is this a bargain? isn't this RRP?

    • +12

$119.95 is the standard pricing across all retailers as announced this morning. It's more an alert that there is definitely more stock out there than just the big players :)

      • +10

I consider it to be a deal, compared to the people reselling these on eBay at a major markup.

        • Really? Because in 2 months people may sell this pre-order item privately for more, makes this a bargain?

        • +12

          @ozhunter: OzInvest

        • +1

          @ozhunter:

If it's true, I reckon. Would you say that buying Apple Stock was a bargain a decade ago?

      • +14

Are you the guy on the left or right in your avatar?

      • +21

If its just an "alert" take it to the forums.

      • Guys, good on you for being pro active and announcing you have stock on it's way.

People negging any of these 3 "announcements" i'd think are probably more fair titles, are fairly clueless and probably have no interest in the product.

anyone not new to the site would know the history from the mini classic debacle and appreciate the fact people are providing options.

Like most i would love to know the unit allocation allowance, i get the feeling someone has oversold already especially when the mention of hoping to hear the details of second shipment soon came up

But i know respectfully you wouldn't put it up here.

        • +15

This is advertising an item with a RRP price tag. It doesn't have a discount on it. If this was $1 cheaper than elsewhere things would be different but no, this is straight up, bonafide advertising for thegamesmen's stock.

        • +6

@R.R.P: Agreed. Unlike those NES posts, this item is listed for preorder and is available from JB and EB currently too so there isn't the stock shortages that the NES consoles had at the current time. Maybe the situation will change down the line, but as of today this is advertising for a product one can readily preorder from a few places at the same price.

Free shipping or something would change that.

        • -5

@R.R.P: Your firmly in the minority. over 10,000 clicks between the 3 show the interest level conservatively low.

No argument it's RRP, also nobody has the thing yet so who knows what will happen closer to launch.

The value add is options that allow you to actually allow you to be able to get your hands on one.

That is actually one of the main reasons i come on here people helping you source things that can be hard to get which and if a bargain is obtained excellent.

I'd still rather be looking at the console in a few months than the 120$ i wish i'd used earlier to buy it.

If you could see past the penny pinching you could see that.

        • +6

          @Toons:
I understand that you're somewhat new to this site, that right there is one of the many reasons why the forums exist buddy. Best check there in the future. If you want a site that will inform you of newly released products, I'm sure you can find one. Its called Ozbargain for a reason.

      • -2

I wish people would just STFU and get over the IS IT A BARGAIN DOE? Literally the only product causing this issue is a new Nintendo console, which as of late seems to be only one product a year. People get over it. If it bothers you then just keep scrolling, clearly these posts are staying up so complaining about them won't remove them as they haven't been removed since the last NES mini. Peace.

  • +1

Question.. i if i pre-order do you take full payment now or when it ships?
not having this answered in your FAQ was why i did no place an order when i saw it on your site earlier.

    • -2

We would be taking full payment now, yes. We can add that to the post for reference!

      • +1

Cheers… i will happily order from you guys :)
        Happy to shop local :)
Have always been a happy customer, was just curious as to pre-order process.. thanks for the update

  • +3

    how much is your delivery?
    EB looks like $5 flat.
EB: $119.95 pickup or $124.95 delivered.

    • -1

Delivery cost will vary based on location and type of postage. There's a postage calculator on the product page that you can use to approximate the cost.

      • +11

As per tomsco cheapest shipping is $9.15
so cannot compare to $5 from EB.

  • +11

Cheapest shipping is $9.15. As much as I'd love to help out a smaller company, there is no benefit to buying here vs EB.

    • +6

This will probably be downvoted, and I'm not trying to insinuate that you've complained, as you haven't. But I feel that it should be noted that Australia Post, or indeed any courier, will likely be charging more than $9.15 for shipping.

You can get a better deal elsewhere, fair enough, and you're perfectly entitled to take it of course, but I just feel that devaluing a retailer for their delivery costs is silly when they're just trying not to lose money on the cost of delivery. For sure they'll incur time and risk.

    • +9

How about supporting a decent Australian business instead of EB Games aka Satan

      • +1

        my bad, never mind

  • +42

It's a pure advertisement. No bargain.

    • +12

As are all the others, good on the Gamesmen for posting the fact that they have it for sale, given how quickly the NES sold out last year, this gives another option to those who miss out at EB or JB or for those who want to shop with a smaller locally run family business.

      • +1

Also the EB and JB ones are on the front page, so let's go for the hattrick!

      • +3

        agree with this,

there is no bargains on any everyone is rrp right now including delivery options.

it's all about product here people need to be realistic

due to last time it was getting options out so people didn't have to moan about paying 4 - 500 bucks for something they promised their kid for Christmas that was 100 at they time they told them they could have it.

the nuts and bolts will come later if deals are to be had then great reason i went with JB.

      • Nintendo has promised to have more stock this time.

        • they also promised a second round of the original… then when it was due to launch they decided to instead announce they would not be making any more

yeah there will be more, but i would still not expect to be able to walk into any store and pick one up, if you don't pre order you will most probably miss out.

        • @jimbobaus: The original was restocked at retailers multiple times. Never enough to meet demand, but stock was coming in for around 6 months in dribs and drabs.

    • +6

Cringe. I also use this website to find out about products that are relevant to the demographic of OzBargain and this serves to notify me. Otherwise I may have missed it. A bargain for me is a product I'd love to buy and am passionate about, at a price I'm willing to pay for it. The SNES Mini is even more relevant because it's in a product line that has a history of being consistently sold out.

    • +1

Within reasonable limits, if the community upvotes it as a bargain, it's a bargain.

We can always downvote and criticise in the comments if some of us believe the upvoters to be dunderheads.

    • +6

The SNES Mini — as with the NES Mini — is an exception to the rule as far as stock and availability goes. We aren't in the market of promoting things on OzBargain that we aren't discounting, but in this case, we felt it would be good to let people know, as it's highly likely that these will get increasingly difficult to find at the big retailers.

While we appreciate that OzBargain users not affiliated with the stores in question did post the others, we like to think that having an active presence here is a net positive. If you end up getting a console from us, more power to you, and we hope this listing helped you!

  • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I'd love to buy but the shipping cost is a deal breaker for me. Great deal for anyone that can collect in-store though.

  • +30

This is not the cheapest available when you factor in shipping and its being sold for RRP. Yes they are in high demand but I dont think that makes this a bargain, its just advertising.

  • +1

Could you guys please put this on your eBay store so we can use C5OZ? Would be a way better deal if eBay would allow it, both parties would win.

    • Ebay has strict limits on preorder windows and the like, meaning that we can't put it up there in that capacity unfortunately. Would if we could!

      • +1

Damn I thought so, was just a lot easier asking you guys because you're a small business and are on here, no problems!

      • Why? Wouldn't their fees unnecessarily cut into your margin. They'll sell quick enough from the retail stores.

  • -3

Easily the best deal going around.

  • +12

Can we combine all these RRP posts into one deal? Or better yet a seperate section of OzBargain like a RRP specific section?

    • +6

      Ozrrrp

      • +5

Ill pay it but you have 3x Rs

      • +3

        Ozrrp-off

      • +3

        Ozstock

  • -1

Great deal for the nostalgic fans of Nintendo, but after playing games like Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4, it will be hard to get interested in these old games for someone like me. Secret Of Mana was awesome in it's day, and for someone who has never played the games included or better still, haven't played current gen games, you'll get good value from this.

    • +1

They have some benefits, quick to load a game, so if short on time you can get a 10 minute game in. These are great for other people to play with you too, and you can chat about your childhood.

  • +31

I like the Gamesmen, but this is completely and utterly just an advertisement.

    • +7

The eb games and JB ones aren't?

      • The other ones aren't posted by reps/employees, hence not being as scrutinised for being spam.

      • -4

Yeah. And I see 0-negs on the EB one. Which makes ppl here who negged this, for that reason, hypocrites.

        • +5

Sure the other two do not represent bargains either - I can't be bothered negging all the non-bargains that come up on OzBargain relatively frequently, but I can certainly neg a company using this forum to advertise RRP deals. If I want to look up standard fare I can use the world wide google to do so.

If anyone is interested in who is actually selling the device they too can look it up on google, or maybe someone can start a forum post.

I come here for the good bargains; I can happily ignore the not-much-of-a-bargains. I don't come here to read a company's advertisements.

        • +3

          @DrC:

Ok… so maybe Gamesmen can take this down and i can post it. cause then it wont get negged?
Surely EB and JB regardless of who listed the post is EXACTLY the same.. if you had a business that was selling the EXACT SAME product that you see posted on here with 200+ comments and 300+ upvotes… would you not post the fact you have it also?
At least they linked themselves to the post so we know its not some …. "third party" and it also means we can ask questions and get valid answers (like mine earlier about payment etc)

        • +2

@jimbobaus: Sure - then I'd just ignore it like the rest of the Nintendo posts that are advertising something at the store bought price. This is simply using the forum for commercial advertising with no benefit to the community. You're welcome to re-post this deal and I promise I'll just ignore it.

        • +3

          @jimbobaus:

If the store was posting it free shipping then it could be considered a bargain.

The fact that it's over the $5 flat rate offered by EB means it's a duplicate at best, advertising at worst as they can't beat that price.

Also they are taking a full payment rather than a deposit which makes it less of a bargain.

        • +3

And I see 0-negs on the EB one. Which makes ppl here who negged this, for that reason, hypocrites.

I 100% agree. It makes no sense for the same people that throw positives on the eb and jb deals but negs on this. Its the same price. Speaking of which none of these are deals at all, they arent even discounted. Things that arent discounted dont belong on OzBargain. Cant wait until people start posting and upvoting Playstation 5 preorders, Apple iphone 8 preorders and Nintendo64 classic preorders on the front page of this site. OzBargain is turning more and more into OzAdvertising every day.

        • @jimbobaus:
that's what I was thinking as well. The lesson here for The Gamesmen is to just lie and make an anonymous account and post their 'bargains' (I personally don't really think this is a bargain either) so they can bypass the site rules.

Being upfront, clean and honest about ownership isn't the best thing to do here apparently.

      • +3

Agree. I personally don't think any of these SNES deals should be on the front page (no great shakes ofcourse), but IMO it is double-standards to not allow this. People (or bots) have voted the other SNES ones a deal - this is an equivalent price, so how is it any less of a deal?

You get what you asked for! If people think the others count as a bargain, so is this then.

        • +4

I'm not arguing that it is any more or less of a deal - none of them are really deals to me.

It is the fact that a company has come on to use this forum for marketing purposes to increase their sales without any kind of bargain defeats the whole purpose of this site.

        • +2

@DrC: Hey no argument from me :)
Just like comparing against Broden prices as references kinda defeats the purpose of this site.

May as well start putting sporting ticket for major events on here. Usually always sold out, but hey it's a bargain compared to a scalper …

    • +1

I assume you are then going to neg every other deal that has been posted about the SNES Mini today where the store is selling at RRP?

  • +2

Nintendo confirmed they're making a lot more of these after the NES debacle. So, I wouldn't jump at this yet.

    • They also said a significant amount of the original NES would be released as a second round… then they announced they were not releasing anymore… i am not keen to take them at their word…if you want one i would pre-order… or you WILL be disappointed.

  • +1

    Star fox 2??!!!

    • +1

      Right?!

      • +4

Can't wait for the rom for my pi

        • +6

I'm shocked you got an upvote for that one. All I got was downvotes for suggesting the pi to anyone who missed out on the mini NES.

        • @Trickey:

Apparently no-one likes having every single NES game and SNES game with wireless controllers…

        • @ItsMeAgro: can you explain more please - sounds like a better option.

        • @chriskq:

Emulators have been freely available for years, and are able to play all NES and SNES games on whatever PCs/laptops/tablets you have.

All kinds of wireless controllers exist from a few dollars each on ebay, though the ones that are as good as a SNES controller are more expensive.

If you own the original games still, it's obviously not dishonest to play downloaded versions of them, freely available online, using these emulators, although there are some grubby copyright laws that make it technically illegal in some circumstances.

        • I'm just happy about the previously unreleased Star Fox 2!

        • @ItsMeAgro: Yeah i know this. my old xbox had 100's of old emulator games - but you couldnt save any progress which i guess makes sense as they were arcade style games. Trying to find out if you can save progress on these games.

        • @chriskq:

Yes you can save your progress however it's done differently from a save point style. Old games would just save a particular set of codes that could then be decrypted by your save point interpreter. This is more efficient from a storage perspective as back then the amount of memory was limited. With emulators there's no such restriction so when you opt to save you are in fact saving the entire game state.

When you reload the game rom it becomes the interpreter. You then load the entire game state and the emulator does the rest. It's why the save file sizes take up more space e.g. super international cricket is a 1mb rom but the save states are 250kb or so.

Anyhow here's a couple of models of the pi 3 with retropie:

  • +3

Beat the RRP + free shipping and then it'd be a deal :)

  • +5

    Sorry, not a deal.

    • +8

No Deal, cheaper at JB anyway

      • +4

        Woo 95c.

        • +4

          This is Ozbargain mate.

        • +1

          @R.R.P:
          BARGAINNNNNN

          I bought 4 !

    • +6

      Enough of these "bargain" posts.
We get it, the SNES mini will eventually be on sale and may have crazy stock issues like the NES mini, doesn't make it a deal.

  • +7

At EB you can pre-order more than one. More click and collect locations. $5 flat rate shipping fee. Sorry GM. No bargain but an ad.

    • +8

EB have already started cancelling orders where more than 1 have been requested, or where the same buyer has ordered more than one on multiple orders.

      • +1

        Source?

        • My co worker just got an email….

basically said… you have placed the following orders.
          ORDER NUMBER
          ORDER NUMBER

then it noted the site stated it was limited to one per customer.
          they cancelled BOTH orders.

        • +4

          @jimbobaus:

Suppose that's what you get for trying to scalp - or trying to be a collector and have one opened and one not.

        • @jimbobaus:

Just order from separate sources then, one from eb, one from jbs and another, perhaps gamesmen?

        • @jimbobaus:

Not had to make multiple accounts and order, if u can be bothered wasting time for this so called bargain

  • +5

Gamesmen should know better than this, RRP is not a deal. I'll be buying this elsewhere :(

  • +6

rrp regarless of store isnt a bargain…. infact with the amount of games listed its plain insane price.

  • +1

These posts might be a grey area but I think given the stock issues the NES mini classic suffered it's not so bad to advertise available pre-orders as a bargain. Ozbargain does seem to have a huge gaming userbase, after all.
Also they may be +300% on ebay after release.

  • +2

Not sure I understand this logic of treating RRP as a bargain because the product might be in short supply in several months.

  • Wow bargain grab yours today, u snooze u lose!

  • im sorry, this is not a bargain at all…..

  • +1

Since there are so many preorders, there could be stocks from BigW or Target for 99 dollars on the release day.

  • +1

cant believe theres no SMB 3 or all stars on this.. thats the best game ever

  • Would be neat to see the vehicles implemented in Star Fox 2. Star Fox Zero best since N64 but it will be nice to finally go back and see what they had in mind before they cancelled it.

But again im just not sure if people want to spend that given the virtual console selections on Wii, Wii U, 3ds probably allow you to pick some you want.

  • +6

As much as id like to up vote this, jb hifi and eb games (Due to nostalgia) posts its going to set a bad precedence if the stores/suppliers start posting things that are advertising and not part of a deal or in themselves a deal. If the price was revised down to beat the other two posts id understand but this is RRP.

  • +7

    Cheaper elsewhere - no deal

  • +1

I am happy this deal is listed. I think the mods give exception to NES and SNES classic and I applaud them for that.
