Recommend Me Reverse Cycle Aircon Split System (Good & Cost Effective)

Hello everyone,
I have been thinking to install heating/cooling split system in living area + one of the rooms in the house. Wondering if you guys enlighten me with your experience/knowledge about couple of questions I have for my bargain fellows.

a. Since we have 20% off on ebay, is it good time to buy split system from ebay(Good guys or Harvey Norman)?
b. Recommend me a good brand.

Also, I am thinking to place an ad on hi5 to get some installation quotes?

Does the plan sounds good to you? Any recommendations appreciated….

UPDATE: EBAY Discount is 20$ not 20%. Sounds like I need to leave this for the moment.

  • 20% off across eBay ?? What's the discount code ?

  • be sure to buy the right size air con for the room you plan to install it in.

    a. perhaps use price hipster to see past prices and compare it to net price you can get it for now.
    b. popular brands are: Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Daikin (don't think you can get this from those two retailers mentioned).

i believe a back to back installation should cost you around $500 - 600.

    • Thanks Bob for a quick reply.
Wondering what is preferable & whats the benefits of back to back installation vs the other type?

      • it's basically a simple install, where the indoor unit is on one side of the wall and the outdoor unit is on the opposite wall.

not sure what the benefits are but my assumptions are: cheaper install cost which is probably the biggest factor, less piping length required.

Be sure to check out for suppliers who provide cash backs on purchasing their units. Fujitsu and Panasonic had the promo about 3 months ago.

        • Thanks mate. Much appreciated.

    • There are other factors besides room size that you have to take into account.
      - Windows
      - Insulation
      - East facing
      - Top floor or not

So if you buy too small (low kW then it will struggle to cool/heat).

The cons of a bigger one are higher initial cost, larger external and internal units but the energy used is very similar as long as it is an inverter (very energy efficient at lower kW).

  • That's $20 not 20% !!

    • You are absolutely right. I misread it.
Well in that case I may need to hold on for a bit for this transaction.
      Thanks for your reply mate.

  • +1

Bad luck you are in Vic otherwise 15% off Bing Lee which has competitive prices.

  • I picked up a Panasonic 7kw on one OzBargain deal. It's awesome and currently warming me nicely (could also be the wine). Cost me $500 to get the fridgies in , I did the wiring and poured the slab so that saved me. All up cost around $1900. Was quoted $2500
