i saw them in a museum once, they were used to scare away birds from fruit gardens in the olden days
That's what I used them for, or as a coaster for my coffee.
I remember they used to be free in the mail or the paper from the various dial-up ISPs in the 90's.
It's a 35 year old audio format with significantly better sound quality than what most people listen to these days.
Not better than my 192K, 24-bit FLACs;-)
That was probably ripped from a CD ;)
Sounds good.
However have clicked on numerous albums and constantly getting a message about product not available due to region restrictions.
Do you use a VPN to access this website?
VPN and O/S CC much like like using Amazon prime etc:-) There are a few other sites too, just Google "HIRES music".
What are these circular shaped things that you call CD's?
Shiny, quite attractive discs that typically hold lossless* audio which is still better quality than what the majority of listeners are listening to today. They look much like DVD and Blu-Ray discs which still hold the majority of pre-recorded content sold worldwide. Unlike DVD, the audio is typically not lossy on a Compact Disc.
Being lossless*, Compact Discs can be converted to practically any popular or unpopular audio format - now and in the future - to be played on virtually any device - without the cumulative quality losses that you'd normally get from converting from a lossy format to begin with, like MP3 or AAC, to another lossy format (like making a photocopy of a photocopy). Only a small percentage of audio enthusiasts seem to care about such things though.
Compact Discs are quite cheap to manufacture and distribute (both hardware and the discs themselves), but they are typically far more expensive compared to downloads. Downloads require far less physical space in the home to store, and far less distribution costs, zero packaging costs and the end-user provides the data storage costs. As the end-user quickly fills up their storage device, often a last resort is to store their data on another hard drive, flash drive or optical disc like DVD, CD & Blu-Ray.
Compact Discs are still the 'lowest common denominator' audio format for sharing audio with computer-phobic users. The Compact Disc format was a co-development between Philips of the Netherlands and Sony of Japan. In some circles, the fidget spinner craze is thought to be the result of the lack of shiny, attractive spinning discs in the lives of da childrenz.
- *Lossless if you don't count the 'time lost' between each sample of audio, occurring at the rate of 44.1kHz
Whats a CD? You mean CoD? Which version?
CDs? ah the things that I put in my car when I got it and haven't seen since.
I always thought a CD was a crossdresser?
Thanks OP, will check it out.
Nah, too newfangled. I'm sticking with vinyl. ;)
I still have vinyl pants.
thanks op, a few good ones on there. I still buy CD's and then transfer them to my phone etc
CD's? Are they the new shiny smooth records?
The older the shiny round thingie the more chance there is something of value thereon.
Cassette Disc.
