i would give it a go if there is a wifi version

    • +1

Must have it since "The water temperature can be remote controlled via your Xiaomi smart home APP"

      • Nah it uses Bluetooth

      • Why I need to remote control it?

        • cause you wake up in the morning from bed and request hot water for coffee before you leave?

        • +1

          @kid-vhee:

My Kettle only need a few mins to heat it up, can't wait?

You still need to put water into it anyway and I won't leave water in it overnight :p

        • @superforever: true. Probably a gimmick really

        • @superforever:
I agree and I think the connectivity is totally useless on such kettle but out of curiosity…

why not leaving water overnight? :)

        • +1

you can grab & go for coffee/tea. or even better, you can schedule to boil an egg for your breakfast

        • -1

          @ets27:

Because kettle unlike most water bottle which you can close it, I don't like those with an open hole on it. You don't know any insect may drop into it overnight.

        • @superforever:

Put a sheet of paper towel over it before going to bed?

        • @superforever: Yeah its like the Nespresso machine that you can control via your smartphone. Still need to put a capsule in it, and still need to froth the milk (which takes longer than the coffee anyway).

        • @superforever:

Fair enough.. On my $20 kettle there's a little net to prevent that

        • @Lorindor:

I will put the water into another water bottle instead of leave it in the kettle overnight so that I don't need to finish the water in the kettle before I can have some more hot water.

        • This can retain the temperature for up to 12 hours, it's good if you love drinking tea.

    • Thought you were joking re smart kettle.

Turns out you were not. Mind blown.

      • I love my smart kitchen gears. My xiaomi rice cooker is brilliant.

        • +1

Not saying that smart appliances aren't good (I have thousands in those damn bulbs alone), but a kettle?

I bet you my tinfoil hat that xiaomi is collecting data and spying on us. I draw the line when it comes to knowing when and how hot I like my water.

        • @tshow:

Hack into your kettle or infect it with ransomware …. :p

        • @tshow:
          yeap, I see your points.

Not all ppl want the same thing

I just want to buy something with features I need, say, a smart kettle
          1)with built wifi
          2)has schedule features
          3)has online herbal soup/tea recipes

Xiaomi smart kettle apparently isn't smart enough for me

For the data, you will be spied by someone anyway. It's either google, apple, xiaomi or whoever they are. I don't mind let them steal my recipes.

        • @y12345678:
I don't want them knowing I'm a fat f—k making a Milo at three in the morning.

        • @tshow:

You make Milo with hot water? :/ Ew

  • whats so good about it..

    • +11

      It doesn't have band 28.

    • It's white, clean and minimalist, and you can set the temperature between 40 to 90 degrees and time length up to 12 hours

      • Err doesn't water boil at 100 at sea level?

        • Not everyone wants boiling water.
          Some like tepid tea.

        • @damion:

Yeah i get that…. but $60 for a kettle that doesn't actually boil water???

        • @damoo:

The keep warm/custom temp function is limited to 90deg. It still boils water normally

        • @s732:

Ok that makes far more sense

  • +2

Whats the point to control temp remotely? Trying to find a reason to convince myself to buy it.

  • I had to lodge a paypal claim last time to get my money back from gearbest, didnt received an item.

    • Did you contact them first before paypal claim?

      • Yes

        • OK, I remember I read somewhere some people received their items several months after their claim.

It may be auspost or border security issue.

  • Have it and like it a lot. Most annoying thing is that you can't get it to turn on remotely, just set the temp and time. It has a keep warm function and we use it quite a bit for sous vide.

    • I would not recommend to keep water warm inside the kettle.

      • +3

I mostly don't. Though often I keep uncooked meat warm inside it.

      • +2

What's with you and not using kettles to hold water?

      • Why?

  • do not buy this, this is useless.
you need stand next to it to control it

  • So it's an urn disguised as a kettle?

  • +1

Bit of a gimmick really not really offering many features over a normal kettle….at the expense of only 1.5L capacity and 1800w only (most kettles are at least 2200w and 1.8L)

    • +2

"hey, check out my kettle. I can turn it on by using my phone. wait, just got to pair it…….. huh…I've got to get closer to it. c'mon stupid app…open…..uh…………there. ok…..push this button…..wait, it's dropped out……close app….open app……pairing………pairing……..aaaaaaannnnnnndddddd connected. push start on app. and my kettle -pats kettle- is now boiling water……wait, it's empty so I have to fill it……pretty cool, huh?"

      • huh. You must be one of my mates that I try showing off to.

Always seems to happen when I'm demonstrating my technological prowess.

I swear it works flawlessly when no one else cares.

        • Schrödinger's Kettle.

        • @tightwad:
That's where he left the cat I think.

  • This kettle would be great matched to this equally silly product.

    • About 44.07 US shipped.

  • So I can set the temperature to 54 degrees for 3 hours and use it to sous vide?
3 times cheaper than my Anova precision cooker!

    • +1

The Anova has an impeller to circulate the water to prevent cold/hot spots.

  • That's expensive. What's special about this one?

  • +1

Xiao Mi has a branch call Mi-Jia.

Mi Jia means Mi Home. They focus on smart appliances/ Home automation.

The boiler in itself is not super useful but their idea is to have smart applicances that can easily be control when you get home and leave home.

Notably they have this system that can detect or use a switch to turn off everything that is connected to the service.
