  • Very odd, had one delivered to an address in Parkes NSW, and when I went to use it, the rewards were gone, looked online and someone in 'The Ponds' near Blacktown NSW had redeemed them first. What in the world…

    • +1

      Happened 3 times, dodgy

    • +1

same here, only received card today and someone shopped the points in the ponds and kingsgrove in NSW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

  • +1

My $20 off next shop is back in my account, seems like they fixed the issue!

    • -2

      Not mine… just checked 😳

    • -1

Doweyy, could you share the screenshot of how it was rectified in your account?

      • +1

Here you go, the $20 off was removed for a while but it is now back on the main page as shown.

        • Cheers and if you go to my account>my activity?

        • @capri:

Here you go :) I didn't check the activity page when it was removed but I believe it wouldn't have been there.

        • -1

@doweyy: thanks for sharing Doweyy…so weird the redemption/ removal wasn't on the activity page. At least fixed for you now…enjoy!!

  • -1

Hi guyes, anyone registered on 2 July got their points yet? I still haven't got mine..

    • -1

      Same

  • +2

Points still haven't been converted back yet since they got converted to qantas points

  • -3

Did anyone elses account have it's points transferred to qantas even though you never added a qff number and your redemption settings are $10 off your shop?

    • +2

You don't bother to read comments do you?

      • LOL my bad, I swear those comments weren't there when I posted

  • Dammit should have used it earlier. Mine also says

    Converted to Qantas Points
    6 July

  • +3

For info I made contact with WW Rewards online chat to complain about the deduction and conversion of points and was told they will adjust and return to points only for account holders who contact them. Not likely to be done automatically.

  • +3

anyone also notice theyve taken the 1002 points that were earned as well (on top of the $20 bonus) today?

    wtf is going on

    • Not on mine. But then again I never lost my $20 to Qantas.

    • +1

Same here no points left. Cheers woolies!

    • +5

So I contacted Woolies and got an email reply saying they are aware this is a technical issue and will look into fixing it yesterday, then I log in today and found the remaining 1002 points deducted
      Nicely fixed woolies

  • Today I was told that the issue will be fixed within 10 working days.

    • +1

everyones been told different things, so im not holding my breath

      • +3

True! I was told this promotion has been misused and a formal investigation is underway to be completed in 7 working days. There was no glitch or error and the points were purposely taken off all accounts ($20 +1002 points)!!

  • -5

I don't know why so many people have contacted them, this is absolutely ridiculous. If you didn't spend the points straight away, well, you will have to suck it up. 3x of mine were cancelled because I was unable to get to the shops earlier but I profited regardless and it got me through a tight two weeks. Hoping it happens again but not at this rate.

    • just because youre broke dosent mean youre entitled more than someone else

      • -2

People weren't entitled to this anyway at all ¯_(ツ)_/¯ it was targeted…that's why I'm saying they should have used common sense and used them straight away

  • I have no idea what is going on but my $20 was gone, found out it was used on a giftcard which i did not purchase. Customer service changed my card number and refunded points

    • I had the same issue. Looking at the activity it tells me someone used my card in NSW…can you pls advise what you did…you called there customer service?

      • I used the online chat and told them what has happened and it was sorted out immediately

        • great. will that a go tomorrow.

  • not to be confused /embarrassed at WW checkout again, any loyalty card App that able to check WW Rewards points automatically?

  • -1

In my case the 20 dollars was added to the card not as points but as an extra gift. Points show 1002 but at the bottom of the receipt it says congrats you have 20 dollars to spend. So can I use these 20 dollars at BigW or at Woolies supermarket only? Thanks.

    • +1

You can't use the $20 Woolworths dollars at Big W, they don't participate in the program anymore.

You can use the credits at Woolworths Supermarkets or BWS.

      • Thanks mate. Will have that in mind.

    • In my case the 20 dollars was added to the card not as points but as an extra gift

      that's exactly how it's supposed to work…

  • +4

Still haven't received my Woolworths Rewards card in the mail so I thought I'd check my Woolworths Account to see that my $20 had been redeemed today in Kingsgrove which is 3 and a half hours away from me!

    • Some people are experiencing the same. I think Kingsgrove might be their head office.

    • +1

Same! $20 of points supposedly redeemed on 16 July 2017 at Kingsgrove, on a totally unused card. WTF?!

      • just initiate a chat conversation to them online and they will issue a new card with credit back in it. It happened to me as well. I am not sure what the issue is but it seems they are aware of this or may be somehow they are validating it belongs to actual person….i don't know

  • Customer service said it was a system error. Might be worth calling to get it sorted.

    • Not too sure about the system error. Mine $20 was redeemed at Hurstville and there was some spend on my card at Parramatta. Got onto chat with CS and they had no clue what happened. Told them my concern is whether there is a IT security breach and WW$ was stolen. Waiting for their investigation updates. If this could happen to WW$, won't there be a risk to WISH gift card transaction?

      • +1

just initiate a chat conversation to them online and they will issue a new card with credit back in it. It happened to me as well. I am not sure what the issue is but it seems they are aware of this or may be somehow they are validating it belongs to actual person….i don't know

  • +1

Reckon they've had to do this to investigate all the fake accounts from ozbargian members?
12654 clicks * $20 = $253,040 — and that's assuming said members clicked the deal each time, instead of just bookmarking the site.

Quarter of a million is a lot of money.

    • +6

Well we are "professionals" after all according to Gerry Harvey

  • +5

My card had $20 redeemed at Kingsgrove as well.

Apparently, anyone with a smart phone can download the Woolworths Money app, you can enter random rewards card numbers and the app will tell you if you have money accrued under that card, so once you found a card number that has money in it, you can then enter the card number into apps like Stocard to scan at Woolworth and have money off your shopping, using someone else's card. I believe this is how my card number was used by another person.

I know you need a password to redeem Flybuys money at Coles but apparently you just need to scan the card to redeem your money at Woolworths which is quite a big loophole.

    • +1

Well I also have this Kingsgrove redemption. Though it does not exactly look like it was spent for groceries.
Activity page shows $20.00 spent (for which you must match your purchases cent to cent) with 0 in Saved column (means you didn't buy any specials). My shopping always shows smth Saved…
Rather looks like money spent online for gift-cards or some IT hacks

      • +1

Same here. Transaction showed $20 was redeemed at Hurstville with no purchase on 14 July and then some groceries purchase on 15 July at Parramatta. Looks like a breach on the IT system to me and is concerning since I use only the WISH gift cards for all my WW purchases.

      • Maybe a 20 dollar iTunes card or other recharge cards. If they are doing it on scale, it wont be for cookies and flour. It will be exact dollar amount (20) and something that they can resell.

    • oh yeah that is too true… woolies should do something about this!

I know you need a password to redeem Flybuys money at Coles but apparently you just need to scan the card to redeem your money at Woolworths which is quite a big loophole.

I didn't.. just scanned my flybuys and it asked me if I wanted to take $10 off without any password.

      • Some cards can be set to this option. It used to be a feature linked to you having a specific mastercard.

  • Wth….I had same issue as you all earlier….I got them to put $20 back in and next day money is gone. while I am waiting for my card.

    • Was the $20 back on the existing card ? I insisted that they terminate my current card and transfer my missing WW$ and points to a new card. Told them that it is pretty standard practice when such thing is reported by customers similar to lost/stolen credit card.

      • +2

No they issued new card…still new $20 gone. unbelievable….their system has been compromised they don't want to accept that.

        • +2

This is unbelievable and bad indeed!! They won't and can't accept an IT breach without full investigation and PR containment plan (if investigation confirmed it) to avoid opening a can of worms…compliance process, policy as a public listed entity. The cost of delayed action could be costly for WW.

        • @F1ngolf:

You do realize that because so many people misused the promotion, that they can just say that it's part of their plan to void the entire promotion and thus any credits lost would not be replaced. Besides, as many of the above posts mentioned, people actually delivered the cards to other addresses other than their own. Just my 2 cents, and that people complaining they lost value on multiple cards weren't supposed to have that many cards to begin with.

I feel it's more of an internal act, considering that so many people complained of card value being redeemed at KingsGrove, like theoretically how can someone redeem hundreds of cards (assuming that those that speak up are just 10% of people) in a day without drawing attention to themselves.

        • @rispwaker2: I don't believe and can't imagine that WW as a public listed organisation would void the promo by "redeeming" the $20 themselves without a common official explanation for doing so; doesn't matter if explanation is reasonable or acceptable by those who are affected. This is basic PR good practice. Furthermore, for my case, the $20 was redeemed at Hurstville on 14 July and then some points was credited due to groceries purchase on 15 July at Parramatta. This is not likely to be an internal deliberate act. A breach in the IT system would easily have redeemed the $20 on hundreds of cards. You don't need to have someone to redeem the $20 physically at the store.

        • +1

          update

after losing $20 twice they credited my account with $20. and of course refuse to accept their system is compromised. given all experiences here knew that would disappear as well. so I changed my redemption settings to 'Save for Christmas'so money can not be spent before Christmas time. Went into store did my shopping and at checkout using mobile changed my Redemption settings back to what it was and bingo it worked….I suggest if you still have money left better do this to workaround it…

  • I'm also curious as to those who mentioned that their 5000 points were converted to qantas dollars from their account, has WW given an official reply or has their points been reinstated yet?

    • Mine's still gone.

      • Did you follow up with WW though?

  • +1

Total fail, this is not some small shop, this is the largest retailer in the country. And how are they dealing with it? By ignoring the issue and not commenting. I only hope Aldi will keep taking over their business. If you come up with a promotion you first need to insure you are able to deliver it.

  • Contacted Woolies as well, had 2 cards - one for me and one for my dad. One was $20.00 exactly at Kingsgrove, and the other was an actual spend at Box Hill.
This guy better lawyer up because I hope Woolies hits him like a train.

    • Well a crook will steel. Nothing unusual about that. What is not up to the standard is the behavior of Woolworth's. Firstly they still haven't come out with a statement about this. Zero transparency. Then, this is not only stealing, this is also people not getting points at all to which they were entitled to and transferring people's points to Qantas points without any request from the points' owners and without even providing a Qantas rewards number.
Far from being only an issue of stealing this is a disgrace for Woolworth's. Any respectable customers should boycott them if only we didn't have a duopoly in Australia, and even a monopoly in majority of suburbs Woolworth's being the only supermarket for miles around.

      • The great geographical distances between addresses and rendemptions should be flagged you'd think

        • +1

And you think they have the ability to flag it? We are talking about a company which pushes staff to skimp on 2 cent plastic bags, pushes its suppliers to bring down margins and wait a long time for payments… Woolworth's is a sickly obese giant that pushes everyone around and spits on every part of the chain it profits on. I can only hope that it will soon be shut down like Franklins.

  • +3

Wow quite a mess, good one Woolworths!

  • +3

    someone used mine at northland

    Northland (East Preston)
    19 July

    $26.00

I'm not even in AU on that day :(

Can't even contact them since it's a fictional name lol

    • LOL +1 for the fictional names.

      • LMAO I DID THE SAME
But I contacted them, and just reiterated the name and birthday I used upon signing up. They just ask at the beginning of the chat as a routine check.

  • same here, points have been used in NSW

i guess only internal person can access the card number before us.

Lets guess, this time, who to blame:

    1. printing company

    2. outsourced IT

    3. ….

    4 ….

    • I saw various versions of this comment.

I can't believe it's been 2 years since the incident you linked to in one version of the comment.

Woolworths might end up losing lots of money over this issue as well but I'm guessing not as much as last time.

  • +2

    Ah, makes sense now.
Wollies lost a couple of million dollars to these thieves. To compensate, they'll phase out plastic bags.

  • +3

Take care guys, they might be flagging accounts now.

I went shopping at lunchtime and I saw two cases of people at the checkout with staff all around them having their cards and receipts carefully checked. It was to do with WW rewards issues. They seemed to be pretty serious about it (3 people surrounding shopper) the same as they would for a shoplifter. Two cases in one shop!
You should have seen this Indian guy backpedaling and trying to look for "the email" on his phone, he was shitting a brick lol.
Anyway, if you signed up your Uncle Fred/cat/budgie etc you might want to be careful

    • Just curious what were they asking of that poor guy to prove that the account is his. Don't think they'd invade his privacy just to find out if the points were his or his uncle/pet/doll's.

      • +1

Dont know sorry. It was definitely something to do with WW points because I heard them say "the 2000 points" while going over his receipt while he was scrambling on his phone. Meanwhile another bogan lady was getting similar treatment with her receipt and the dominant older check out lady came over too and they were calling for more staff on the PA.
Phew! it was like they had a directive to get serious. It reminded me of people who get stopped by the ticket inspectors. Anyway it was lunchtime and only after I left I realised what they had been doing.

    • If they had physical cards, wouldn't it be a sign that they are legit? They did give their actual address and actually received a card.

So WW is now harassing people who legit signed up?

From what I have read here, it seems the issue is more people fishing for numbers via WW App, then redeem via Stocard on their phone.

Thinking about it, this problem applies to all accounts, not just the ones signed up to 5000 points. So how do they flag them exactly?

    • was he using self checkout or with a checkout person?

    • Which woolies?

    • Lolz we were mentioned. So it's more like they got the news from us ^^

      • +3

Not too smart of the article writer to virtually give instructions to other low-lifes about how to do it. Woolies have probably shut it down now.
Seriously though, five star/ 10 out of 10 incompetence award to the genius' at Woolworths. How can they screw up a points system so magnificently TWICE! Amazing.

      • Its suprising that some journo is still following a month old ozbargain deal, and going through the comments to pick up this story.

    • +2

In a statement, a Woolworths spokesman said the supermarket was “monitoring customer feedback”. “Although our investigation shows there is no issue with the functionality and security of the app, we are reviewing how the app experience can be better improved to provide further assurances for customers,” he said.

This is the highlight part of the article.

      • Talk about a spin doctor. This is 180 degrees spin.

      • +1

I noted that my Woolies Money App is OFFLINE since a couple of days ago; one of the actions from the App experience review? Are you guys seeing the same with your Money App ?

  • +1

Customer service cancelled my card after the theft, reapplied the missing points to a new card and sent it out to me. Once again the points where stolen before i received the card. Im in SA and now have had my points stolen at Merrylands, Matraville and Chullora. WTF

  • mine got hacked as well
some spent, some converted to QFF

    • QFF converted points can certainly be tracked to the QFF account it is going to.

  • I noted that my Woolies Money App is OFFLINE since a couple of days ago; one of the actions from the App experience review? Are you guys seeing the same with your Money App ?

    • one of the actions from the App experience review?

I haven't done an app experience review (don't even know what that is tbh). But yeah my app is working fine for the last few days.

      • What I meant- Is having the WW reward cards details like points earned, fuel vouchers Offline one of the actions from WW App experience review? On my App, the WISH gift cards details Online and working fine. It is the reward card details that is Offline.

        • hmm interesting yeah I just checked.. my 2 woolies cards are offline but the points do update and shows up the fuel discounts.

  • +3

Old card withdrawn, new card issued, bonus points added🎉
    I hadn't made any complaint.

After EDR cards were offline days ago in Money app & new Privacy Policy emails were sent - knew something was up. At least now Woolies Money should be harder to steal.

Lack of EDR card security must have cost Woolies a small fortune. And an inconvenience for us.

    Email from Woolies:

    • Interesting, but I didn't get one for my card, an old one. So did this system upgrade only affect these new cards with the 5k bonus points.

Hmm thats interesting, I will see if i got this tonight
