  • I saw $4.98 pickup and HDMI, and thought, "Yea, that's alright".. but to double it for delivery is not.

Then I had a look at what HDMI 1.4 was (never even knew it existed).. and it seems decent. So at $4.98 it seems to be a steal, and at $8.96 it seems to be a bargain.

Only problem for me is, I can't find any use for it right now =( wonder if I should just get one now for the future, just like you did haha. But thanks for posting, didn't know about HDMI 1.4. That 3D capability sounds awesome.

Oh and just a question. Ethernet with HDMI? =S So HDMI now doubles up as a cable to connect to the Internet too? I think I might be misunderstanding something.

    • So HDMI now doubles up as a cable to connect to the Internet too? I think I might be misunderstanding something.

Nope, your understanding is correct. It is a new feature in the latest version of the HDMI spec, though at the moment there are no devices that use this feature yet.

On a related note, this is a great deal if you are able to pick up (bought two myself for pick up). If you have to factor in shipping then it's still okay, though places such as GoodBargain.com.au have had free shipping deals for HDMI v1.4 cables in the past.

    • FYI

Current high speed HDMI 1.3 cables will support 3D video and Audio Return Channel(ARC).

If your current cables are high speed 1.3(most are) the only thing you would need new cables for would be ethernet over HDMI when devices are available to support it.

      • Isn't that only HDMI v1.3c ? I don't think HDMI v1.3b support ARC or 3D.

Also, from where can you pick up? I can't find this on the site.

+1 from me, I bought two to go with my new 3d Samsung i bought the other day :)

Nope all HDMI 1.3 cables will work fine with 3D and ARC, the a/b/c revisions are minor revisions to the way testing was done, and revision "a" added modifications to the type c mini connector and some revisions to source/receiving devices, revision "b" relates to the way cables are tested and revision "c" adds support for active cables.

All revisions of HDMI 1.3 have a max total bandwidth of 10.2Gbps the same as HDMI 1.4, so any HDMI 1.3 should work if it's made to high speed spec.

Earlier revision HDMI 1.2 etc cable could also work if they have the bandwidth, the cable does not know what the info is it is sending, so as long as the cable can handle the bandwidth for 3D & ARC it does not matter which revision the cable is.
However HDMI 1.2 and below only specifies a max bandwidth of 4.95Gbps, so many cables made under this spec probably would not work for 3D & ARC, though there are some that would, so if any user has older cables and upgrades to 3D, test your existing cables first.
If your existing cables won't work with 3D then you probably need to upgrade them.

        • Thank you for the clarifications! I am currently using HDMI v1.3b cables and the Audio Return function isn't working with my Sony TV and Onkyo receiver (both this year's models). I thought it was the cable, but I guess I'm going to have to dig a little.

          • @Tenebrae: I've seen a few of the new Samsung TV's they can be tricky to get ARC working, I have not seen any of the new Sony models with ARC, but most likely will be tricky as well.
Make sure the cable is plugged into a HDMI input that supports ARC on the Sony, on the Samsung TV's only one of the inputs support ARC.

  • Noob question. Can i use this cable to connect my PS3 to my Dell Monitor?>

    • Yep will work fine from PS3 to monitor.

    • Make sure your monitor has HDMI port (obviously) and an audio out port (not so obvious) since the PS3 will send both video and audio over HDMI.

      • For audio it would be best to run the audio cable straight from the PS3 to the sound system, as the monitor may restrict the PS3 to 2-channel audio over the HDMI connection, this is due to the EDID info that is supplied by the monitor to the PS3, I'm not sure how PC monitors handle audio over HDMI and what EDID info they send out, but most TV's will limit a device connected directly to it via HDMI to 2-channel audio.

For best audio quality from the PS3 it is best to use an optical cable to the sound system if it has optical inputs.

        • Cheers thanks for the info my monitor has hdmi but no audio so looks like ill have a few wires running around.

  • How thick is the cable (AWG)?

    • There aren't any AWG markings on the cable. The only markings on mine are TECOM 20276 80°C 30V VW-1 HDMI1.4 CABLE.
