    LG Brand….

    • +32

I had the Nexus 5/G4/V10. LG never again.

Nexus 5 random reboots, freezes, battery drains.

      G4 bootloops, overheating.

V10 poorly supported (dual camera in front is unusable for most apps), camera module died, overheating, buggy software, bootloops.

V20 ain't too bad. Only thing I don't like about it is the size/LCD screen.

Heard the newer LG phones will move to AMOLED.

I won't dare to try LG again. Gave em 3 chances already.

      • agreed. they are way too big for some hands.

      • +1

Have they fixed the cracking camera glass issue on the V20? Or was it just hysteria. 7 incidents doesn't make a problem but I could swear I read more than 7 people complained on various boards. If the glass spontaneously cracks due to change of temp that's pretty attrocious.

        http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-v20-owners-claim-camera-g…

        • I think its gone away and not a widespread issue. I am quite rough with mine but after nearly 7 months all good.

Plus there are now replacement parts kits on AliExpress and the like.

        • It was probably 1 guy posting on 7 different places. :P

      • +4

The only LG phone I have ever owned is G Pro 2. Had it for 3 years, never once put a foot wrong. Battery still lasts basically as good as day 1. Only reason for upgrading is wife broke my screen.

I was game to give em a shot on the v20… Bought mine from Kogan though, just in case I need to use a grey warranty.

        • agree. mine is still kicking alive for few years. software is a bit outdated, otherwise a good phone for a cheap price.

        • +1

I've had an epic run of LG phones with no problems whatsoever.

          4XHD > G Pro > G2 > G3 (had 4 of these in my share house, all good) > V10.

Absolutely loving the V10 even though it's no longer cutting edge. The camera quality is stunning (manual controls, raw, low light performance) but the sound quality out of the dac is a game changer for me (I was initially dubious about this).

Highly subjective of course, but to me the build quality is more solid than any other Android I've ever held (better than V20 imho).

      • Nexus was cheap phone, of course it doesn't lived up to it's name.

      • Ive had 2 g4's and have loved it, especially after Apple which became progressively like being in a prison.
Admittedly im 6"4 with large hands….

  • +2

has 2560 screen and 5.7" …… looks like nice phablet and band 28 ……..

    • +2

I'm enjoying mine, only a few days old (paid more than this unfortunately). That second screen which I thought would be a total gimmick is actually proving handy. The camera(s) are great too. Late 2016 flagship phone for <$500 is pretty good in my book.

      • case
      • screen protectors

You may have change from $500 total.

      • I love the second screen! Part of the reason I bought mine.

        • +1

I've only really taken notice of it in the last 24 hours but I now have my shortcut apps living up there so I can access things in a hurry. Notifications are cool, and favourite contacts. It's a great feature, might actually tie me to LG in the future unless others implement this feature lol.

  • +3

Should i give LG another chance after my G4 went kaput

    • +3

Nope. I know a few people personally that have had the boot loop issues that plague this handset and others from LGs stable. May as well get a cheaper galaxy S6 even though it's older.

      • +2

There have been no boot loop issues with this phone

        • Wrong. Was added to the lawsuit for the nexus 5x etc.

        • @adrianhughes1998: but has they're been any boot loops reported?

        • @jackwoz:yep. Not as much but there has been

        • +1

I believe there has been no more reported than any other phone. My point is that there has been no faults found with this phone, as of yet. Yes, the same issue may happen after a year of use. I am a strong supporter of innocent until proven guilty, and I believe (so far) this phone is innocent. I personally have a v20 and has been flawless

    • +1

Only if you buy local stock or from qd-au or Kogan. I had bootloop issue with g4 bought from qd-au and they honoured the 1 yr warranty and handled it in an acceptable timeframe (3 weeks). I am unsure about vaya

I decided to give it another go this time and bought a v20 from qd-au again. - if LG can't fix hardware design issue during g5 and v10 product cycle then this company does have some very serious problem.

I have already blacklisted Asus, Acer and Benq on my future purchase list. Hopefully not adding LG into the list.

  • I grabbed one for $441 the other night from a Hong Kong seller using the 15% off sitewide coupon.

    • +4

worth the $30 here when it starts to bootloop.

      • 9 months in and not a single reported case of a V20 bootlooping yet, or am I mistaken? I reckon LG have fixed that now.

        • +4

To be fair, most of the Nexus 5X complaints on Whirlpool, including mine, happened about a year in.

        • +3

          Yet…

        • +1

There's been a handful, possibly related to dodgy type-C cables, with a good response from LG.
Nothing like the scale of the G4
But given LG's record people will jump to conclusions based on any reports suggesting that these bootloop
Which is fair enough IMO until LG can rebuild some trust

Which case did you get and how do you like the camera?

        • +1

Because it doesn't happen until around the 12 month mark! Just look up the G4, V10, Nexus 5X, and G5.

The issue is the solder LG uses on the motherboard. Over time, with constant heating and cooling, it cracks and the contact points are lost. LG switched to a glue instead of solder for the G6.

Every deal for the V20 has had posts defending LG and claiming the V20 does not suffer the bootloop issue of previous LG phones, but it is still too early to know.

        • LG V10 didn't have any bootloop reports until about 6 months later.

        • @aja12:

Na my G4 bootloop 9 months in, and there were plenty going around the 6 month mark.

        • @based:

I bought the VRS Carbon Fit case but it hasn't arrived yet. To be honest the phone feels like it needs more bulk, either a good quality case and/or extended battery. The VRS case has a bit of heft to it without looking ugly so it should make it feel perfect then.

The camera I've only had a real good go with today and I'm really happy with it. I haven't watched back anything on TV/Monitor yet to see if the cooler tone is really noticeable (I'm about to copy some stuff over after I write this reply). But yeah it's nice, and the wide angle lense is amazing for shots you couldn't normally get before.

EDIT: Though I have noticed one potential problem. This happened once today and a few times just now. When waking the phone up from sleep it can sometimes be unresponsive or not want to wake up at all. It feels like the problem is caused by something in the background (and I reckon its the fingerprint security feature) so I've disabled that to see if it fixes it. Bit of a bummer if it needs to be disabled but not really a critical feature to me anyway.

        • @aja12:

Fair enough thanks for explaining. And I wasn't defending just asking but yeah I've seen each deal attracts both sides.

        • @Click_It:

Quick update: Since disabling the fingerprint sensor my phone hasn't had that laggy/unresponsive issue so that appears to have been the problem. I'll be curious to find out if other V20's have this issue.

          And to syousef:

Yeah I heard cheap USB Type-C cables are a real problem. So far I'm only using the genuine cable but have ordered some 'Benson approved' BlitzWolf cables.

  • +1

Very good deal. Not many dual sim phones that have 3 slots. Plus this has a removable battery and quad dac. Camera is very good plus the wide angle front and back I really like.

    • Moto Z Play -3 slots longer battery life, better software, Moto mods. Has Band 28

      • V20 has band 28, removable battery and better processor in the Sd820 over the SD625. Runs the same software just a preference on the skin. Chuck on nova for consistency

        • Removable battery is an advantage vs. 2 full day real world battery life? The difference between CPU in real world tests is negligible. Software is not the exactly the same and why should a user have to put any other software on the phone to have a good experience?

        • +1

If this is true then I am guessing you use a 20 year old Nokia 3310?

      • Moto is another cheap china phone my friend. Better software?? how so they're all on Android.

        • -1

LG V20 phones are made in China and Korea. Infact according to this thread the China made ones don't have the booloop issue.

          https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/5jclb8/updated_my_v2…

Software is closer to stock android on the Moto than on the LG hence a more true Android experience.

So 'friend' what's your point? What's 'cheap' about it?

  • -1

    Looping garbage.

  • +1

specs are top notch & rivals the bests, but reliability is an issue.

  • Can't decide between this or the HTC 10 Vaya is selling. I like the bigger screen idea of the LG but also like the simpler HTC Android experience I've never used LG before. What would you choose between the two?

    • +1

      HTC

    • HTC

    • +3

The HTC 10 is fantastic. I really do miss mine. Build quality was just unreal, speakers were great, battery life was good. Great phone.

      • What phone do you have now?

I'm pretty tempted by the HTC 10 myself…

I don't need to but I certainly want to replace my Nexus 5…

        • Redmi note 2. Wife has Nexus 5x work no issues so am surprised to read about bootloop being a common issue. But I've decided against the v20 unless there is local support for warranty given the unproven reliability.

        • I have a Galaxy S8+ now. HTC 10 would be a huge step up from a Nexus 5.

      • What did you replace the HTC with then out of curiosity?

        • Galaxy S8+ :)

        • +1

          @deanylev:

I can only assume you wanted it for VR or just the bigger screen or you have a load of money. Not flaming but what is the major advantage you have found with the Samsung? I do like the idea of VR on the Samsung S8+.

UPDATE: OK have seen more of the S8+, no need to reply, it's awesome.

        • @Cubacat: Mainly for the display. S8+ screen is giant and simply gorgeous.

I sold my 10 and paid out my contract, then got this on contract for $72/month :)

        • @deanylev: Sorry just wondering, which carrier offers this plan?

        • @NilFBosh: Virgin Mobile with the Velocity deal. Unlimited calls + text and 4GB of data.

    • +1

I personally switched from the HTC 10 to LG G5, but switching back to the 10 soon. The G5 is ok, I like that the battery is easily replaceable…but the battery life is horrendous and I have to constantly replace it, build quality also pretty bad on the G5 almost toy like…so I think htc might be the way to go.

      • My G5 battery life was bad until I deleted half of the Apps that I had installed. Now I get 1.5 days use out of mine, basically doubling the usage time. Had no time to pinpoint the app that caused the battery drain though. Might have been the flashlight app.

Now I'm thinking selling the G5 (and my old HTC M8) and going for this V20, or HTC 10.

        • +1

I think it will come down to whether you like using the wide angle camera. Considering that the V20 camera is almost identical to the G5…I personally find that the camera is better on the HTC (down side is no wide, obviously). Battery life might be a little better on the 10, though the battery isn't removable. Audio will be better on both compared to G5. And this might not be something you care about, but I really dislike on screen buttons…so I like the capacity buttons on the HTC 10.

        • @clse945111:

I did love my M7 and M8, but now I use S7 Edge as my daily device and I feel M10 would become a nice "spare".

          Tough choice.

    • Reading reviews this phone has possibily the best audio. If you are an audiophile you should probably get this if not I think there are better options

      • The htc 10 also has great audio too, with a discrete dac just like the v20.

        • lol. didn't realise. thanks for pointing that out!

        • @Gimli:
HTC10 has quite good audio, but this is definitely a step up from that. Nothing else comes close in the phone range, in fact this is a better player than any device I've ever owned (several iPods, Cowon players etc)

HTC10 would def do the job well enough if you don't have demanding headhpones though.

    • -1

      Moto Z Play

  • Mah bootloopin' LG's drivin' me crrrazy…..

  • +1

It's cheap, but i'd rather buy a Xioami with the same specs for half the price.

    • xiaomi no band 28 ….. so not same spec… also xiaomi no Australian support …. warranty is send back to china ….. I buy buy Xiaomi for my kids as they are cheap phablets, but wouldn't use one if my business depended on it and I needed local warranty.

  • +2

I'm enjoying mine. Think I paid about $600 for mine. Don't know, I've been through a g3, g4, and now this. Wife still using the g3, no problems so far. I guess I've been lucky. Still, I have to say, the g4 had better image quality on auto. Throw the camera in manual though and you get amazing results. Audio quality is out of control. At this price it's a steal. Though I must say, the phone is big, bigger than a iPhone plus. So it might bother some.

    • Yeah it's too big, get an iring or style ring and it's a godsend :x

  • That or the LG G6?

  • +1

Only thing going for this phone imho that it has a 32 Bit Hi Fi Quad DAC which means you can drive high end headphones without an external AMP. Great if you want to experience music to the fullest on the go. Also it was on MKBHD as the most Underrated phone of 2016

  • +1

LG phones are dropping in value very quickly.

    • -2

all android phones drop quickly, that's why people buy them ….. only apple keep their resale value.

      • +2

LG phones in particular drop really really (I mean really) quickly though. Just look at the G6, it's already ~$600.

        • thats very good. once this thing drops to $300 range i will grab one.

        • Hey man, where can I see LG G6 for around $600? Thank you

        • @Binni:
It was with 15% off code on eBay. At the moment with the 20% off selected sellers it's around $630.

        • LG asked for it when they used Snappie 821 instead of 835

I don't mind upgrading my G2 to the G6 once it reaches the $300 range

  • +3

Some of the feedbacks from this seller, seal broken, late deliver, item never arrived and fake.

  • +1

The dual sim, removable battery and quickcharge support make this a great phone.

  • +2

Beware of Vaya, I bought Iphone 7 on last sale with them. Although the phone is still sealed, its already been activated. They said that its automatically activated when I made the transaction. The phone is fine till now but I'm sure that the phone is not supposed to be activated before I get my hands on it.I knew because my housemate bought iphone 7 as well but from Kogan, the phone is not yet activated when it arrived.

  • +2

If people really want such an unreliable phone as this, you'd really want local warranty and not one from HK - because there's a very, very good chance you're going to need to use that warranty when your V20 gets stuck in a bootloop or magically dies.

    • +2

With the amount of new phones coming out every year, I'd be begging for my v20 to break down in order to get a new one.

      • Haha, that's one way of looking at it! Might get a nice credit note from the seller. :)

  • +2

    Never LG again.

  • +1

Nice price. Isnt the v30 be released soon

    • +2

Yep, but you'll probably need to wait a year before they are this price…

      • +1

Yeah the G6 is the only step up from the V20 anywhere close to these prices.

  • Would Avaya sell the HTC U11 (from the HK market)

  • did anyone compare the v20 vs mate 9? I'm not sure which way to go… but at this price it might make the choice easier..

  • -7

Just get Galaxy phones, they're the king of Android, no need to waste time with other brands. Never get cheap china phone.

    • +4

no need to waste time with other brands

But waste time on galaxy lag, why?

    • Wow what an uneducated comment that is! Oppo outsold Samsung in Q1 2017.

      http://9to5google.com/2017/05/10/oppo-global-smartphone-sale…

Please stop spreading lies. Time to leave OZB and head off to whirlpool

  • Thanks! Bought one!

  • Need some expert advice - Is this a good buy? LG G4 as new for $218

    • +1

Careful with bootloop on G4s. Got mine replaced luckily. It was about a week over warranty

  • anyone know if it comes the b and o headphones?
