Seeking: Large Dog Kennel to Support TWO Labradors!

So I've got my dogs their outdoor bed, now I'd love to give them a warmer place for when the weather gets cold. Their combined weight is 60kg, which has been a problem when I've been looking at larger dog kennels.

It's no good me trying to find two seperate, smaller kennels for them, as they will just try to squeeze into one together.

Hoping to find any product - On sale or not - which is able to house my two (extra large) babies!

I have two labs - combined weight closer to 75 kilos than 60 - who will not sleep apart. I have them in a kennel from Aaron's Outdoors.

You can see it in the link - largest kennel pictured. I can't recall the price but it wasn't cheap - that being said we have had it now for about five years and it hasn't been chewed or damaged in any way. We have a thick piece of foam off cut, covered in shade cloth which is quite resistant to being chewed, wedged into the base of the kennel as a mattress. It is a tight fit for them but it works.

We have our kennel under the pergola outside the back door so it is out of the weather. The lift off roof makes me wonder how well it would stand up to heavy rain.

It was an assemble yourself arrangement which did take two people, although it wasn't difficult.

Good luck with finding a bed for them. Mine would most definitely prefer to be on my bed inside, but if they have to sleep outside ( which they do) will happily go to the kennel.

    • they look well built

    • Wow - these looks amazing. I'm a 6 hour drive from there nearest store, but will definitely send an enquiry. Thank you.

      • It would be worthwhile asking if they have agents in your area, although I guess nobody will get one in for you just to look at. You might find that Petstock etc are stockists - I'm not sure if they are any closer - they probably have a wider network. I know they have something similar but as I recall it was more expensive and not quite as big.

The other option that we had for a while was a large pine shipping container - a big oblong box that was really roomy. I could get inside it with the dogs! The thing was though that it was fine pine ply and the boys loved to chew it. They remodeled the door to about twice its width. I didn't want to deal with possible sharp objects in their intestines. It wasn't waterproof either, but it you can get one you could paint it with external paint. We chose not to because of the chewing factor, and again because we had it undercover.

        good luck

        • Thanks heaps for your help! Can I ask where you found the container? I may try to acquire one if possible!

        • @CustardShot: it was advertised in our local paper - somebody had managed to get a heap of them - I think they were importing farm machinery - and had re-purposed them as animal kennels. I'm not sure that anybody would have them advertised as kennels but you might be able to think a bit about who might be importing machinery etc and see if you can find any leads from there.

a house a sydney will be all you need.

  • If you know anyone handy they aren't too hard to build a simple one custom to the size you want. I had someone do that.
