Possible that may have been due to Prime day tech deals?
Yea it was prime day deal.
Awesome price, paid $470AUD for mine
Bonus offer: comes with free fullstops and commas.
here ya go, .,.,.,.,.,., keep the change.
Apologies for being dyslexic
What is this? Just curious (not a buyer).
Ryzen is the new CPU family from AMD. There is a lot of justified hype around them as they are light years ahead of their old CPUs and their cost/performance puts them ahead of intel for the first time in over a decade. Basically, it's been Intel's world for at least 10 years but now all of a sudden a legit competitor is here and it's awesome.
Ryzen is a fantastic system from the top of the line Threadripper down to the just announced Ryzen 3 chips.
Ryzen Threadripper = if you need a Threadripper system, you don't need my advice
Ryzen 7 = high-end systems for content creators and streamers
Ryzen 5 = Gamers and mid high-end systems
Ryzen 3 = Average consumer systemsThanks. Got it. How would be the performance compared to mac pro?
A Ryzen 7 system with a Nvidia 1080 and 8GB of memory would be cheaper than a Mac Pro and would blow the Mac Pro away. The Mac Pro is very very old now. You could get an 8 core 16 thread cpu would be a multi threaded powerhouse.
This system below is a Ryzen 7 1800x with a 1080ti with 11GB GPU memory and 64GB RAM.
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/tzvHgLIt's still over $1000 cheaper than the Mac Pro and the Ryzen benchmarks around 50% faster and the 1080ti benchmarks about 370% faster than the D500 in the Mac Pro.
So yeah - it's cheaper and just way way faster.
@bunnybash: Thanks mate, sound like you have a good knowledge of this stuff. I was never into windows/desktop since 2010. I have always had a MacBook and loved it. For gaming, I used to have the PlayStation 3. However, I am planning to build my work desk (for editing mostly, not playing any games on it) as I am considering on becoming a Youtube content creator. Would you mind suggesting me a killer setup on a budget?
Here is a budget system: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/QFQjxY
I'm not sure if you need a case or keyboard/monitor/etc
But the mobo/cpu/gpu etc in there are actually all more powerful than a mac pro and the total cost is $1600
edit: At the moment is one of the worst times in history to actually purchase a graphics card. There has been a huge run on them due to crypto currency mining which has inflated the prices. Also AMD is about to release their VEGA platform for consumers within the next two weeks which should force down the prices of graphics cards again.
If you're looking to buy a GPU - don't. Just wait 2 -4 weeks and your wallet will thank you.
@bunnybash: Okay maybe I will try editing on my Mac. The thing is my mac starts acting like a jet engine, as soon as I start editing. At this stage, anything over $1k is quite not possible (even that would leave me on Ramen noodle diet XD). Anyway, thanks for your input, I will bookmark it.
C'mon keyur.
Ryzen 1600 link is incorrect, goes to 1800
Thanks nice pickup
Combine this Ryzen 1600 with the Nvidia 1070 deal and you're on your way to a great gaming system. Of course to buy a GPU this close to the Vega launch is crazy. I am feeling the itch to get on the Ryzen bandwagon, it's been so so long since I had an AMD system that this might be what I need to tip me over the edge.
Looking at buying a new mobo and cpu, already have a gtx 1070. Which Ryzen should I buy AND what's the difference between 1600 and 1600x? Is it worth $20?
Thanks man!
Only difference is the base clock and turbo; They're both the same in the sense they are hex cores with unlocked multipliers.
So basically if you don't OC, get a 1600X; If you want to OC, save a few dollars and get a 1600.
Thanks Dread :) I don't overcloack so I'll save a few bucks.
Is it worth getting a 1700 instead of a 1600?@Michael15286: if your not going to over clock you actually want the 1600x and its faster before overclocking
1600x doesn't come with a stock cooler while the 1600 comes with the Wraith Spire cooler so he'll need to factor that into consideration as well
@macgregors: Yeah was going say myself the 1600x is what'd you'd aim for, due to the higher base clock.
As far as no cooler; Apparently they all come with a cooler, X get Wraith Max whilst non-X get Wraith Spire.
But even that diverts, with two different SKU's for each that come with/without the cooler.
MPK at the end means it has a cooler.
WOF at the end means CPU only.
As far as no cooler; Apparently they all come with a cooler, X get Wraith Max whilst non-X get Wraith Spire.
I believe that is for Ryzen 7
Just wanted to say, the 1600 are generally not as good as the 1600X in terms of overclocking aswell.
They are not aswell binned so you would generally only reach maximum of about 3.6-3.8 ghz overclock at reasonable voltages whereas its easier to hit 4ghz+ with 1600x.
Same for the 1700 vs 1700x/1800x.
I bought a couple and none of my 1600s can hit 4ghz < 1.45v.
One is a little gem that can do 3.9 ghz @ 1.33v, 3.975 @ 1.375v but wouldn't do 4ghz until 1.475v.Don't forget the 1600X is a 95W chip vs the 65W 1600. Meaning more headroom for overclocking (and faster Turbo). But also meaning it'll run a bit hotter (Hence the Spire not being included as it isn't strong enough to cool a 95W part acceptably) and use more power out of the box.
But it's faster :) and it will be a a higher binned chip (1800X with disabled cores rather than 1700 part).
I have the 1600X in my new machine and have been pretty happy with it so far (apart from not being able to boot with my RAM speed above stock).
Thanks macgregors, my computer is starting to show its age and Ryzen has caught my interest.
Does anyone have recommendations for a motherboard to go along with the 1700?Asus Prime B350 or the MSI equivalent. Generally the B350 chipset offers enough of what most people want/need.
Only time I'd see an X370 warrant is if you want 2-way SLI…
Some of the board partners also reserve stuff like extra m.2 ports and usb-c/usb3.1 Gen 2 for x370 as a means of upselling.
I got the Asrock AB350 Fatal1ty, good price for features. OC'ed the 1600 to 3600Mhz stable while undervolting by 50mV to keep it cool.
For RAM, I managed to OC the Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3000MHz from 3200MHz… Note that Ryzen RAM overclocking is still really finicky. However it's been shown that fast RAM matters for Ryzen's performance as it is directly tied to the speed of AMD's infinity fabric (the magical connection between the cores):

DDR4 RAM price is unfortunately going through the roof atm.
How does warranty works with Amazon ? Says something happens and one needs to send it away, who will pay for the postage ?
also curious about this
$50 odd is a reasonable discount vs MSY but not if I am forgoing warrenty
Any recommendations for compatible DDR RAM?
Then OP should use those URL in that article …
Not sure why this post is getting negged, buts the scam is real and its all over the internet rightnow. Just be prepared when you open the box and find a Intel cpu instead.
Probably because of WCCFTECH
