This is a small form factor PC, competitor to an Intel NUC or a Lenovo M series Tiny. Comes with OS preinstalled, but also apparently supports Ubuntu or Chrome OS.

The outstanding features are it's newer Apollo Lake chipset, and HDMI 2.0 port which outputs 4k at 60hz, plus you also a spare 2.5" bay for you to stick in a bigger drive if required.

Also quite a few options in the BIOS

It's definitely a lot cheaper than an Intel NUC6CAYH as it already includes storage, RAM and operating system.

Apollo Lake J3455 (1.5-2.3Ghz), Intel® HD Graphics 500
4G RAM LPDDR3 (1600MHz)
64GB Msata SSD
SATA 3 internal port to support a 2.5" drive
Windows 10 Home
Gigabit Ethernet
Dual Band WiFi with AC support (2 antennas)
Wake-On-Lan support (Soft Off state (S5))
HDMI 2.0
VGA
Bluetooth 4.2
2 x USB 3.0
2 x USB 2.0
MicroSD card slot
MIC/Audio jack port
12v/3a AC

FAQ:

    SSD Extendable, HDD 1TB.

    Nice, very nice

  • How does it compare to

    VOYO V1 VMac Mini PC

    $200.79 delivered.

    • +6

      Apollo Lake N3450 vs J3455
Laptop / Netbook CPU as opposed to desktop processor

slower clock speed, lower power usage, versus higher clock speed, more power usage

6 watt TDP vs 10 watt TDP
      slight performance difference

      HDMI version 1.4
      one less USB port
      no dualband Wifi AC.

      • No Bluetooth on the VOYO

  • I haven't yet read through reviews, but any comments on noise with the VORKE? It definitely seems to tick most boxes for a HTPC. Thinking of it as an upgrade for my N2820 NUC. I also assume RAM is soldered on as no mention of an additional DIMM?

    • +1

Liliputing says the RAM is not removable.
      https://liliputing.com/2017/05/vorke-v1-plus-is-a-200-win10-…

      • Thanks for that. This is an excellent deal but given I already have RAM, SSD and OS from my NUC I will pass and look for a good deal on the Intel NUC6CAYH0. Great deal for an AIO though.

        • This particular chipset cant upgrade the ram. The v1 with the j3160(slower chipset) can.

    • +1

I have the version with the slower chipset and i find it quiet, can only hear a non offensive hum if there is no other noise in the room.

  • Will this be perfectly fast for web browsing? Comparable to an i3 2100 with SSD?

    • I didn't have any issues on the previous VORKE V1 model which used a slightly slower CPU. The experience was quite good.

      • Okay thanks. Is the unit made of plastic or metal?

        • The Vorke V1 was made of plastic. I'm not sure about the newer model.

    • Will be much slower than a 2100, but fast enough for general browsing and uses a lot less power.

  • Any idea if this is fanless or not?

    • +3

      it has a fan.

  • Sounds like an OK deal except the Apollo Lake J3455 does not have "native HDMI 2.0" so that term is not really accurate for this system.

It simply has HDMI 2.0 though added hardware.

  • Would this be sufficient to output downloaded 4K files to a tv over hdmi with 5.1 sound?

    • I think it depends how you are playing them. Direct play should work fine if you are using plex or something but forget about transcoding.

    • Depends on the encode.
8-bit h.264 should be fine but 10bit h.264 or h.265 would be iffy and it'll depend on the media player and bitrate

      • According to this: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-500.182723.0… the GPU can hardware decode H.265.
The GeekBuying website says HDMI output at 4k/60fps.

        So might be OK?

        • +1

It certainly has the capability and here it's shown to be able to handle at least up to 4K30fps h.265 as long as you're using Kodi, it's just it skipping frames in MPC-HC is concerning. There's not anything better out there for $230 though.

      • My $500 LG smart tv plays h.265s. Plug the usb flash drive into it and away it goes. I'd be very annoyed if this Vorke, which presumably is much more powerful, can't.

I have no idea of the technicalities involved.

    • +1

given its newer than N3450 which is whats in my msi cube then id say it should be just fine even with high bitrate files

i play 10bit hdr x265 on my N3450 and has no issues or stuttering etc

I've got the older Model of this and it's a pretty good little machine. Fan isn't excessively noisy however with 10W processor it might be a little louder in new one?
The older one you can upgrade the RAM to 8G as it's not soldered. About the only other difference I can see at a glance is the newer one is Bluetooth 4.2 Vs 4.0, not sure how much that would matter.
It's still available for about US $20 less as well.
I've been using mine as a NVR using Xeoma on Ubuntu, which it handles quite well (recording to an external USB HDD).

  • Does this actually come with Windows 10, or is it just Windows 10 compatible?

Update: Checked the comments and it appears it comes pre-installed. Nice.

  • Does it come with a remote control?

    • +2

No, just buy your KB and mouse. I use one of these.

It doesn't do infrared so all input controls need to be done via USB devices or Bluetooth

I wanted a mini PC to use as a Kodi/Skype box… But wanted total investment under $150

I bought a Chuwi HiBox Pro for around $153 before CR Cashback

Intel X5 Z8350 quad core CPU
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    64GB eMMC
    SD card slot
    3 USB Ports. 1xUSB3, 2xUSB2
    Windows 10 Home.
    Passive (fanless) cooling
    Comes with remote
    Gigabit Ethernet
    Dual Band WiFi

It was delivered today, i'll pull it apart tonight and see if the RAM is up gradable or if it supports a SSD.

    • Anyone care to compare the Chuwi HiBox (Currently $114.90 USD) vs the VORKE V1 Plus? Which is the better buy?

I'm an OzBargainer so I have obviously bought the cheaper Chuwi HiBox but now I see the VORKE V1 Plus so I'm trying to decided what to put on the second TV. Chuwi HiBox or VORKE V1 Plus. Any advice guys?

  • I have the earlier model of the vorke V1 and been very happy with it. Connects to my NAS via wifi and running kodia via win 10 metro interface.

Can take a stnadard 2.5" drive so you have a decent amount of expandability.

It's not super fast, but a perfect HTPC or kids PC to do basic web browsing or media consumption.

Can hear the fan, and it's always on, but you need to be quite close to hear it.

  • It is $237.81 AUD, how to get $229.9 AUD, any help please?

    • AUD must have dipped today.

      • Thanks, mate

    • +1

Don't pay in AUD, switch back to USD before you add to the cart. Pay in USD using a credit card that offers no overseas transaction fee.

that being said 229 was the price calculated this afternoon, and the final price you end up paying fluctuates constantly.

  • IR?

    • nope, bluetooth

  • I currently use a fantasy instabox A8 that I bought for a similar price 2 years ago. It's giving be grief runming twitch and no longer use it for kodi as playing movies through the tv has better quality. ( no lag / bad refresh lines)

I would like to get a new media player, how does this perform with kodi / twitch. I run a 4k tv (web2.0 os so it's useless with apps)

I'm keen to upgrade but haven't had much of a read on what's out there, figured a nuc would be ott for a simple media player. Shield could do the job.

  • Can you get a panel to work with these? I like the idea of mounting it behind the monitor, but don't want to have to reach behind to get to the usb ports. It'd be great to have something to bring the ports to the front just under the screen

  • Placed an order for the Vorke + mount. Chose Australia Direct Line (5-8 Business Days) for shipping as it didn't charge any extra, but who knows if it will make a difference. I'm thinking of buying a few panel leads, and making up a quick patch panel type deal so the power on and usb ports are accessable from the front of the monitor

  • Recieved mine a few days ago. Worked the first time but now it's not. I'm guessing its the power adapter
