Rhino Car Hire - 5% discount for 7 days

30

Rhinocarhire.com won the "Best Car Hire Website 2010" award at the Travolution Awards in London. They've sent an email to customers, to say thanks to them (and their friends and family), and they're offering a 5% discount for bookings made in the next 7 days.

I used them to book car hire in Austria and the USA earlier this year and found they were already much cheaper than going directly through the car hire companies so can definitely recommend them from personal experience. I had no problems whatsoever and would happily use them again. A further 5% discount would be a bonus on top.

  • Sounds good. Are they sort of an intermediary for the major car hire companies? What about CDW insurance? Do you still have to deal directly with the car hire firms on that?

Yes, they can book cars at multiple companies. If you're tricky, you can work out which company you're going to be hiring from (depending on the number of companies in the area) and then go compare against the car company in that area. When I booked a convertible in Orlando, I changed the area within the city a couple of times and was able to work out that if I selected a specific area, I'd be hiring from a specific Alamo (no other car rental places were in that zone). I then went to the Alamo website and compared the price - Rhino was ~30% cheaper than hiring direct.

I believe you still need to pay CDW with the car rental company. I had personal international travel insurance anyway, and car rental damage was covered within that so I didn't need to worry about car rental insurance as well. In Austria, the car rental staff asked if I wanted to decrease my excess in the event of an accident, but in the USA they did not ask.

    • I should note that I also compared quotes from Rhino with quotes direct from the company websites using coupon codes from RetailMeNot. Sometimes Rhino was cheaper, sometimes the coupon codes were cheaper, so it still pays to shop around a little.
