Been looking around for a cheap 6Gb phone for a while now.

Saw this bargain popup today.

For $243 AUD you get a phone that has;
-Android 7.0
-6GB of RAM
-64GB of internal memory
-A Helio P25

I can't fault a brand new phone at this price.
I've used Banggood before to buy a Lenovo Zuk Z2 but this seems far superior.

Also chatted with live chat and everyone gets the 'bonus pre-oder package' that includes;
-case
-condom (lol)
-fidget spinner (lol)

Note: HD screen, no Band 28,notification led.

Bargain? It could be the worst phone ever produced. Who knows until it gets released and reviewed.

    • +1

Sure it might be. But with hardware like that and a brand that isn't totally unknown you're getting bang for your buck.

      • +1

keen to know how it goes! Hope it's as good as it looks on paper :)

      • +1

Got could always gamble on the MAZE Alpha. It's exactly the same but even cheaper and with a 1080p screen.

        http://www.mazemobile.com/maze-alpha-subscription

        • +1

This looks good. However I'd more happily give my money do Doogee given they have some brand backing and Banggood states it comes with a 1Yr warranty.

        • After a bit more digging the Maze only has 3GB ram rather than 6GB

          http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_621633.html?wid=11

        • @busymoddingskyrim: That's a different phone.

        • @KLoNe:
The link on the Maze website is for the blade, not the alpha. The alpha is $277ish at gearbest so this is still a "better" deal.

        • @Test Tickles: actually, maze alpha is not even on sale yet. The price on gearbest is probably indicative only.

    Dodgy Mix?

    • Funnily enough it's such a mixture of the Xiaomi Mix and regular running phones that this is probably an appropriate nickname!

  • Why do you want 6GB of RAM?

    • +5

to cache every single app I ever open

      • The CPU can handle?

    • 6G ought to be enough for anybody

  • +1

Stick in hole Feel the world

  • Andriod?

  • +1

    Title should say 5.5".

  • -1

The condom is a courtesy after you being (profanity) over

    • +1

It's no good using it after :p

  • Is there anyway to verify it is true 6gb of Ram? What's to stop manufacturers selling fake hardware?

    • Reputation mostly. Whilst they are smaller players in the international market they do have a domestic market presence.

    • I'm sure applications exist that aim to fill RAM and test it's speed if you're sceptical.

  • Does this have a notification led?

  • +1

    The screen isn't even 1080p

    • likely to save a lot more battery life IMO anyway

      • yeah but how come no other company needs to make that sacrifice?

it has good specs but you cant accept that with only 720p…

        • because it's not ips lcd & 1080p amoled is too exp for budget phone manufacturer

        • yeah but how come no other company needs to make that sacrifice?

          ????????

Different priorities? Does a 1440p screen or longer battery life sound flashier to you?

        • -3

then enjoy your 720p then… i mean its just 2017 after all

you can always put your money where your mouth is and buy it, i bet none of you will though

  • +1

looks like it is not 1080p. but with a summing almond 720P screen, and 93% screen/body ratio, makes it more attractive than the expensive Xiaomi Mi Mix.

    • +2

      summing almond?

      • samsung AMOLED. sorry for mine typo.

      • +1

I couldn't stop laughing to this. My wife started to hit me for me to shut up.

        • i tried to hold myself from scrolling down for answer and used every brain cells to decipher the typo with common sense but still failed :(

        • Maybe Ask Siri? The auto correction keyboard from iPhone always gives us surprises.

  • 3784 Pre-orders and it's almost sold out. Might think about it the price is below $150.

  • +1

Asked TechTablets on youtube to review this when it came and he said he would check it out so hopefully a review is not to far away

And a free condom makes this a winner

    • +2

And a free condom makes this a winner weiner

    • I'm waiting for his review too. At this stage looks like it could go either way with this handset. Processor is Mediatek (I don't like) but could be ok after all. Screen and battery life concerns me though.

  • +3

Doogee is one of the most reputable and solid Chinese cellphone producers. Using their phones since a long time. Never an issue.

    • -1

Lucky you, bought what seemed to be an excellent spec phone on pre order and the screen sensitivity was so poor in a certain region of the screen it was near useless. Doogee is dodgy.

      • Because of one bad egg in the basket, blaming the whole brand? Not really wise. Can happen with ANY brand and ANY range of goods. Speaking about Samsung, does it mean the whole brand is bad? Definitely not.

        • Regardless, prior experience warrants consideration especially in context of a presale model without any reviews and the dreadful manufacturers support for the issues.

    • +1

It's run by some brilliant young guy who finished medical school and qualified as a doctor at 14 years of age or something. There was a TV series about him a few years ago.

      • Haha from medicine to making phones… This guy is going to make a difference, one dogee phone at a time.

  • +2

I was interested until i saw mediatek :(

    • Have you had troubles with Mediatek in the past? I'm keen to know more.

      • Should be fine, I haven't heard anything 'bad' about them, just that they're not as 'good' as Qualcomm SoC's, but that shouldn't matter to anyone.

I don't think Mediatek release any information to the public though so that's why there's hardly any development on firmware/ROMs or kernels for Mediatek devices if you're interested in that.

      • No custom ROMs for them (or 'less-than-complete' ROMs).
So when the vendor doesn't provide any updates (which they won't), you can't look at lineageOS (previously CyanogenMod), or any of the other major ROMs.

These Chinese brands are (mostly) fine, but without community ROMs, the factory OS is usually buggy, packed with ad and/or spy-ware and don't receive updates.

        • So the "chinese brands" whatever they are are usually fine but apparently "fine" is usually shipping with buggy operating systems or malware.

Also I have never used a third party ROM that was more stable or faster than stock.

        • @Diji1:

Do you really need someone to explain what is meant by 'Chinese Brands'? These phones are from China.
And yea, I have ordered dozens of these brands, and while the hardware is usually comparable, the default ROM is usually terrible.

This is sent from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, running current LineageOS. A significantly better experience over the MIUI OS that came stock.

    Made in China

    • +5

Just like the device you typed that on.

    • +6

Yeah! That's why you only buy Australian made mobile phones…

  • +1

Small correction, when you say "Gb" you are saying Gigabit, not Gigabyte.
If you want to use the abbreviation of Gigabyte it is "GB", otherwise you are understating the size of the memory/nand by a factor of eight.

  • Why do they make a phone with good specification i.e. RAM / Memory, but with such a poor screen resolution.

    • -1

      this is Doogee's "thing"

I dont think they make an FHD phone.

    • I don't think you understand how little difference there is between 1280x720 and 2560x1440 on a 5.5" screen.

There is no difference in functionality. There is a small difference in image quality.

Remember 6 years ago when everyone was saying how retarded 1920x1080 on a 5.5" screen was?

      • +1

There is a significant difference between 1280x720 and 1920x1080, 2560x1440 is another step up. I have all three resolutions and there is a significant difference. After using 2560x1440 for some time now, i can't even go to 1920x1080, forget 1280x720

  • Is the condom limited edition too. Classic and all phones should be marketed like this. Especially HTC with their new U11

    • +1

You dont need a condom when you are trying to impress with a repulsive HTC U11..

  • +3

Honestly.. I'd take the ZUK Z2 over this any day. The Snappy 820 kills the Mediatek P25. It would take them a P30/P35 (unreleased next gen) to match the SD820 in pure processing and graphics.

  • +2

6gb ram without good software optimization is useless

  • -1

FYI I'm refunding my order. Just found out it used Micro USB and NOT usb-c. What a joke.
