        Don't worry, we don't have teeth…

        • GOLD!

One of my highlights of the year is the Swans V Pies game here in Sydney. Every year I take my seat and watch the Collingwood supporters! It is the most hilarious thing ever!

        • +1

haha, i sat with the cheer squad in the pre-lim of 2008 and thats not too far from the truth.
          go pies

This is a pretty good deal - even though you can see it for free elsewhere, it should be a good atmosphere.

Question: are any cinemas showing this in 2D??? I'm not keen on wearing 3d glasses for that long

        • +4

          Gummed to death … argh!!!!

No alcohol … no BBQ … sooooo unAustralian….

  • +2

Interesting but I see no bargain here?

    • yehh agree, this is more like an ad

    • -2

Agreed, not like there is any savings.. Plus, the Village Cinemas offer is better.. You get Bottomless Coke for the same price.

      • -1

Villages cinemas isn't better for those people that live far away, you can only drink so much coke, but this isn't a bargain, just an ad.

      I googled dictionaries of 'Bargain':

If someone loves AFL and wants to purchase this, then it's an advantageous or gainful transaction to them. That makes it, by definition, a bargain.

The same would apply to someone buying something really expensive at a cheaper (but still expensive) price - to them it would be an advantageous or gainful transaction. But if you don't think it is then ignore it (just as most will ignore my ramblings here ;-)) - but no need to neg it.

      • "really expensive at a cheaper (but still expensive) price", but what is it cheaper than? This is the same price as the other movies offering similar deal so nothing is cheaper and this is just standard pricing ie. not a bargain. If your comparing it to going to the game, that is illogical as it's like comparing going to Dominos with going on a holiday to Italy. Not remotely the same.

  • +2

Well actually i think it is a bargain.. for those who miss out on the actual live game they get to see it in a setting much better than the TV couch combo at home. Sure you can argue it is an ad, but i bet a whole lot of people will go to this because they saw it on OzBargain.

Voting neg on this is not good for the community. Too many haters out there.

  • Define bargain…..

if by bargain you mean that its been sold previously at a much higher price and now you can get the same thing as before at a lower price then i guess its not a bargain.

However, for anyone who can't get to the game and wants a good alternate place to barrack with other nutcases as all barrackers should then its a pretty good deal - I think.

Point is that its not like a product you can buy off the shelf - its a one off and the comparable price is hundreds of dollars

    • So I should submit 'deals' for every car under $200,000 because compared to a Ferrari their a bagrain? How about I submit a deal for tap water? Compared to Champaign it's a bargain. If people wanted an alternative they would research, this is a bargain site not a 'what's on' site.

        paintoad:
May I suggest that it may be more productive to simply express these concerns directly with a mod in order to have this thread deleted. If it is not a bargain then I'm sure that those who have the most interest in preserving the purity of this site will agree to remove this. If not then it will stay. Simple
Either way, a continued argument of the matter is a more negative contribution to this site than the existence of a questionable "bargain". Therefore I don't intend to question your conclusions, I think everyone can do that for themselves.

I will merely quote from above:
"If someone loves AFL and wants to purchase this, then it’s an advantageous or gainful transaction to them. That makes it, by definition, a bargain."

        • See above.

I think its disgusting the prices these cinemas charge thesedays. That is very expensive to be watching it on a screen. I wouldnt pay more than $22 or so..

Also why the booking fee? Isn't the point of buying online to reduce staff…

I use to be a die hard cinema fan and would go every week, now they are lucky if I go twice a year. its just too expensive and the surcharges for every little thing are not warranted.

    • The booking fee is for the company that runs the online booking system which i don't think is owned by the cinema chains…

  • haters gonna hate

  • Is This the player haters ball

  • this is ok if I wasn't going to the granny

  • I actually agree with the negs, when you think about it, a watered down med coke, regular popcorn, and a hotdog are no bargain with a cinema ticket, if the cinema companies were more organized, they could drop the prices by say 5 to 8 dollars and pack some cinemas out. While I like to see threads like this rather than electronics and printers etc, this is no bargain, I'd rather go to a pub with friends and spend more on a good time!

    • thats why I like this site - some people will think a certain price is a good deal and some people will still consider it too much. I like reading differing views of what others constitute a bargain to be and it informs me. There have been numerous times I have decided to buy a "bargain" then after reading other views have changed my mind in some way.

I haven't bought my tickets yet so happy to read more from the negs.

    GO ST.! :D

I work at a Hoyts cinema, if you purchased these things seperately it would work out to be more expensive.

    3D ticket - $20
    Glasses - $1
    Small popcorn - $6.80
    Medium Drink - $5.10
    Hotdog - $5

I don't work at the candy bar often but the prices are about that, with the booking fee and glasses it's a saving of about $6

Also about booking fees, i'm not sure what company gets the money, but one could argue that the benefits are:

    a) being able to purchase a seat in advance, ensuring you are able to get a place AND can choose your seats.
    b) You can line up in the red carpet line. Being a Saturday during school holidays that would save you a good 15 minutes in line.

The world cup finals sold out a few days before the event, that is why people want to book without having to queue up.

      • He is just stating what the prices are he even said he is an employee.

  • Let's keep this civil. Discuss the deal without attacking each other.
