ASUS RT-AC88U Wireless Router $246.99 USD (~ $335.68 AUD) @ GearBest

80

Hi all,

First time posting. Looking for routers for NBN FTTP in September and decided on this model.

Found this flash sale with GearBest. I think they have targeted sales on here before.

Hopefully this is a good sale and offer for everyone - and can somebody please confirm this is correct hardware for NBN FTTP?
Thanks all!

You better get it from local seller for warranty support

Probably wait for another eBay 15% off site wide offer or 20% off PC Byte/ Futu Online/ Sydney Tech

    • Good thinking 99 - got time up my sleeve, shouldn't rush into these things…

      • Australian stock comes with 3 years of Replacement Warranty, you never know when you need it.

Yup. I had an RT-N56U that crapped out just a couple of months before the three year mark. Ended up with a credit for the full purchase price which went towards… an RT-AC88U. So far it's been flawless, glad I have local warranty.

and australian power pack not EU or US…..

good advice, considering its a device that runs 24/7

    • Unless your devices break a whole lot more than mine it's cheaper to avoid paying extra for warranty and replace it if required.

    • Can't forget that $30 EOFY cash back!

  • Just a note, the EFTPOS gift card/cashback offer is only applicable if you've purchased from an authorised Australian reseller.

    • Thanks mods - that was one of my concerns being an international seller.
And appreciate the revision to the sale - still learning.
      Cheers

  • Excellent router, not sure about the buy internationally as many have said. I've kept my eye out for the router to drop sub-$300. Posted a deal not long ago approaching very close to the sub-$300 mark (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/311146). I think it has been under $300 once but again unsure about how good that seller was.

  • I'm using the Asus rt-ac66u with my fttp connection - works fine so this should be sweet.

  • Hi, we are getting "nbn™ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)*." In October, anyone have a link to good modems for this tech? Anyone know if u can pay to have the install upgraded to fttp? (and how much round about)?
    Cheers

    • they supply the modem as part of install and maintain it to that point ……. take the ethernet from that and plug it into your favourite wifi router…… i haven't been offered the option to get fibre ….. i'd pay a few hundred dollars for the upgrade,

  • $246.99 USD for a Router? Does it do song and dance?

seriously why so expensive compared to sub 200 aud ones

    • Does it do song and dance?

People should be allowed to pay a high price for biological damage at home, to match what they get at school & work. One needn't always settle for 'pedestrian' biological damage at the 50 dollar mark. Bathe in those microwaves in style. You deserve it.

Reasons for buying a dearer router could include:
      *More configuration options
      *Faster switching/routing
      *Better QoS implementation
      *1Gbps ethernet
      *Improved WiFi performance
      *Print and/or file server functionality

I cant comment though on how well this router fulfils any of that though…

marketing …… even cheap ones for dual band do both 2.4 and 5gkz and no end devices transmit on 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time eg phones tablets or pcs….. it's one or the other ….. i just use a $150 now and sold the $250 ones i had eg asus 68.

also hard to get pci cards that would keep up with these routers ….

if you look at the size of the chip and heat sink on a pci card to get ac1900 ….. not sure how they fit that into a phone or tablet ……

      • It's about overall speed not necessarily individual speed. For 1 person it may be a bit overkill but if you have many people using it with multiple devices each, it adds up and slows everything down.

Also speed of processor is important if you are running a VPN on the router. Firmware is also important. Asus firmware is excellent and Merlin makes it even better.

  • this router is the king. its runing the 20+ devices ive got connected to it like a boss
