Can we still get free wifi on Telstra Air with Prepaid?

I got Telstra Prepaid card. Just activated but no plans selected. Its just spare phone.

I am slightly confused on how to get Telstra Air. I can see that in my wifi. I used app to connect. But no internet.

Is it only for post paid mobile? Or do I need to recharge on some minimum plan (I guess $30 for 6 month)?

Anyone has had success using it?

I think you should be able to. Sign up for an account with Telstra and login using that. https://id.telstra.com.au/register

When you are connected to the Telstra Air AP, there should be a gateway page prompting you to login using your Telstra ID. If the gateway page doesn't come up, open up your phone internet browser and try to go to www.google.com.au, it should redirect you to the gateway page.

    • Thanks. Perhaps that is it. I didn't realise i have to register separately. Hopefully that works,

Not sure if this is still relevant, but here is an old post on the subject - Not a Telstra Customer, but Want Access to Telstra Air? Do It for $2!

    • Thanks. I did read it but it wasn't fully clear. I'll try out @geek001 and see how i go

This is my understanding: You can no longer get access to Telstra Air for just $2. You require an active service to be eligible for access to Telstra Air. Previously this wasn't strictly enforced. But now it is being enforced. In order to have an active service you need to recharge. As long as the recharge hasn't expired you can access Telstra Air.

  • Yep they seem to have changed the captive portal and validation of eligible services in the last two weeks. The thing is it can be fairly buggy too, sometimes it goes around and around in circles.

    • I gave up on this. It is totally rubbish. Managed to activate via the app. Just had to get latest version.

But never actually connects. Like you saying it is in following loop:

      a. You are in Range
      b. Connecting.
      c. Cannot connect
      d. You are in range
      e. …

It is surprisingly terrible. I expected it to be really good.
