Yes but do they bang good?

  • Great deal OP, just a couple of things to consider though:

    • Looks like water needs to touch all 3 terminals for it to operate, these terminals are located far apart.

    • If there is gush of water leaking it might potentially water damage the sounder itself

Something like this should address the above concerns:

I would have thought: "Fire damage is one of the most common and costliest problems affecting homes. Even a small amount of fire can cause serious damage to your home." I've never known anyone wiped out by water leaks.

    • the fire is probably still worse at its extreme but with those braided hoses on taps starting to split, there's a surprisingly high incidence of flooding. Braided hose has a service life of ten years or something. When you have certain chemicals aired on the same area the fumes can attack the braid, weakening the hose.

    • Last year a friend of ours had a leaking shower. The leak caused mold and mold spores. They had to move out for a couple of weeks whilst the house was cleaned…

      key words…. most common…

water leaks happen way more than fire does.

Showers leak, washing machines leak, dishwasher leak, those flexi hoses under the sink burst, roofs leak, kids overflow baths.

These happen WAY more than a fire and can be really costly to repair.

Ever seen what damamge a burst hose under the sink does when left running all day long?

  • should be called a flood alarm.

Rising water or falling water? Check your insurance policy.

Install a fire hazard to protect from flood. Seems OK to me.

How is it a fire hazard?

      • Like the main powered smoke alarms that can catch fire. Although I doubt the 9V in this unit could do the same.

        • Anything mains powered is a fire risk, but this is 9v, about as much as a fire risk as a 9v smoke detector.

  • So, put one in roof cavity, and one behind built in dishwasher. 13 or so months later get driven mad by faint beeping warning low battery until finally remember the things…. ;-)

  • I have had water leaks before. It flooded my house while I was at work. I just let it dry out, fixed the leak and everything is fine again. No damage or anything significant. One of these wouldn't have helped as I wasn't at home, it'd of just annoyed the neighbour (I doubt they'd come over to investigate if they can't see smoke).

The only time there has been a significant issue from a water leak is at my dads house where he knew of the leak but couldn't be bothered to fix it. Destroyed his kitchen from months of constantly soaked cupboards. He still managed to claim it on insurance though and got a new kitchen out of it. Don't know how.

  • Not sure how this would work in a bathroom next to a bath where the floor is often wet. Do you remove it when having a bath because of the annoyance factor and forget to it put back?

Another problem with these is you're often out of the house when the undetected large scale leak occurs. So it won't help unless it happens when you're asleep or somewhere close but not able to detect it yourself. I used one next to an aquarium and the only time it's helped is when there was a condensation spill. Still better to have one than not. I now have a unit connected to my alarm system so I am notified remotely as well.

  • Good for floaties

    • Username checks out.

  • How does it work?. Looks to me like more of a gimmick device.
