How to cover a tile in bathroom wall?

In my bathroom wall, there is 1 title in different color than the rest of the wall. The title is next to the shower faucet. The size is 12 cm x 24 cm.

The wall is not new, so if i put a new title in, it will be stand out.

I'm looking for a bathroom dispenser to cover the place, but couldn't find a decent one doesn't look too bulky. So i have to consider other options.

Do you guys have any DIY suggestion how to fix the wall?

Thank you

click on "my account" —-> "files" —-> "upload new file".

then once uploaded then open the photo in your browser, copy the URL and paste that in to the post.

        get a mirror from a $2 shop.

If the tiles are ceramic, you could repaint them all and update the whole look of your bathroom.

Painting just one will undoubtedly make it stand out.

    • that's the wall around shower area, so i'm afraid paint will pealed off because of water and steam

you dont use normal paint, you use paint specifically for tiles and wet use.

pull out a few a few random tiles and put different colored ones in and say its artistic choice.

    • I have no skills to replace a tile without damage the whole wall

then remove the whole wall - then you wont see any damage!

        • that's how I started my bathroom renovation… destroying it bit by bit patch work and band aid fixes until I had enough and did a complete bathroom renovation.

having said that I was able to delay the renovation from the fist leaky shower to complete renovation was 2 years worth of patch work

  • Why bother? Seems fine the way it is.

  • Could you stick a soap holder/ basket there? the one that you currently have seems to be very inconveniently positioned.

    • haha… yeah! so high!

I would keep that one tile and replace the others

  • Tell yourself that the tiles were laid by a strict muslim tiler and the odd tile was intentional being that he always worked with the idea "that Only God Is Perfect" thus there must be an error included in work done by any humble, pious craftsman.

  • There is a place in Perth, that sell old and out of date tiles. http://www.tilelibrary.com.au/ Check if there is one in your city, that will fix it.

  • One of the suction dispensers sold by Aldi would cover the entire tile as anthing placed in the dispenser e.g shampoo, shower radio etc would cover it. Another idea to have a scenic or floral sticker.

  • Looks like there were problems before and the tile was removed to get to the pipes behind.
Is the tile below it damaged as well, looks like it has a saw cut on the top edge.

  • Replacing one tile isn't that difficult. Get onto YouTube and see how it's done. Alternatively, and what will probably give you a better outcome is to get proper tile paint, follow the instructions exactly and paint the lot.

If, instead of posting here you had got some freaky Google-fu on, you'd have the answer already. It's been asked before and has been answered before. This is what I do, and combining that with a can do attitude will get you a long way.

    • Even the most perfectly layed tile is gonna look out of place cause you'll never find exact match

  • Looks like it's missing grout too…..

  • Go to some different tile shops, ask for samples (free) that best match the colour, because every brand and every batch in that brand will be different shade of colour. Hopefully one will match. You will never get an exact match because of the age of your old tiles and again, the batches are different.

And yes, as per above, you want two tiles. That one below has a big saw cut.

Not sure of the wall construction, but if it's hollow behind the tiles (gyprock) then maybe get ready for hole patching too.

  • You could replace just that one row of horizontal tiles with mosaic tiles (or other) to look like a feature row of tiles

the tile before it was replaced with this one -which is probably the closest in colour and size that could be found. You can see the nicks on the other tiles when the saw is used to cut that one tile out. It looks about the place where a tile with a soap holder would have gone - the old sort of bar soap. Perhaps it got knocked and chipped and not safe anymore. It's not near the shower rose or taps so may be why it was replaced. If it was near those points of water inlet - then other tiles might be affected.Yes other tiles have been knicked by the saw when this one was replaced.

To be honest it is a big job just to replace one different tile particularly when the rest look old and a bit tired. The grout is discoloured or falling out - so further work on that would need to be done to totally spruce it up.

Yes you could replace a row of tiles to make it look decorative. But not a true DIY kind of job. You'd need the little electric saw that tilers use to cut through the adhesive so that you can chip the tile off. Depending on how thick this is will mean it is a long job or a shorter one. You need to clean the area back to the board and hopefully they have used waterproof board. You'll need to waterproof this area as well - as you've probably disturbed the waterproof skin/membrane made if waterproofing was done previously.

Probably the tile paint is going to give the best looking job and would be something that is DIY. You tube would have lots of videos to learn how to do this. Sticking anything else on the tile is going to make it stand out even more.

Why do you care? It's not like he rest of the bathroom looks amazing.

It's not that one tile that's ruining it.

My bathroom is worse, fyi, so I'm not trying to look down on you. I'm just saying, you're obsessing about a minor detail.

  • If in Melbourne try Keith Fagg in Bayswater, or email a photo, almost guaranteed to have that tile, or at least point you in the right direction.

  • If you wanted and quick fix you could buy some of the special tile transfers/decals (stickers) especially for bathroom tiles. You could do the whole row across to make a feature just by using the decals.
