  • How would this work for a complete off-grid solution? like on a country block of land (outskirts of Sydney).

    • +3

      Short answer: it wouldn't.

Unless you only want power during daylight hours, off-grid requires batteries - which are a major cost on their own. And a standard grid-tie inverter like this one won't work at all in an off-grid scenario - instead you need a charge controller to connect your solar panels to batteries, plus a different type of inverter to "create" AC power from your batteries to run your house.

    • +1

5kW is a bit small for a completely off-grid solution, unless you have very low power usage like a small holiday home. Keep in mind you'd have to add a battery bank, some switching gear and possibly a secondary source of power in case of extended periods of cloud cover. However first check the quality/suitability of the panels + inverter - price seems to indicate it's not the greatest

Generally off-grid systems are only economically viable where connection costs are very high.

Click on the "ORDER NOW" button and get a 404 error not looking good for your website.

    • Hi, Sorry for the error. This was a result of some changes on our website

  • Hmm. Have to ask for a quote before we can see any details about the panels or inverter…

    • The panels on this offer is Seraphim which is a Tier 1 panel and Zeversolar inverter

  • My old 1.5kw unit broke, trying to replace with a new unit.
Comparing quotes is tough, most don't Specify if "fully Installed" means on the roof installed or actually connected to the meter.
This seems to be the average going rate, but without knowing the parts can't tell if it is value.
Will apply for a quote and see.

    • This price is fully installed … metering charges would be separate

      • Proved my point, why can someone not provide.a true fully installed price.
What good is a fully installed system not connected

I'd love to get a solar system but my neighbour has a huge gum tree shading my roof.

Do you guys provide a tree poisoning service?

    • Sorry .. we do not offer any such service

    • +1

      Option 1:
Use vinegar to poison it yourself
      Option 2:
      Raise your roof
      Option 3:
Raise the panels with longer posts
      Option 4:
      Use mirror to redirect sunlight
      Option 5:
      Just forget about solar

    • That's better than having someone knock on your door and rip you off your money and then vanish :)

  • I never had solar panels installed, how long is the lifespan of these things?
That's crucial info to calculate ROI

    • Generally good quality panels have a 25 year performance warranty (>80% output) and a 10 year product warranty. Inverters have a 5 year warranty. I installed my system ~5 years ago and output is as good as the day it was installed. Thanks to the QLD rebate scheme my system is now fully paid off and I'm actually making a profit off it.

    • It depends on the manufacturer. Better quality panels and inverters will always have better warranty conditions.

Here's a link to a LG brochure. 10 year panel warranty, 25 year output warranty, and it's transferable so even if you sell your property the new owners are covered.

My first two bills have seen reductions greater than $200 since adding solar. I'll basically be square after roughly 5 years at today's prices. Given power prices are only going to go up the length of time to a ROI grows ever shorter.

    • 25 yrs warranty on the panels and 5 on the inverter

  • +3

A 5.83kw system for $3750 certainly means there's compromises. If you want LG mono or neon panels and a dual phase or multi inverter setup (the only way to take advantage of large arrays of panels) you're looking at closer to $6500 and that will just get you over the 5kw total size mark.

I'll stop short of saying it's not a deal but unless they're willing to provide information on the inverter and panels included with the deal, and guarantee the install quality before you even engage with them (as reputable dealers will do) I would avoid engaging them for your solar needs.

Note: Their website lists Canadian Solar, Jinko, LG, and Seraphim panels and ABB, Fronius, SolaX, and SMA inverters. A good mix of budget and high end gear but still no guarantee that you'll see any of it installed as part of this deal.

    • I was looking to install Solar but the vast array of products really did my head in, as did the shifty answers that were being provided. That plus the fact our power bill seems to be circa $200 or below put the nail in that coffin.

Will be looking at it again once we stop renting and move to a place of our own, now with rugrats definitely will cost more haha.

      • Rugrats was the catalyst for going solar for my house. It's amazing what having children does to your power bills.

Things change over time but as of right now the top tier for panels is easily LG. Canadian Solar is middle of the road and Jinko sits at the budget end. For inverters I really do recommend you don't skimp and get a Fronius or SMA. For what it's worth my preference is Fronius. They're incredibly well made (also backed by a 10 year warranty at the time I made the purchase) and have an excellent suite of features e.g. built in wifi, OTA updates, monitoring etc.

Go with a reputable installer. Cowboys are bad news for anything involving your roof. Whirlpool is a good resource for finding who the reputable installers are for your state.

    • The offer here is for seraphim panels and zever inverter.. call us for a detailed quote

  • State what you are selling! What panels what inverter?

    • NSW and we are selling Seraphim panels and Zever

Valid til Friday is rubbish. It's the oldest trick in the book to instill a sense of fear that a customer might miss a discount. If they want your custom they'll extend that no problems. If they don't, go elsewhere.

Reading a few reviews of the BYD panels suggests they're middle to lower end in terms of efficiency. Tier 1 is not a guarantee of quality but that the panel production is not outsourced.

Solax inverters appear to be relatively new to market. It could be a lower price because they're trying to establish themselves or because they're cheap (and possibly nasty). The thousand dollar difference between a Solax and SMA inverter says a lot.

Edit: I tried to send you a message about this but you're not accepting (might be a setting in your account).

  • Just remember that the warranty doesn't mean much if the company isn't around when you go to claim.

  • +1

Perhaps some caution here. Company registered only very recently, a reverse image lookup on the only photos from the three glowing Google reviewers shows the photos have been lifted from the interwebs. Facebook history starts May 2017. Pricing for tier 1 panels seems very low.

If it is too good to be true …

  • So I was told that solar companies require customers to sign over their solar credits from the government, which equate to the entire cost of the install? Are solar companies making 100% profit?
