Their extended warranty options make no sense.

After some research, I won't be touching this brand. I need quick, simple, long warranty. Seems this isn't something Lenovo can manage.

If this is how they treat people who have paid for premium warranty, imagine how they handle 'regular' customers. Piss on their faces?

      https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/On-Site-Next…

      • I had the same problem with Dell for my XPS 13.

Their "NBD On-site" dragged out to 5 months after opening the ticket, after which the technician came, fixed 1 USB port, but promptly broke the type-C, wi-fi, AND keyboard. Dell sent another technician a month later, he basically gave up and told me to ask for a replacement. Of course, they would not approve a replacement no matter what. Dragged my ticket on for another few months and whaddya know, I'm out of warranty!

Are there any laptop brands which actually honour their warranty terms?

        • get an Apple Mac mate

        • I dropped my XPS 13 and the fan started making noises. Had a tech on site replace the fan no fuss within a few days, all covered under warranty.

        • +1

@punk000: Dunno why you got downvoted, Apple are excellent with warranty and sometimes will replace your machine even outside of Apple care period.

I second issues with their 3 year next business day warranty.

After the delivery of the laptop there was an issue with my keyboard, so they sent me a new one and I had to send the old part back. Was easy to fix it myself and the part arrived the next business day.

After 2 years I wanted to claim a defect USB port and case which they did NOT want to fix. Their excuse was that: "Those parts don't break". Even after escalating the issue, no result….. the warranty wasn't of much use in the end.

      • Thanks for confirming my decision. Apple or Surface for me.

great deal for 16GB laptop, and 16GB single rank RAM is expensive.

    • agreed. I was gonna buy SP 4 but wow. this is really tempting.

    It's only a 14 inch screen

    • not only

      14" FHD Touch Screen

plus, you you can't get any more HD than FHD 😃

    • +2

      It's a good size though?

    • 14 inch for portable model is ok (13.3 better). non-IPS that what's making it not good.

Copied from above pdf (their use of word "some" is confusing?):

          Display:

Some: 14.0" (355mm) WQHD (2560x1440), glare, LED backlight, IPS,
300 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 700:1 contrast ratio (only available in US)

          Some: 14.0" (355mm) FHD (1920x1080), anti-glare, LED backlight, IPS,
250 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 700:1 contrast ratio

Some: 14.0" (355mm) FHD (1920x1080), glare, LED backlight, IPS,

        • That's good. It is important and Lenovo laptops often lack this option and it was not mentioned in the header.

Should probably add the weight (1.8kg) and battery life (claimed: 10h, so actual: ~6h) in the description

  • Is it possible to install an M2.SSD in this? I don't think the normal sized ones will be compatible though.

    • -1
      • +2

You can. I have this model and have installed a 256GB 2242 M2 drive in it. You can see the slot to the left of the ram stick and heatsink in that video.

        • Thanks for letting us know. Have you used it much for video editing?

        • @jerum3030: My mistake, the model I have is a Yoga 460, but it's an i7 with a 940m, so I can't really comment on the performance of this configuration. It should still take an m2 ssd though.

I haven't done any video editing on it, I mainly use it for uni work.

    • +2

You can fit a m2 drive but it needs to be a 42mm one, the longer m2 drives are not compatible. I've got a 512GB m2 in my Yoga 460 laptop. There's a 16GB m2 drive in the laptop already and it's easy to swap them out.

Just an FYI to those using Photoshop.

We bought this, last deal, & it's a constant issue with the included pen + Wacom tablet.

If you do tablet work at all- be sure to test it IMMEDIATELY, because Lenovo only give 14 days to return defective units.

Even then, I imagine a fight.

    You have been warned

    • What is a constant issue?

    • Sorry I don't mean to be rude/sarcastic but if it's defective can't you refer to consumer law?

      • Also isn't warranty for that and consumer law if it is out of warranty and you expect it to work a bit longer?

  • Does anyone know how much do they normally sell for?

    • +1

the website says the web price is 2,149.00.

What the fxxk is that shxtty graphics???

  • +1

    Booooo no screen upgrades

I have had it for more than a year, battery life sucks big time. 10h is a big fat lie. Will be lucky to get 2h. Too heavy for tablet usage.

Another over priced made in China brand? The only worthwhile Lenovo model is Thinkpad T series. Rest are low quality.

    • You are forgetting x1 carbon…
T series is good as well ,but a little bulky.

  • Is this available with windows 10 pro?

  • +1

had it for 3 months battery lifes gone from 7 hours to less than 4.

    • The included bloatware and bullshit is likely to blame for this.
I have a fresh minimal Win10 install and it's much better than it was out of the box.
With light use i can achieve 8+ hours, not sure if i've ever hit 10.
Web browsing and watching Youtube with brightness up at a reasonable point gets at least 5 hours.

Currently looking to get a Xiaomi Air 13 - This looks tempting but the lack of dedicated graphics is sort of a deal breaker :(

    • I am also waiting for the next deal on one - post a deal as soon as you find one!

      • Yeah, sure, will do! I'm not checking OZB as much though. Be sure to let me know as well.

        • I was gonna get xiaomi air but the reviews say they have a below average battery life. And if you need one now, u can get one for about 960 from banggoods.

        • @EnterTheShiftKey:

          XiaoMi Air 13.3

On Aliexpress, around US$711, and will be around AU$970. If buying it with 10% cashrewards, the price will be around AU$880.

I bought one from aliexpress one month ago, and DHL express shipping for free. I installed ENG WIN10 PRO directly after I received. All good yet.

        • @sunaus: Actually, banggood sends u $20 usd coupon when signing up to newsletter and combine that with 9% cashback, the prices become similar. And banggood seems to have faster shipping.

        • @EnterTheShiftKey:

Yeah, that would be similar price.

As for shipping, I donot think any difference, because of all using DHL express.

      • Hey! I'm unable to send messages as I am currently overseas. But there you go dude:

        Xiaomi Air 13 Laptop - AU$896.99

        Pay attention to shipping dates.

To a kinda review on a near identical unit (i7 + Nvidia 940).
The difference between i3/5/7 is almost nill in the notebook world, they're all dual cores limited by the same thermal environment in the notebook.

Warranty was mentioned above, have had 3 dealings with DBD onsite warranty with these machines, 1 went fine (screen swap), 1 required 3 screens (screen swap with faulty replacements being sent out) and 1 (broken USB port) dragged on for 4 months with a supply issues causing the wrong motherboard to be sent 3 times (part numbers matched, but the wrong fingerprint header was present).

All up great machines, but let down by poor warranty.
A NBD warranty should never turn into 4 months of bullshit.

  • I like deals that have inconsistent info:
    It states:

Thin and Light Design; Long Battery Life
Starting at a mere 1.8kg (3.9 lbs) and just 19mm (0.74") thick, ThinkPad Yoga 460 is ultraportable – it’s perfect for productivity on the go. And with up to 10 hours of battery life, you can go all day without recharging.

    Then later…
Battery Life2 Up to 8 hours

Their support really gets a bad rep in this post

    • I called up to get a quote to replace my keyboard as a couple of keys had fallen off. Laptop was 1 month out of warranty but they said it'd be covered by Australian consumer law. Called on a Thursday, courier picked it up the next day and I had my laptop delivered back home fixed up by Tuesday afternoon the following week.

When I first got the laptop I found a few dead pixels on the screen and returned it for a panel replacement. Got it back within a week as they had to wait a few days for the part. Had to hassle them a bit more that time around.

Overall I've had a great experience with their after sales support.

      • If it'd been so great you wouldn't have had to return it all?

        • True, but I was simply highlighting the fact I'd had a good after sales experience. It's all relative. My last laptop was an HP. So many issues. Terrible build quality. Poor after sales support.
