  • Hm, I question the bottomless nature of this coffee.. :p

    • +18

A coffee cup with no actual bottom on it. It sits on the saucer, and can be filled with scalding hot coffee without the drinkee noticing anything otherwise.

When they lift the cup, they are burnt terribly about the legs and knees. If they complain, then you can safely say 'we always serve bottomless coffee here', and giggle.

      There's always a trap…

How dare you enquire about the specified freebie in the bargain title!

  • They're asking too many questions in their form…

    • Not really. You don't have to put your birth date if you don't want to. Other questions are common in any form. I visit Homebush Bay IKEA time to time. Don't mind getting these discounts…..even at the cafeteria.

  • Is there anything stopping you from filling the coffee cup with soft drink? I don't drink coffee…

  • This has been rolled out in Ikea in Europe some years back and it's a good deal.

I can report there was a small discount in addition to the free coffee when I did this in Northern Ireland, so hopefully a token discount for 'Ikea Family' members will apply, too. :)

" Answered my own question - a token % discount at Cafeteria plus a token charitable donation, better than nothing!

I signed up at that time in-store, so anyone planning to go flat-pack shopping?

Please report if this is also being offered at the shop entrance!

    • Yep, you can also sign up at the store entrance as well as a few kiosks throughout the store. I signed up in store last week but the printers for the temporary cards weren't working very well and the barcode on the temp cards (ie. a thermal paper docket) wouldn't scan so trying to use the card was a right PITA. It will probably be better once the real card is sent out.

    • It was shown at the shop entrance, at Rhodes IKEA store, towards the left of the escalator. But I was stuck staring and wondering what is this "IKEA family" thing. It was until i went throughout the store seeing "IKEA Family Price" and Normal, "Non-member pricing" on some items.

  • Good deal, it's a shame that IKEA coffee is TERRIBLE.

    • You can always use the cup for coke and other drinks

Bottoms up, Bottoms up… let me see your cup?

  • nice deal! :)

I have bought a few things from them in the past with awful results. Bathroom mirror started rusting straight away, cups and saucers cracking after a few uses, flatpack furniture coming away from the fixings. I guess you get what you pay for. I pity the Swedes and their push for a disposable society.

  • +3

ive done this in richmond store

    coffee is not terrible

you get a discount on some items in the store

    • The coffee used to be terrible, but but I think they changed it a while ago to a slightly more palatable one.

  • If i knew this before. I went yesterday, before i heard of this "IKEA family" thing. And only found out after I bought a few things and some coffee. But great deal!

  • Please note, IKEA stores in Perth and Adelaide do not have IKEA FAMILY yet

come on Cebas..bring this to WA+SA soon!

    • DAMN - Perth misses out again.

      • for now anyway..

        • WA and SA are not run by IKEA, but franchised so wouldnt think they would be getting the IKEA family treatment anytime soon.

  • The glass cabinet for $99 is pretty good.. RRP is $149!

  • Thanks. I applied online.

Ah, IKEA…is there anything you can't do?

^ tell your customers you design
your store so you have to walk through it perhaps? I'm sure I'm notnthe only one to get lost briefly because of this lol

      Just follow the arrows? :P

can i get hot chocolate instead of the coffee ( i don't drink coffee ) ?

    • Yes.
You can also use the cup to get coke, lemonade and other drinks

  • Does anyone know what they offer you for your birthday?

  • IKEA Richmond also allowed free Tea and hot chocolate.

  • +1

The coffee at IKEA is ok, especially when you compare it to Maccas! I love their hot chocolate too. With IKEA Family, you pretty much get a free endless top up drink as you have the coffee cup which you can get whatever you want in it. I've had coffee, hot choc and soft drink in the same cup. Just rinse it with water from the dispenser in between. I got a pretty good discount on the medium meatballs too, though there were no discounts for the lunch special, i.e. chicken schnitzel and also no discount on the chocolate mousse. Is there a list of what discounts they offer on food?

    • Agree, Ikea's coffee is not bad. Way nicer than Jetstar lounge coffee @ Gold Coast airport I had last Monday…. It's a clear sign that I should've stuck with the hot chocolate, beer or wine….

  • mmmmm ikea meatballs……

  • +1

Any discount is better than none!

  • Just got the brochure (I joined last week). They're also going to do a Nov 1 - Nov 7 "eat your discount" again, where the cost of your shopping there can be reduced by how much you spend on food (and drink?) at their cafeteria.

It's listed on a voucher though, so it may require people to join the IKEA family.

Another bonus for joining the IKEA family :)

(there's more stuff in the brochure but I haven't been through it)

    • I'm thinking of getting a chair for $400. I wonder if they'll let me get 400x $1 hotdogs? Could be interesting. :D

  • Please note, IKEA stores in Perth and Adelaide do not have IKEA FAMILY yet.

I have just joined IKEA Family and this is incorrect.

    In the email there is

    Win $250 extra pocket money.
Swipe your card to enter our weekly $250 IKEA gift card draw for FAMILY members.*

The * is for the terms and conditions http://ikeafamily.com.au/common/giftcard-promotion-terms.htm…
    They say

There will be 52 weekly draws made from each participating state ie. NSW, VIC & QLD, during the promotion period.

That is the only thing which Perth and Adelaide miss out on.

    • IKEA South Australia and Western Australia are run by a different group. They have a different website which does not mention IKEA Family.

  • There are also computers to sign up at the store, even with fake info if you want privacy well at Bris/ springwood it prints out a temporary voucher

  • We tried it at IKEA Perth and definitely not accepted. They did give us two free coffees whilst they went and double checked,
but came back with a "sorry not valid for Perth".
Come on IKEA lets make it one BIG HAPPY FAMILY!!!!!!

    • wow, they gave you free coffee anyway…that's classy :)

  • I signed up to this and still have not received my card in the mail?? From sydney.

    Anyone else got theirs?

    • I applied a day before this was published and got it a while ago

    • I haven't got mine either. Signed up the day this was posted.

      • Got it around 14 days after I signed up.

Maybe try and fill out as much of your info in as possible. ie. my profile is on 100%.

  • I got mine, today. :)
I also joined the day, it was posted.

    • I got my card about a week ago.

  • I think I left my house number out of the mailing address lol. i added it yesterday, so hopefully it turns up..
