Sony A5000 Mirrorless Digital Camera + 16-50mm Stock Lens - $422 Harvey Norman

50

I was looking for a camera to recommend to a colleague today and found this deal on Harvey Norman.

As far as I know, this is the cheapest price ever for Australian stock. Amazing camera (and kit lens) for the money.

EDIT - not the cheapest ever ($407 at Good Guys with eBay 15% off is the cheapest), but pretty close.

Not sure when the deal ends but Melbourne QV has a few in stock.

I was going to get this, but decided to spend a little more on the A5100 instead. The A5100 has a higher-res rear touchscreen, better sensor (higher res, more sensitive), faster burst rate, more focus points, and better video (50Mbps XAVC-S). Bought it for $572.99 after 15% off on ebay (with kit lens, also local stock) last week.

    • Might have to check with HN to see if they have any in stock based on your recommendations.

can save another $50 if you have AMEX offer

    was cheaper two weeks ago:
    $407 : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312903

and been cheaper with other random stackings/coupons/vouchers before:

i stand corrected on my 'cheapest ever' claim. still, 422 is very close to as good as it gets without relying on an eBay coupon.

      • lol, what about 3 years ago when videopro had it for $387 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176954)

anyways you should argue the point with AMEX deal it would be cheaper -$50 = $372 ( i think definitely the cheapest ever )

More than 3 years old technology. For $100 more get Panasonic GX85 using current CTAX20 eBay promo.

Who is doing it for $522?

  • Isn't the A6000 posted yesterday a better deal?

    • The HN giftcard rebate has ended now

      • Hmm, how come? The Sony page says it's for purchases till the 31st of July:
        https://promotions.sonyanz.com/eftposgiftcard#faqs

        • That isn't the HN giftcard rebate.

But if you clump it with the Sony rebate plus 2 amex cards the A6000 deal is still better.

  • If you can spend a bit more on the A6000. $150 more but definitely worth it.

This is more targeted at people who have no intention of shooting in manual settings. In that scenario, a smart phone today is quite decent (talking about flagships like an S8, iPhone 7+ etc), especially in day light. In night time, you really have to start knowing what you're doing to get good photos, and then you will need manual settings.

Changing the ISO, while in manual requires you to press the menu button, then brightness and then change ISO. Where as in the A6000, ISO, shutterspeed and Apeture can easily be accessed without going in to menus.

A6000 also can accept an external flash and finally, the overall feel of the a6000 is a bit nicer.
