I will need to move with my family after two months from Melbourne to Dubbo.
Air flights are too expensive I want to travel by bus.
I need to rent a 12 seater from Melbourne and drop it off at Dubbo, NSW.
Most companies insist you have to return the car to the same place you picked it from and this is not possible in my case. Other companies have quoted me as high at 2k. (can you believe it!!)
What would be the best and cheapest option?
Your opinion is really appreciated as I'm desperately in the dark.

Also, a 12 seater might not suffice to move Melbourne. The amount of trips you will have to make may not be economical. I think airfare is your best option.
Wouldn't the extra luggage fees rule that out?
HA ! gold
I think it's Pj228 answering his own question. Just a theory
Do you have a car that can tow a trailer?
It might be cheaper driving up with a U-Haul type trailer. You can rent those one-way. There's different sizes too. https://www.trailerrentals.com.au/k/one-way-trailer-hireHow are you planning to move around Dubbo? Walk?
Are you moving 12 people or are you getting a 12 seater to allow for extra room?
I can certainly believe a rental car company would charge you $2K + for a one way rental to a small town in the middle of nowhere.
They are going to have to pay someone more to drive it back to Melbourne or Sydney…
Why are you moving?. It's a rather strange place to move to from Melbourne…?
Get an UberXL. Cheaper than the bus. App says between $1200-1700 :D
Do you have a permit to move Melbourne to Dubbo? And where will you place it, below or above Dubbo?
