Seems like a smart marketing department @ 9289 to me, the (max) $50 is available to any of the fast 5000 clickers that register with ebay and buy ANYTHING on ebay for up to 50% (Max $50)rebate for items bought and immediately paid for with paypal. It is not unique to 9289

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31323

  • +3

I think it's more the fact that 9289 will specifically put the item you want to buy from their retail store online so you can claim the cashback from ebay - seems like a good idea to me

  • it seems ok if you actually qualify and get the 50%/$50 rebate.
If you miss out you are stuck with the goods at full price.
9289 have the disclaimer on the link, saying "bad luck if you miss out on the discount"
so if you are buying anyway, then it worth a shot at the saving.

  • this doesnt seem like a bargain to me

    • well considering you can get a computer part say for $50 when the original price is $100 from a trusted seller with a tax invoice and warranty. Isnt that a bargain. If not please tell me what a bargain is?

      • this is not even 9289's promotion..its ebay's so it a dupe!

    • +1

$50 off any item, from one of the cheapest etailers in Australia. How isn't it a decent bargain?

  • +8

Nice of them to do, but not really a bargain. The bargain is ebay's 50% off deal.

    • Where's the bargain if I didn't get the other offer?

      • +2

We ask people not to go around and neg every single offer that applies to them. Only those that have a real problem.

Imagine people negging every deal that doesn't apply to them, if a deal is only of benefit to 100 people of the 5000+ people here … instead of being +20 or so (not everyone votes) it'd be -3500 or something.

  • +3

agree with you sydguy. sort of a dupe really. Otherwise we start listing everyone on ebay and say its 50% off.

  • good marketing from 9289.com.au
    A + for that…

  • Dear Ozbargain member.

This 50% off promotion is provide by ebay and PayPal Australia.

And we just follow them to sell the item on eBay. The idea was for you to purchase something you want.

So you can choice the product before you join this promotion with eBay.

Please let us know if there are something you interest to purchase with this promotion, We can post eBay for you.

But important thing is we don't responsible for the 50% off promotion, that is between you and eBay.

So please make sure you meet the promotion requirement and terms and conditions.

    Thanks

  • -2

Just give you guys some idea about our eBay pricing.

Due to the eBay posting and selling cost. the deal we post on eBay will be a bit different with our website.

But the difference will not more then $10.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    • It'll be a good idea to maybe list what items you will have on offer.

      • 9289 said in their email that all you have to do is email the item you want to buy from them, then they'll list it on ebay just for you, so you get the ebay discount :D

    • +2

A price increase is definatly not a bargain. The bargain is ebay's 50% off, not 9289's ability to sell on ebay, and to INCREASE prices to sell on ebay when prices are cheaper on your own site??? how is that a 9289 bargain?

      • c'mon, they're just covering their ebay & paypal costs. give them a break.

        • +1

          Example of ebay/paypal fees

Buy It Now Price: AU$ 99.00

          Insertion Fee AU$ 1.50

          Final Value Fee AU$ 4.60

          PayPal Fees AU$ 2.68

          Total AU$ 7.28

          • @portmac: plus time for 9289 to log on to ebay and list the item, say $2.72, + 7.28 = $10 as they suggested.

            • @battler: Alternatively, they could post up their item as 1c + $99.99 postage with a gibberish name and only a link which YOU and THEM know.
Effectively, reducing ebay and paypal fees to a max of $1 BECAUSE the final value fee is based on a percentage of the product, not including shipping.

              • @cwongtech: Excessive postage which circumvent fees are a good way to get their EBAY account suspended.

    • I just got my link, the HDD cost $21.10 bucks more plus need to pay $15 for shipping!!

      • +4

I only voted negative to this deal once they said they were going to increase prices. I can't believe so many people voted +ve for a price increase!! This must be a first in ozbargain history. They would be better off buying something else they want during the ebay happy hour and getting the discount for that and then going to 9289's store directly and buying at their normal price!

      • +1

just got my link, the HDD cost $21.10 bucks more plus need to pay $15 for shipping!!

That's pure price gouging….just retracted my positive….would neg this if I could.

  • What is 9289's eBay page/username?

    • I think it's ideam or something….

  • I think they will post ne thing you wany from their website 9289.com.au on ebay and then send you d link. Correct me if im wrong.

  • +5

It's a good idea but feel a bit lame about 9289 to hijack eBay promotion. Theoretically this cost 9289 nothing to push their sales.
    Anyway customers win.

    • +1

just amazing how ppl voted positive to this. i mean they could just go back to the ebay ones and vote it.

ps: i didnt neg this because i positively voted the ebay one

  • +5

Agree, this should be posted in the forum. The real bargain is the 50% back on purchases on eBay, which has been posted.

  • -1

Its good how people can see how this is a dupe

    Over in this thread
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31226 people were saying its okay to post dupes!

    • +1

Technically speaking, it is a dupe. But that post is different as it is a combination of 2 posts and, more importantly, one of the post has been almost 1 year old.

So it's not really "people were saying its okay to post dupes!".

    • Since Day 1, it's been said that if it was posted a long time ago (rule of thumb: 1 year) and it garners some positive votes then it's fine. At the end of the day it's what users want. It's a judgement call really. 1 week: Dupe, 1 month: Dupe, About a year: Maybe acceptable if people vote for it.
EDIT: Referring to the 3 Deal

As for this deal, IMO, it's a grey area as seen by peoples comment shere. Widget X will cost less if you buy through 9289 putting it on EBAY. It will cost less to buy than on 9289's websites if you get the rebate. MSY isn't doing this deal, Officeworks isn't, so I think it's fine. At the end of the day, if you get the promotion, it will cost less to the user.

I think there are going to be lots of disappointed people in a few minutes who are not able to register online.

      • Well I guess it is okay if there are some rules about it.

That guy was just lucky it was older than 1 year. He didn't even check to see it was on here before he posted it up.

      • Other thing is, it's a combo deal.

We have had that before, where a deal was posted, that made use of other deals to create a better deal.

Us mods'll probably monitor this thread since it is a grey area.

  • Only 5000 will gone very quick.

And no way to know until you bought it and wait.

If you refer to another thread, all gone already.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/31323?page=4

    • -1

"And no way to know until you bought it and wait."

You don't have to buy until FRIDAY - specifically between 12:00 noon and 1:00pm.

2 days to search for bargains.

  • I reckon it's a good deal for me as I was one of the 5000 to register for the happy hour, so I can choose anything from 9289.

However, I believe that some will buy stuff thinking they'll get the refund when they never actually registered for the happy hour in the first place.

9289 should have probably mentioned that you need to be one of the 5000. Instead, they just mention that they aren't responsible if buyers miss out on the refund.

    • Also there are other issues if people:
      - buy outside the time Paypal considers the Happy Hour
      - pay outside the time Paypal considers the Happy Hour
      - forget they should be using their mobile phone

      • Agreed

  • Any external hard disk from 9289 at around $100?

  • +2

This is really a dupe, only thing different from the last post is saying that 9289 will put whatever you want on ebay (with a price increase of up to $10)

I was actually surprised when I got this email from them. And all they say in the email you can receive 50% back from paypal during 12pm-1pm on Friday, they say nothing about you have to be on of the 1st 5000 registered, they just put a link at the bottom with the t&c.

Should be in the forums if anything.

  • it would be good if they said they will pay 50$ cash for every1s 50$ credit^^

  • Jennica11 I sent n email n it took ur team to emails to figuemre outwhat I wanted. N now they have said that they have forwarded it to the ebay team. No reply still. Quiet poor really

    • I don't really get it. You say you email to our customer service but it forward to eBay team?????

Can you email to [email protected], And looking for Nancy.

      thanks

      • this is the reply they sent me. The email was sent to [email protected]

        Thanks for your email.

We are not sure about this item price now but it will be slightly difference from the one on 9289.com.au

But I will forward your request to our eBay marketing section.

Feel free to contact us if you have any enquire.

        Best Regards

        • -1

Our manager has told Nancy about this already. Nancy will give you the price once you email to her.

Just receive the confirm from our Manager.

          Sorry about the misunderstanding.

          Thanks

          • +3

@jennica11: considering that i have sent 3 emails to [email protected] what did you want me to do? send a 4 email? also since the special is supposed to be between 12-1 tomm it doesnt look like you will be able to get it up in time at this rate. I might actually be the first person in the history of ozbargain to neg my own deal.

            • @dy4me: Wow sorry to hear that! pretty annoying to keep sending emails to get told to send another email, sounds familiar though.

        • +2

We are not sure about this item price now but it will be slightly difference from the one on 9289.com.au

In other words, "we're going add 10-20% to our normal retail, and screw you on the postage".

  • +2

    Not a great deal.

9289 will be pocketing most of your $50 cashback.

The price set on ebay is around $20 more than their store price and has $15 shipping on top of that. Store price of these items have free delivery. Furthermore, their store price is around $10 more than some local PC shops. So if you work it out, you save $5.

I'm not going to pass my $45 savings to 9289. Going to buy another item on ebay that has same price (after adding delivery) as local store prices. That will genuinely save me $50.

  • +1

It's purely piggy backing on eBay's promotion and then they are raising prices. No deal in my opinion.

  • +1

I received the same email response as Xavierdylan (above), indicating they were not sure what the price would be….. when I did receive the link, the item is about $10 dearer, and the postage is $15 (Versus $6 something on their website). I can now buy the same item cheaper from other sellers. Bizarre.

    • +3

yes and they dont even reply to emails. now i go and check their ebay listings and not only is the price higher byt the $15 shipping means no real saving especially since i asked if i can pickup. not to mention i was looking to buy more than one of those products and only one is listed. Very disappointed Jennica11. All i can say is that this is bad marketing when it could have been a very good opportunity for u guys.oh and did i mention that i never did get any reply back with the final prices.

      • +1

Well, they now have to bear the cost of listing those items (time and listing fees) without anyone buying it. I'd have been happy buying from them if it was the same price and T&C as their online store plus $10-$15. Total listing fees, final fees and paypal fees would've cost less than $15. That would truly be a win-win. Now they are just taking advantage of eBay's promo and leeching all the savings that are supposed to be passed on to buyers. How cruel.

Also, why couldn't they just tell us how much it's going to be before they list?

Thankfully I've got some other items from other sellers that I'm very keen to get. =) It is 9289's loss really.

  • -> Jennica

URGENT: Can you get your people to put up a listing for a large stack of, say, $95 vouchers being sold for $100?

The $95 could be credited to an account nominated by the buyer or sorted out through discussions later.

It'd take some of the time pressure off people trying to sort out listings now and also resolve the problem that people at 9289 aren't responding to people's emails or handling the emails properly.

Then maybe link to it in this thread.

    Thanks

    • What's to stop them putting the prices up (or increasing shipping charges) once they have everyone's $100?

      • I wouldn't risk it.

        • They could do that.

Though if it was across the board, that would affect how competitive they are.

Other people without vouchers who were shopping may be put off if it did happen and also be put off because they could get things cheaper from elsewhere.

Jennica could also make assurances that it won't be more expensive to use a voucher.

Whereas things seem disorganised there, in that one person says one thing and another has no idea what's been agreed to, (eg see xavier's issues below) a voucher should clear that up.

Jennica could organize the putting up of a voucher and others in the company wouldn't be required to know what they are supposed to be doing. (Just business as usual except people may now have vouchers or store credit)

Also, people could save the pages of what they want now, and see if 9289 puts the prices up later if they were to do so.

Not saying they would, though I do see from xavier's example that earlier assurances were breached.

  • +2

HI The Price of the goods on your store is

    $33.99 with free shipping + 29 +6.76 shipping =69.75

Ebay listing is 69.99 +$15 shipping.

Thats more that the promises $10 or less on ozbargain. I really do feel stupid for posting this deal on ozbargain.

Also i was looking to buy 3 of each of those products. That around $200. but now i think i will go spend my money else where.

    Very disappointed with the service.

Also i had asked for pick up prices. without shipping.

9289 should not have promised a deal that they could not deliver.

Time to neg my own deal. A first on ozbargain

    • Firstly I'm not trying to sell the product to you.

But this is very important to us, Can you let me know which product you are looking to purchase.

And why the price are such more the I post on OZbargain? I need to report to our manager and also make this right.

What we said and promises, we have to make it work.

So please let me know which product we have post on eBay with that kine of difference.

      Thanks

After I found out with our team, that is our mistake.

Our product manager will change the price for you to make it more reasonable.

We are sorry for the mistake we made.

But you also have your own decision if you would like to purchase from other reseller. We just want to make this right only.

Thanks for your reminder and sorry about the mistake.

  • Dear OZbargain Mamber.

I'm totally agree with you guys can buy from other reseller if they are selling more cheaper then us.

And we can also give you our website price plus eBay cost to the customer who would like to purchase from us.

We are just here to helping people save their money, But we still have to survive at least we have to cover our cost right?

The vouchers idea was good, and we are going to post this on eBay.

Before we post, Just want to make sure everyone here are happy with that.

Still if you think we are not the reseller you prefer, we are always welcome every comment to our service and price.

We are very sorry about the communication problem between our team it cost any inconvenience to all the OZbargain member.

We are very sorry about this.

Jennica behalf all the 9289 staff.

    • I dont think any one of us are trying to run ur business down. however i think you would appreciate that when you have sent 4 emails asking for a pickup price and then the product is listed with a postage price and also more expensive it is quiet annoying. not to mention that one of the products on ur store come with free shipping ne way.
you can find the product here.

      http://cgi.ebay.com.au/9289-com-au-Edimax-Wireless-BR-6324nL…

I do agree that the ebay cost are more but im sure its not that much more.

  • You are right!

That's why we are try to make the things right over here.

We are sorry for any inconvenience it's cost and the annoying email.

Finally we have confirm it's our product manager calculation error. We are very sorry about this issues.

Our product manager already start to make the change on price which we set it wrong.

Please check that you've entered the correct item number
      *
Listings that have ended 90 or more days ago will not be available for viewing.

    • how long to use the voucher and do we get the voucher instantly?

      • sure. Once you purchase this we will send you the code instantly.

  • +1

    Wow. REALLY?
    a $95 dollar voucher for $100. I dont like this. :(

  • Well, people went through at the start that 9289.com.au is paying listing fees and selling fees to eBay, as well as paying a transaction fee to Paypal.

Then, rounding it to a simple figure, they allow the $5 difference to cover costs.

So, if people buy stuff from them, that's $95, they've still gotten $45 of the discount and it's taken the pressure off having to choose an item now.

It also says, if you spend on something more than $200 (presumably with the voucher) you'll get $10 off your next purchase.

Note: There's no minimum mentioned in the auction, but I don't know if there is anything that's just $10 at 9289.

    -> Jennica

I didn't see the relisting till after I bought something else.

Do you know what happened with the first listing?

    • I don't know what happen with first list.

There is not terms and condition for the $95 Voucher.and you will receive the $10 for your next purchase when you spend more then $200 in our store this time.

  • Just bought the voucher, but have not received the code yet, where do 9289 send the code?

    • We will send the code to your email.

      Thanks

  • Dear OZbargain mamber.

Once you have purchase the voucher, We will confirm the payment with PayPal then send you the Code by email.

    Thanks for your patience.

  • Although I didnt purchase one of these vouchers, I'd like to thank foundit for looking after ozbargain members and asking for this voucher. I hope you continue using your powers for good, and never go to the dark side :)

    • +1

      :P

I figured it could be beneficial to all parties involved :)

Jennica wants to promote 9289 … she doesn't have all the staff on board though and some of us here do buy stuff from 9289 :)

… light and dark are arbitrary and in the mind of the beholder :P

I also tried to get attention for it from a couple of other stores but they didn't respond to me in time :P

  • have all the vouchers been sent out? one of myaccounts got it. the other one hasn't.
