I have a similar Sony camera. Taking photos in sunlight without a viewfinder is very troublesome and its near impossible to see the screen. If you can afford it, get one with a viewfinder for this reason.
Have you tried boosting brightness of the screen.
It works very well on my Pentax K-01.
