  • Had my first MealPal lunch today from Yellow Submarine on York St, Sydney. Hawaiian Dog and Fries - no complaints! This could be the start of a beautiful lunch friendship!

    • +1

      Make sure you get the red sauce, it's not spicy.

  • +1

    I'm having it right now and no complaints! Sumo salad for $7.5

    • What size do you get and can you order premade salads? Thanks.

      • To answer my own question now that I've signed up:

        Medium / Pre-made so far.

  • Thanks for setting up the referral link properly, JSQUARED.

  • +1

    I tried laksa & burger, good experience!

  • Nice! Hope I get it!

    cant get more referals?

  • Is this AUD or USD?

    • AUD

      • How about the amazon gift card?

        • USD, amazon is NOT in Australia yet,

          thus this is free

  • Is there a list of participating restaurants and locations that can be viewed prior to signing up?

    • -1

      Check the website

    • +2

      See my comment here - let me know if you want to know other parts of the city and I can take a look for you.

  • -3

    11 lucky people will get lot's of amazon gift cards!!!

    Too bad you will get taxed 10% come July 1st on goods! Guess free is better than nothing!

  • +1

    Strange. When I tried to add my referral link it doesn't let me.

    • +1

      Same here

    • +1

      How did you get referal link?

      It is different to the invite one

      • +1

        I just emailed one from the website to myself and tried to copy it to the wiki … but it says it's already in the system

        • That link wont work, as it isnt the amazon code. I think this is targeted to people who got the email to spread the news to friends.

  • I like the idea. Can I use two meals in one day if taking a work colleague to lunch for example? That would ensure I get through the meals and don't waste them.

    • +1

      No, it's limited to one meal per day, have to order by 9:30am

  • Do the restaurants down size their portions/meals based on giving a "MealPal" meal?

    Do they give non-premium meal items?

    All it shows is participating restaurants, and not past meals

    • Lots of the restaurants in my area are running groupon deals as well, so yes, they will probably down size, etc

    • I've tried 5 different restaurants and only 1 gave a meal that I suspect was smaller or not as good as normal.

    • The meals I got were similar to what was shown in the pictures (each meal option has a photo). One restaurant was even nice enough to give me a bonus pasta on top for free.

    • Not in my experience (have used for one week so far). Probably the worst value in my opinion is top juice, you get some kind of smoothie but that's it.

  • Just signed up for this, hope to g*d the amazon gift card comes thru or the value proposition for my lunches is shot :(

    • How much are your lunches? Mines like $10-$2.

      So even at $8 it is great!

      • Check groupon - quite a few places around the city areas and the lunches work out to around $5-$8 when you stack with a coupon and cashrewards.

        • Oic.
          But the walk is far. My lunch is max 30mins. :(

        • @Turd:

          Yeah - if you have time constraints it's harder to get a cheap lunch.

          There's also lots of places that mark down their left over food after 2pm … another easy way to get a cheap lunch if you have flexibility on when you take your lunch break.

        • @sp00ker: Yeah I know I do have flex, but by 1pm my tummy is gurgling. Ive made it till 3pm once, but that's working straight 9am - 3pm LOL :)

    • As per the mod's post, it should have confirmed that you will get a $50 Amazon gift card when you got to step 2 of the sign up process.

      • Yeah, but you posted the deal 4 hours ago and I already ordered when this information was not disclosed in the deal you posted. You only added this information 15 minutes ago!

        • The link I posted originally worked. Other people who added their referral link afterwards entered the wrong code for the referral system.

  • +3

    There'll be a sht storm of angry ozb'ers if amazon gift cards don't come through

  • Bought, hope I don't regret this purchase OP.

    • +1

      My dining experiences with the food have been good, but if you're referring to the gift card, hopefully, if it doesn't come through, it could be taken up with Fair Trading, as you'd have signed up under false pretences.

      • Gotcha, thanks. Now that I've signed up. How do I get a referral code to become a referrer?

        • It came in an e-mail earlier today, so you're probably too late for this round of the referral bonus, given the bonus ends at midnight today.

  • It appears that the referral links users are receiving from MealPal when signing up now are all the same and won't give a $50 gift card, we've had some 30 people attempt to add the following 2 referral links in the past hour or so. They don't give the $50 gift card and they won't credit the user:

    invite=olHSwGgIaghxH44W
    invite=KoHjsjBRI0T3aKep

    If you see either of those 2 links when clicking through the referral system, back out and start again. Also ensure on step 2 that you see this:

    PLEASE SELECT YOUR PLAN.
    Our best Refer-a-Friend promotion yet! Join TODAY and get a $50 e-gift card!
    (edited)

    If you see this you don't have a valid referral link, click on the referral system to get a fresh link:

    PLEASE SELECT YOUR PLAN.
    Your plan will last for a 30 day cycle.

    I would delete them from the referral system but someone else will just re-add it so there is no point doing that. All other links in the system appear to be valid, just ensure on step 2 you see the $50 e-gift card being mentioned.

    • I clicked when there were 3 referals. I got like aaronlai or something, think I will get the $50?

    • Signed because I though I would get the $50 gift card but apparently I used the referal link that wasn't working as I did not get " Our best Refer-a-Friend promotion yet! Join TODAY and get a $50 e-gift card!". Why was this not fixed in the first place? Any way to cancel?

      • Nope, and Nope

      • Best to ask MealPal why they are sending out the same referral link to multiple new users and why it doesn't give any benefit; also how to cancel the membership. We've already spent some hours trying to get to the bottom of this when we saw multiple users trying to add the same link (thankfully our system doesn't allow that).

        • I already emailed them asking them to cancel my order, waste of time tbh.

        • Also, their web site does not have an option to select gluten free deals, it is a deal breaker especially for people who have a celiac disease.

        • -6

          @Victorious: I thought celiac disease was fictional, like god

        • +1

          @Victorious:

          The mealpal T&C says:

          if you are cancelling your membership and request a refund within 5 days of your initial purchase;

          So they should give a refund.

        • @sp00ker:

          Hi,

          I signed up yesterday and realised that there are no restaurants near Penrith. I cancelled my membership instantly. Can you please guide me where on their website it says that they will issue a refund within 5 days of the initial purchase. I noticed that they already put $95.88 on my credit card. Very upset about this company as they did not gave option to check details of the restaurants before signing up..

          UPDATE:
          I just received an email back from them that they will process full refund as per their T&C. Thanks

        • @ghodiyu:

          It does say Sydney CBD, Penrith is not the Sydney CBD.

        • @ghodiyu:

          mealpal.com -> terms of use link at the bottom -> clause 3c or search for 'refund'

          Very upset about this company as they did not gave option to check details of the restaurants before signing up

          They actually do, but you have to go to mealpal.com … not just click on the referal link.

          Surprised you just put your credit card details into a website like that.

        • @sp00ker:

          Yes, I agree. I made a mistake. I clicked on the referral link and it did not show me list of restaurants. I should have gone to home page and checked the list first. Anyways, thanks for pointing me to the T&Cs as I only signed up yesterday and cancelled my account today. Hopefully I will get the refund.

        • @Tom2222:

          Yes I agree. I missed that certainly. However, interesting to know that when you click on the referral link, it does not give you list of restaurants and also when you select the location, it says SYDNEY so I must have missed it. I must admit that I was rushing to it as I love amazon and did not wanted to miss the gift card. I believe I need to read better next time. Thanks Tom2222.

    • My referral link was working now, doesn't seem to be? Strange.

      Edit: Tried in a new browser window and see Our best Refer-a-Friend promotion yet! Join TODAY and get a $50 e-gift card! so it still works (though it sometimes doesn't come up in the browser?). It got removed from the referral list though? my one ends in invite=xxxxxxxxxxx

      • You entered your referral link previously as invite=tannoylai which isn't the correct format and doesn't give the $50 gift card so it was removed. I've fixed it up now for you with the correct format and tested it and works.

        Our best Refer-a-Friend promotion yet! Join TODAY and get a $50 e-gift card!

        I'll remove that code from your previous message now it's in the system.

        Thanks!

        • The format invite=tannoylai does work and was the link given from the email itself (it seems to do a redirect). Source: Mod: Removed

        • @tlai: Nice! That's the one I used! Will use this for backup when they dont give it to me

        • @tlai:

          Yes the link in the email does work and it does redirect.

          However our referral system needs the redirected link https://secure.mealpal.com/signup?invite=XXXXXXXXX , https://secure.mealpal.com/signup?invite=tannoylai doesn't work which is what was in the system.

          Once again I need to remove the link in your previous comment so we don't have referral links in the comments.

        • @tlai:

          Sorry replied above, you probably wouldn't have got notified as the system auto unpublished my comment initially.

          Thanks

        • @hamza23:

          I would have thought that the original referral link format would be used, rather than the redirected code. In that case, some people may have missed out.

        • @tlai:

          This deal post was initially made using the redirected link format, as was the original request so we used that link. We'd never seen that link until you just mentioned it in the comment (no one else used that link or the username from that link). We have 100s of programs in the referral system and we go off user information (nor are we members of MealPal to have received that email).

        • +1

          @hamza23: The redirection link in the email gives the referrer's full name, so it has potential privacy issues, which is why I used the redirected link.

    • Damn, I had one of the dodgy ones. Tried again and got a proper one. There goes a bunch of cash :(

  • +1

    Hmm the menu seletion is limited. This is crap. Gonna request a refund

    • It's one meal per restaurant per day.

      I don't mind as I can easily walk to 15 different places so that's still plenty of choice.

      • Lucky you, I can maybe do 3 or 4 but with 30min lunch it sucks

        • I guess it all depends where work is located. Gets a little sparse around the edges of the cbd.

    • Where can you see the menu? Thanks

  • Is the gift card in AUD or USD?

    • I have contacted MealPal. Those who choose the Coles gift card will get a $50 AUD voucher; those who choose the Amazon gift card will get a $50 USD voucher.

  • Could someone screen cap the menu around Sydney CBD? Much appreciated.

    • +1

      Menu changes every day so very difficult. The website / app has two options - the map only shows you location dots (which you click to see what's on offer) and the list option shows you large pictures of the meal. There's no easy way to share the information!

      Which part of the city are you in?

      I can list a few places so you get an idea.

      Westfield
      * sake jr
      * Charlie and co
      * Zeus Street Greek
      * fratelli famous

      Chifley
      * poku
      * top juice
      * ella blues
      * chicken confidential
      * the gardens

      MLC
      * zilia
      * sumosalad
      * gozleme Co
      * bun me

      • Thanks for the reply.

        Yeah, location I can see (I'm around Australia Square). More curious what the portions are like, how many healthy food choices there are, how much variety. E.g. SumoSalad pre-made salads are kinda unhealthy but the made-on-the-spot ones tend to be quite good.

        Found this for an example in-app for Sydney:

        https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DBuMGv1UIAIivUC.png:large

        Anyway, gonna take the offer up in any case. $5 effective per meal has gotta be worth it even for small-ish portions.

    • +1
  • If I signup now, will I be able to refer friends for the $50 bonus?

    • +1

      No

  • +1

    Thought I'd share my experience, I've used it for a week.

    The good
    * not waiting in line to pick up your food
    * $8 (or $7.50) cost for otherwise more 'expensive' lunches
    * feels personal because the restaurants have it set aside under your name

    Neutral / things to note
    * no substitutions on meals
    * having to walk to pick up your lunch, but I find it's not a problem because your food is waiting for you there (ie, no wait time)
    * you nominate a 15 minute window in which you pick up your lunch. In my limited experience it's not a problem to pick it up a bit later, but obviously it'll be cold.

    The bad
    * having to order within the 5pm prev day-9:30am same day window
    * not finding something you like (this hasn't happened yet for me)
    * can only order one meal per day (so you can't share with a friend
    * I assume if you can't eat your meals within the 30 days your credit expires

  • +1

    Remember to cancel auto-renewal unless you're okay with getting dinged for the full second month when it rolls around.

    Also noticed they offer a "Flexi Plan" when you go to turn off auto-renewal in-app: 12 meals that never expire, but $8.49 per meal (as opposed to $7.50 or $8).

  • I got an email today about the first month being 40% off but when I signed up by clicking through, I was charged full price. Did anyone else have this problem?

  • @Easton, thanks, used your referral (coz I ain't a hater, just an appreciator). Hope we get our $50 voucher soon in a month yeh :)

    • Thanks for that, ichigogogo. I hope so, too.

  • I got an email last week offering $40 credit to a meal plan on sign up. The meals worked out to be about $5.49 each. So far the selection hasn't been too bad (I'm on the south eastern edge of the CBD service area).

    The thing that I wasn't too sure about was on the "pay now" page it didn't clearly display the total that was going to be charged to your card.

    After my cycle ends, I will probably move onto the 12 meals with no expiry plan.

  • There's no indicator on the website or app of how many friends you've referred, is there?

  • Is this expired? Either Amazon gift card or 40% off?

  • +1

    Got an email. It's $50 Coles gift card now.

  • +1

    If you signed up with a correct referral link, you should have received an e-mail this morning asking whether you want to stick with the Amazon gift card or alternatively, switch over to a Coles gift card instead.

    How awesome is this ozbargain site? i have taken advantage of lots of bargains already.

    now this. i never really understood how this referral stuff worked. after a got the refer-a-friend email from mealpal, then saw the deal on here, i put 2 and 2 together, and found that it equals 50.

    i got the email from menu pal that i'm getting a $50 coles gift card, which i think is awesome.

  • Referral promotion has been extended to Friday. Please mark deal as active.

    • yep, should mark deal as active. i got the refer-a-friend email today, which goes till friday. i compared the links in the 2 refer-a-friend emails (the one yesterday and the one today), and they are identical links. so the links from yesterday will still work.
