 2 XL

    Lifehacker says:

    https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2017/10/everything-google-anno…

The new smartphone from Google runs pure Android Oreo and, supposedly, has the best smartphone camera ever made. The Pixel 2 design is slightly different from the original, with smaller bezels, a streamlined body, and a glass panel on the back where the camera lives. The headphone jack is also gone.

Google talked up the new and improved camera a lot, which is fitting since the camera on the original Pixel received such rave reviews, as well as lots of enthusiastic marketing on Google's part. This time around you get the same resolution from a 12-megapixel sensor, but you also get a portrait mode that looks a lot like what Apple offers on the iPhone 8 Plus. Instead of requiring a second lens, however, Google creates that hot bokeh effect with software. Portrait mode also works on the front-facing camera.

    • I think you probably mean Google Pixel 2 XL (6" slim bezel phone made by LG, RRP $1,399 for 64GB). Pixel 2 (the 5" phone made by HTC, RRP $1,079 for 64GB) is not much different from Pixel last year. Interestingly there's no discussion on Pixel 2 XL here.

  • Feel like Nokia 8 should make this list now. I've got my eyes all over it!

  • Please add Nokia 8

  • Suggested Nokia 8

@drprox & @immu999 — you need to put Nokia 8 in the suggestion box. Here's the full spec (from GSMArena)

    • 5.3" 1440 x 2560 IPS
    • Qualcomm SD 835
    • 4GB RAM + 64GB flash, or 6GB RAM + 128GB flash
    • Dual 13MP rear camera
    • Has Band 28
  • Suggested LG V30

LG V30 — suggested by Wonderfool previously before it was even released. No deal on OzBargain yet, but from this poll many voted LG V30 over Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+. Instead of G6, this is the true flagship from LG in 2017.

    Spec from GSMArena:

    • 6" 1440 x 2880 P-OLED
    • Qualcomm SD 635
    • 4GB RAM. 64GB or 128GB flash
    • 16MP + 13MP primary camera
    • Very, very underrated flagship smartphone for 2017 let down by LG software.

  • I was interested in the Pixel 2 XL, but I'm seeing reviews showing the screen turn blueish at even slight angles which has turned me off. I hear it's largely based off the V30 which I was also looking at, but also suffers from the blueish off angle effect (as I'm sure it's the same panel). It's a minor gripe, but when you're paying flagship Australian prices I don't expect things like this. The previous Pixel didn't have this issue.

Longtime iPhone user btw, but the 8 is boring, and the X is hugely overpriced so I'm looking at Android now.

    • Standard Pixel 2? It's not the sexiest phone but guts of it same as XL and doesn't seem to have as many issues as XL

      • Hmm yeah, I would've been interested in it if it had the same design as the XL. The bezels are just ridiculous. I just can't deal with the phone being so big (i'm used to an iphone 6 size phone), with no real screen size benefits .. But If I ever get to see one in real life maybe it'll change my mind. I REALLY wanted the Pixel 2 to finally win me over from Apple land.

  • Suggested Huawei Mate 10

    Huawei Mate 10

  • Suggested Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

    Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Another Chinese brand but looks promising.

  • Suggested OnePlus 5T

    Due out in November
