  • still one of the best travel / point and shoots??? looking to replace a dead tz50? (2013)

  • +1

Depends whether you really need that much zoom, or you prefer a camera that will take great photos in low light. In my experience, anything over 10x zoom is useless without a tripod anyway. I would recommend Sony RX100 (series 1 or 2) for a bit more money, but they are way better in low light. RX100 series 3 and 4 are even better but are $700 to $1000. Canon G7X is also similar to Sony RX100.

    • I have owned the TZ-50, Tz-60 & TZ-70 & you can definitely take good hand held shots over 10x zoom with them, the stabilization system is pretty good and is better with each new model.

I have now taken well over 10,000 shots across the models taken all over the world on travels. They do very good macro shots too!

  • Hhhmm yeah low light reasonably important - it's mainly to replace phone cams because they are useless in low light with young kids indoors / kicking around he yard etc

Previous tz's have been great for travel but admittedly never used ful zoom often

Sounds like I'll have to source a Sony on sale somwhere

    • You can pick up used Sony RX100 Mark 1 or 2 on eBay for under $400, that's what I did and it is so good, I hardly use my DSLR any more ;)

      • Thanks , will look into them

  • For a compact camera I would only consider getting 1" sensor. Anything below that I'd rather use flagship smartphone to take pics.

  • Paid $426 @jb 3months ago. Did a lot of research- this is the best superzoom point and shoot for under $800 on the planet (for my peasant life). Very happy with it.
