    Kodi 🤔

  • This thing doesn't have true Android TV like a Xiaomi right? So how could it possible play Netflix at 4k it should be limited to 480p is it not?

    • According to Netflix Videostrong/MECOOL aren't authorised and will not be in HD/4K. Perhaps they think that it's 4K because the TV box supports 4K?

      • Description says it supports Netflix but may need to see more reviews

        EDIT: supports Netflix 4K https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/reply/316460/4841835

        • Anyone can upscale the resolution on TVs and most TV Boxes. To have true 4K Netflix the device needs to be approved by Netflix themselves. Netflix says it's not approved and neither manufacturer or vendor have been able to provide proof either. I seriously doubt it's approved, but you're more than welcome to try.

      • interesting question ……. you set 4K in your Netflix account, and they charge extra for it ..goes up again in Australia next month, thks to gst on… not a limit of device, but the subscription you pay for starters.

So it's not the authorised that's the problem, it's are you willing to pay $17.99 p/month for 4K when not all content is 4K ?

went through this drama when my broadband died for 4 weeks due to flooded pit, and I had to use mobile broadband …. so I down graded my mecool S912 from 4K so I wouldn't blow the data cap……. it's the Netflix account you subscribe to and how you set it up on your devices…. you probably don't want 4K on your mobile devices unless work pays for it….. but you want 4 K at home ….. need to set up each device …….

    • The manufacturers claims have potentially been distorted by this review. Review does not appear to be hands on at all.

Saying "Support 4K Netflix Youtube" has a greater expectation than "Support 4K, Netflix, Youtube"

  • I find bargains.
I cannot confirm or Deny 100% what the advertisement implies.
    I can say is
    Caveat emptor.

But a good price for a 2/16 unit many have paid far more for far less.

  • Was looking for a M8S at a cheap price, only downside is that it has no Bluetooth

  • so i can install Kodi on this?

    • +1

yes, and will probably already be installed in some form.

      Installs direct from Play Store.

  • Good price but these s905x boxes are a bit of a lucky dip. At some point many owners of these boxes opt to install LibreElec Kodi, which most people agree gives you a better Kodi experience than Android. One thing that differs from box to box is the wifi. Not all manufacturers provide Linux drivers and that means that not all s905x boxes can do wifi or Bluetooth in LibreElec.

Forget about Netflix 4K. the question is if it supports any sort of HD, or just 480p.
They claim "Widevine lever[sic] 1 DRM", meaning level 1, which is needed for HD Netflix.
If if it does work and netflix does not cut them off for using somebody else's key, you still have the awkward touchscreen (phone/tablet) version of netflix, and muck about tryong to use it with a mouse.

Much better to have the proper TV version on Mi Box etc.

  • These are ok if you have wired internet near your TV, because wireless is hopelessly bad.

  • +1

got similar for this purpose , box is 4k, netflix is not :(

    • -1

Similar doesn't count. This claims to have the DRM.

repeat: all this talk of 4K netflix may lead people to think it "only" does 1080 or 720P. No, Android normally only has 480p.

      • Netflix considers these Streaming Media Players to be only ones certified to play Netflix HD video:

        Apple TV
        Google Chromecast
        Roku
        Amazon Fire TV
        Google Nexus Player

        NVIDIA Shieldhttp://androidpcreview.com/netflix-hd-android-tv-box/3784/

        • Of course that list includes Android-TV but not Android devices. The Mecool is plain Android, so would not appear there anyway.

There is a much longer list of Android phones and tablets here:

          https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23939

My phone does do Netflix HD but is not on that list, which must be very outdated.

I do not recommend the Mecool, but they do claim Widevine-1 and holding up a list is no proof of anything.

  • Is there a reset button so I can install TWRP and Librelec?

  • Code no longer works expired

    • You can try my post from Banggood as an alternative.
