Yeah. Logitech Z906 5.1 Speaker.
Cheapest I've ever seen it.
Would totally get this, but I have spent too much money as of late. :(

That is good sound surround 5.1 speakers.
HDMI gate is good for displaying, optical gate good for the sound system.
Additionally to this, HDMI pass-through doesn't always pass the decoding correctly.
For example, if I go from my PS4 to my Logitech Z5500 (the predecessor to the Z906?) then it correctly sees Dolby or DTS decoding over optical. If I let my TV get the signal via HDMI pass-through and then output to the speakers by optical it only reads as a stereo signal. (And no, it's not the TV, as it correctly outputs other Dolby / DTS content, e.g. videos played from USB)
Given a choice I'll always prefer optical over HDMI for sound.
I'm pretty sure that's not an issue with HDMI. It's possible that your TV doesn't support Dolby/DTS input through HDMI.
@ccsvchost: Maybe, and I've thought that before. Samsung specifically mentions DTS and Dolby in their FAQ on Pass-Through though, but that might apply to newer TVs than mine. Might have a Google when I get home.
I think the difference is a lot of TV's wont handle DTS/Dolby from a HDMI source to a receiver via optical as this requires some form of decoding/signal manipulation which in turn requires a vendor license. This differs from your TV playing content locally and simply passing through a DTS/Dolby signal untouched to a receiver via optical. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@aTTilaz: Ahh, but HDMI in to HDMI out (i.e. actually Pass-Through) would be fine. That makes sense.
@beeawwb: Yep I believe that's the case :)
@aTTilaz: Further research seems to confirm it. Thanks! :)
@beeawwb: Happy to help
Do you know of another 5.1 system with HDMI input at this price point?
In my opinion, that price for Logitech Z906 is affordable.
It is the best choice for home theater and gaming. You can go for another 5.1 system such as LG or Samsung but their sound is not good enough (based on my experiences).
You also search for Yamaha, Onkyo, Pioneer but their price is painful.
These are decent. You wont find a complete set of speakers with these specs for under 300. (DTS, Dolby, heaps of inputs)
I 100% recommend these.
Have this for my home theatre. Insane sound quality!
isnt this intended for PC setups not HT?
Can't see why they would be different.
This set is tuned and THX certified for near-field listening (within 1 metre of the speakers). Of course it will work in a HT setting, just that it won't sound its best. http://blog.logitech.com/2015/04/23/wondering-what-thx-certi…
@alvian: Cool thanks for the info. My living room is quite small, so this set really suffices. To be honest, it is a bit too powerful - I have never really been able to bear anything above half its volume dial.
you have a pretty low bar for 'insane' sound quality.
I mean, it's better than that speaker I made out of a tissue box and fishing wire I guess. Or having a hobo shout out lines of dialogue. Maybe if you had 5.1 hobos.
I'm still using my Logitech x540 for the last 10 years and it still works fine.
Apparently the Z906 is a newer model of it so I'm just gonna pass.

Not to say that it was bad or anything, I just think the extra controls, inputs and rehash are unnecessary to me.
I'm still using my Logitech Z-5500, purchased maybe 7 years ago…….. still awesome speakers and sound and bass!
When it dies, ill def. buy another 5.1 logitech model
Same here! I still consider the Z-5500 the best ever Logitech speakers. They still command 200+ on eBay.
This or Voll B44?
voll is great for a clean minimalist PC experience.
i think ppl are loving this for the Bass
sound quality wise B44 beat this hands down?
Go for the price match/beat @ around $285
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/logitech-s…
Has been significantly cheaper at $240 mark - would wait for price to drop below that.
This is true! I paid ~$250 in the older DSE sales but they did go down to about $240 mark at Officeworks a little while ago. I saw this on the pricehipster home page but decided not to post it because it has been far cheaper in the past.
Was $240 at TGG in late Jan as well - I think as a discontinued product there may be more discounts soon… at least hoping for that to be the case!
No one was able to get it for 240 at GG though. I was one of the people looking for one at the time. I was willing to buy it for up to 300 but couldn't get my hands on it, eventually i just bought it used. The last time it got below 300 was when DSE was around, and this was 2 years ago. So unless you are willing to wait a few more years I'd probably just go for it.
Guess that puts it more into context - thanks!
This is one of the few THX certified speakers, sound quality is one of the best I have ever had from any speakers.
Definitely a bargain price as I bought them for around $500 4 years ago.
Here is the link for THX if anyone interested.

You linked to the soundbar certification. The Z906 is THX certified as a multimedia system. See also: http://blog.logitech.com/2015/04/23/wondering-what-thx-certi…
This is one of the few THX certified speakers
THX Multimedia is utterly meaningless and just means someone faxed off their Visa card to Old Man Lucas Razer.
sound quality is one of the best I have ever had from any speakers
Have you ever heard real speakers, like… ever? Because that's a silly claim.
Unless you are deaf. That would make sense, because you wouldn't have heard any other speakers I guess. So maybe?
Riiiight, because as a deaf person he would be able to hear these ones then…
Presumably these speakers sent him deaf. Because he couldn't handle the super amazing quality, obv.
Decent speakers. Have the predecessor (Z-5500).
Great bang for your buck but bear in mind that these do not have HDMI. It can be tricky getting 5.1 audio into them as not a lot of devices use optical these days.
This may fix that issue

I've been using these on my PlayStation systems for years. Awesome for this price.
I might start think about studios monitor when the price is almost 300..
I recommend the Logitech Z623 for anyone after a good set of stereo speakers (also on sale). Just ordered by second set.
Thanks OP for the heads up!
What is so good about this speaker? It does not seem to have HDMI
