    Is it a SMR drive?

  • Looking for a good 8TB for ps4. Anyone's had the opportunity to use one they would recommend?

I've had Two of these fail on me (one ~90 hours use, the other ~260 hours) in the past 6 months. Seagate have been great with prompt RMA, but still annoying to plug in a POS HDD and find it's partition table unreadable / corrupt for no apparent reason.

All attempts at re-partitioning the drive in Windows / Linux ended in failure, as the drive enters some weird zombie mode.

The Third replacement is working OK for now, but I wouldn't buy another one or keep anything on important on it.

  • Anyone got one of these and can comment on noise? I want to plug one into my Mac 24/7 to use as a Time Machine drive, but previous 3.5" drives have been way too noisy. Currently using a 1TB Seagate Slim 2.5" that's almost silent, don't want anything much louder than that.

    • I have couple of those and they are quiet when not in use (i.e, standby, but still rotating), but once writing they can get noisy. Reading is ok, reasonably quiet. The writing to the disk is the noisy bit. I am happily using it with my Nvidia Shield as I write to the disk only occasionally and usually not during the time I watch the movies from it.
Any reason why people are so happy about this price when quite regularly these are for USD$179+$8 shipping on Amazon?
