So $8 more to buy in store from Myer vs from an eBay seller with 82 feedback?
      Bargain.

They are a reputable local business who has been in business since 1911. They are still cheaper even with the lowest coupon ebay offers, they have been much cheaper prior from the same seller.

I remember back in the days when Bose headphones where $254 on Ebay. :'(

Yes, $254 incl. DHL Express Shipping, only takes 2 days to arrive. One of the best deals for last FY

You're doing pretty well. Most people here forgot what they ate for breakfast.

Although if they are Ozbargainers, you can assume that it was Eneloops.

        • I actually assumed it would involve a coupon of some sort :)

    • Was there an ozb link? Would like to take a look.

The Good Guys, take note on pricing from Myer Catalogue and Myer eBay - No price jacking here!!!

    • +2

Price jacking frequently happens when the eBay discount code is store specific. Happens a lot less when its site wide.

In general Bose is a triumph of marketing over value.

I have a Lifestyle 20 system that I paid over $4,000 for years ago. Should have done more homework.
They're loud but sound lacks richness. My next system gave a far better result for around $1500 at a hi-fi shop.

The Lifestyle head unit was poor quality and failed just after warranty. Silly thing is in the garage somewhere.

    • Lol damn, you should palm it off on Gumtree. Scam the scammers!

    • +2

They lack richness because of the huge gap between subwoofer and satellites. It is well known that Bose tried to bridge that gap by making the subwoofer go much higher than a sub is meant to, so that it sounds as if the set as a whole is powerful. But the satellites have no power at all. The overall sound is V-shaped, which appeals to people who are looking for something powerful and clear, but it is not a very accurate sound reproduction.

      • Yes this.
Comparing the Bose sub to a little "Energy" brand sub I have revealed it.
Doubt anyone would pay double for a Bose if they heard the contrast.
Mysterious how Bose demo set ups in stores are away from other hi-fi systems. Marketing.

        • Which setup do you have now?

    • Yeah,

It's kinda discouraging seeing people defend Bose saying that papercone speakers are better than the exotic materials commonly used in pro gear.

  • Epos Epic 5 speakers were approx $950 on a deal.

Pioneer Vx-922 receiver was approx $500.
I could hook up more speakers but only use 2. I switch on the little sub sometimes for movies but usually not needed.

Anything like that should be good, see what you can find and which speakers you like.
