40% off Board Games @ Target

750

Even though Target advertised as 20% off boardgames, some of the games are having 40% off. This is the cheapest I have seen for some games, time to grab some for the kids or get prepared for Christmas.

3D Action Snakes & Ladders $6
Sea Battle $6
Link Words $6
4 in a Row $6
Pop 'N' Go Boardgame $6

  • nice, I have $50 budget for today, which one is must buy?~ for kids around 5 years old

My son loves snakes and ladders, you can't beat that game but just looked at the 3D version here and I wouldn't bother, go the classic version less pieces to lose and easier to set up.

Trouble and Uno. Pity they don't sell Sorry or Blokus - All great games for a 5 year old.

take your $50 elsewhere! Here are some great kids games you can order online:

all winners or nominees for the prestigious Kinderspiel des Jahres (kids game of the year in Germany).

      • ice cool looks good, but only available on ebay around $50 ><

        • Definitely worth the money, these games last for many many plays

        • +1

unfortunately I can't offer too much first-hand experience with introducing 5 year olds to board games, but I have a pretty good feeling Ice Cool would see more plays than Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, Connect 4, Trouble, Battleships and Yahtzee combined.

I had all those games growing up and they just sat in the cupboard. Ice Cool maybe doesn't have the staying power of something like Ticket to Ride or Pandemic (games to look at when the kids get a little bit older ;) ) but I still think its a far better investment than the titles on offer at Target, even if you got 5 or 6 games out of your $50.

        • I've shifted to Forbidden Desert rather than Pandemic - v. similar but easier to teach (particularly the fiddly rules in Pandemic about transferring cards and being in the same city) and additionally the pieces are fun to play with :) 5 or 6 years old probably still too young for Forbidden Desert though. 10 maybe? We'll see, my friends' kids are only 1-3 at the moment, I can't wait until they're old enough to start playing some "real" games. I'll check out Ice Cool (in a couple of years)!

        • I actually prefer Forbidden Desert myself, but I find Pandemic still wins the popular vote.

    My childhood is on sale!
I was certain that it would no longer exist in a world of iPads and gaming consoles.
    It gives me hope.

I believe some of these kmart has at lower prices already.

My friends and I really love Monopoly Deal as the game can take a different turn at any moment. Can you guys recommend something else we'd like? thanks in advance. Yep, no kids here…

    • +2

Exploding kittens and sushi go are great :)

      • Agreed; Exploding Kittens is great but not sure if stocked at Target?

    • Highly recommend Fluxx as well, the rules change throughout the game!

    • Thanks for tip! Grabbed the last Monopoly deal at my local for $9.60.

    • Machi Koro - got the dice rolling and 'take that' feel of Monopoly but quicker. Bit expensive retail though for a huge box mostly full of air. Highly recommend the Harbour expansion for this also, though it makes the game longer. BookDepository sometimes mark them down to reasonable amounts.

  • thanks, bought snakes and ladders. A classic!

  • Hungry hippos

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one each. Will play myself then give them to my nephews.

  • The only half decent game they have is Pictionary. Even then, you are better off finding a copy of Telestrations.

  • Not really relevant - but this thread reminded me that I absolutely had to purchase Looping Louie. Thanks OP

  • +1

Thanks for introducing me to Looping Louie, sounds like a great game for the kids.

I have done some research and found that the cheapest I can get is $31.95 delivered, unless anyone in Adelaide is willing to share shipping (Free shipping for >$50, that will be $27 per game).

    • No worries. I played it at Falls Festival a few years back and its stuck with me ever since. Heading off for another fest on Tuesday and realised I needed it my life again. I grabbed it from OnlineToysAustralia FWIW

      • Yeah, they are cheap $24.99 but shipping is $9.90. Good Games is selling at $27 with $4.95 Shipping and free shipping if order more than $50. That's why I was seeing if anyone in Adelaide would like to share :)

Australia should hang its head in shame with our "normal" boardgames.
Amazon or Ozgameshop has heaps of worlds best games on special right now.
FWIW Hey that's my penguin! would be a great kids game

      • yeah. its also a great app on ios

    • +2

agreed, they could at least carry the modern classics like Ticket to Ride, Catan and Carcassonne.

Target in the US does, and more.

    • +1

Agree. Target in the US, sells games like Code Names, Ticket to Ride, Carcassone, Catan, etc, while we have to pay a premium because they don't fall under the mass produced games category.

  • I was hoping they would be selling the board game where you try and grab the bone from its dog bowl. They have something similar for dinosaur.

  • get prepared for Christmas.

It's June! Surely too early for that? Plenty more board game bargains to come between now and then…

  • Has anyone played Cluedo?

    • Of course, absolute classic!!
