  • Is this cable reliable to use, there have been reports of third party cables frying laptops/phones

I know Blitzwolf is good, but still a bit hesitant

    • +2

I've had quite a few Blitzwolf cables before and they've been fine.

Apparently the ampcore series is the improved version that doesn't fray as easily.

      • Thank u for the confidence, hopefully this won't fry up devices , there is something calle Benson approved and this doens't appear on the site, so worried a bit

          @SevenSmurfs:

That is a review for the OLD version of the cable. Benson has NOT reviewed this version of the cable.

        • +1

@caprimulgus: Overall not every cable need to be Benson approved, as long as the specs are followed.

Reason why cables were frying devices was that earlier cables were missing the 56kΩ resistance, which according to the USB-C standard this would tell the device to switch to "legacy" USB charging and not draw the new USB-C voltages and amps.

Yes, of course. Just stating the fact that this cable has not been approved by Benson, in case anyone was wrongly relying on that info (which is demonstrably false).

FYI, I actually own this cable myself! I just don't want people to wrongly assume that it has been approved by Benson, when it hasn't. That is a risk I am willing to take, and I am not suggesting that others shouldn't take it either - but they should do so knowing that it is a risk, and that it hasn't actually been approved by Benson.

I'm not suggesting that this is a bad cable, I am merely correcting the misinformation that this cable is Benson approved, when it isn't.

Reason why cables were frying devices was that earlier cables were missing the 56kΩ resistance, which according to the USB-C standard this would tell the device to switch to "legacy" USB charging and not draw the new USB-C voltages and amps.

That is the main reason, yes. Apparently there can be other issues as well, but that is the main one.

In that case hopefully the new version is the same or better!

  • Thanks op

Can save a few cents by checking out in USD if you have a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees.

$2.99 USD is roughly $3.99 AUD.

  • Got one. Ty :)

  • Bought one !!!

  • WHAT?! I just ordered this for $4.91 half an hour ago:

    • +4

      That's a micro USB cable..

      • Oh, so it is. Thought they were the same, my bad. :)

  • thanks op. bought one

  • +5

I bought 2 because it says it is strong enough to pull a car. Pretty handy to use in emergency situations !

  • Any deal on their lightning cables?

  • Thanks OP. Bought 1 Type C and 1 microUSB cable.

  • Don't have any USB-C devices. Worth stocking up?

    • Get them as you will eventually have devices with them.

  • +1

Will this work for the Nintendo Switch?

    • Also wondering this, I bought some anyway but itd be nice if they worked with the Switch.

    • I had a look at this and the short answer is: Yes.

So apparently the only thing that affects charging speed is what adapter ur charging from.

So a Type C -> Type C would charge faster, but obviously you couldn't plus this Type A -> Type C in.

      See: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/5x948s/answ…

  • Bought 4 coz why not…

  • Ordered one..

  • Will order some, but wondering what's the advantages/disadvantages of this TC5 model (Ampcore) vs the TC1 which seems cheaper, both usb c?

Also any deals on lightning cable s(for the mrs - the cheap ones always stop drawing power and fray) in blitzwolf?

never used this brand but it seems it has some positive followings here on ozb - so is that a yes to ordering a few?

ALso - is it possible to get 2m versions of these? I couldn't see any on banggood?

  • Cheers OP ordered 2x.

Edit: What can I connect these to??

    • +1

      The new oneplus 5

      • Or any of their phones since the one plus 2

  • Somehow ended up with 4 of the TC5's per this post, 2 of the TC6's which are 1.8m length. I'm curious - do usb cords lose power efficiency and speed of charging if I go up to the TC7 which is 2.5m length?

For now it wasn't on special ($9.28 aud for 2.5m vs $7.50 for the 1.8m vs the $4.06 here for the 1m) so I went with the 1.8m . I feel like my sweet spot is 1.8-2.2 m so 2.5m is too long, 1.8m too short (first world problems).

May also throw in some lightning cables, is this a decent price? Seems like it's not on sale, and maybe i should wait since shipping is free even if I order it later?

  • anyone knows how long shipping takes?

    • +1

About a month for me (metro NSW)

  • Time to stock up on USB-C cables now I have a device that uses them. It'd be hell if I lost the only one I have (which came with the phone).

  • As someone who's never used QC before, I am abit confused - which of these in car blitzwolf QC3.0 chargers is best? I need it for the s8, but the mrs who has an iphone 7 i think, which i believe the more expensive (normally $27) one supports:

    https://www.banggood.com/Qualcomm-Certified-BlitzWolf-BW-C10…

This cheaper one says type c in the title description, but I don't know if that's because it's got a type c usb port on it (why would you need this reversed anyway? as in type c going from charger into a presumably usb or something on the other end)?

    https://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-Qualcomm-Certified-Quick-…

I assume I should just get the first one as it comes with 4 ports? All 4 would work for QC3.0 with the s8+, and the mrs iphone would have her fast iphone charging right? The picture advertises it as "POWER 3S" , i have no idea if this is apple's official version equivalent of QC 3.0 however?

Has anyone used these blitzwolf chargers? I'm happy using the cables for first time - but i am wary when it comes to safety both personally and the phone when using non manufacture powerpoint or in-car chargers (e.g. i reuse my old phones like htc, samsung and apple's power point usb chargers, and just add cables, but never use these chinese or other branded ones)?

All safe/good to go with blitzwolf? If so i would order one or two more QC3.0 powerpoint usb chargers if anyone has one to recommend? (one for leaving at the mrs place)

    • I think you misunderstand what type c is. The type c port on the first charger is for charging type c devices with a type-c to type-c non-legacy cable. This allows charging at faster speeds than legacy cables (type-A to type-C).

If you have a type-c device, and don't need to charge more than two devices (or more than 1 non-type-c device), then the first one is more suitable for you.

If you need to charger more than 2 devices, or need to charge 2 non-type-c devices, then the second one is going to be more suitable. However, if you have type-c devices, those will charge slower than on the first charger.

Neither charger is "better" than the other - just more suitable for different uses. I have one of each (a two port with USB-c, and a 4-port), but older versions with only QC2.0.

And blitzwolf chargers are great! I have switched all my chargers to Blitzwolf and Tronsmart chargers, and haven't had any issues!

      • Thanks for the education.

So what it would be is I would need to charge my gfs iphone so usb (standard - is that A?) plug to lightning cable.

The second device would be my samsung s8+ which i understand is a usb to usb-c style cord is it not (i haven't actually opened the device yet).

As such I am abit confused, you said the second was more suitable for more than 2 devices, or 2 non type c devices? Did you mean the first link, which has the 4 usb ports?

The second link has one usb port and one usb type c style port? I would assume from what you're saying the first link - with 4 usb ports- would therefore suit my usb to usb-c samsung s8+, and standard usb to lightning cable for the mrs iphone. It would then have 2 other slots for other usb devices which I will assume are non type c or quick charge enabled.

From what you are saying even with QC3.0 an usb to usb-c cable would charge slower than those with usb-c to usb-c cables?

On the whole however - one would still get QC3.0 speed in recharging using a legacy usb to usb-c cable? Just not as fast as a pure usb-c to usb-c cable?

        • +1

Oh sorry, I mixed up the first and second chargers (opened both windows at the same time, and the tabs got mixed!).

Yes, reverse everything I said! :)

Yes, your gf's iPhone needs USB-A (using USB-A to lightning cable).

Your s8 can use either USB-C (using a direct USB-c to USB-c cable), or USB-A (using legacy USB-A to USB-c cable). The USB-c port should charge it quicker than the USB-a port (although I am not certain about the s8 specifically).

I say it "should", because it depends on how Samsung has implemented the type-c port. On a compliant USB-c port, yes, it will charge faster by USB-c to USB-c. But I'm not sure if Samsung has implemented the type-c port in a fully compliant way, so can't answer you on that specifically.

Also, AFAIK S8 doesn't support QC3.0 anyway. I'm not 100% on that, so you'll have to check, but from what I have read in the past, the S8 doesn't support qc3.0/4.0, even though the chipset it uses can support both! So you'll only get qc2.0 speeds anyway.

Anyway, sorry, that probably doesn't help you much! I have a windows phone, so I can't help with the s8!

TBH, even if the USB-a charging is slower, it shouldn't be THAT much slower…so if the 4-port is more useful, then just get that one. You probably won't miss the slight speed decrease (if there is one).

My 950xl is type-c fast charge, not qc2.0/3.0/4.0, so the type-c charge is definitely better for me! YMMV

      • Haven't seen tronsmart, but great to hear the blitz wolf are ok! I'll scope out the car chargers and maybe some wall chargers tonight - did yo have any to recommend? Is there somewhere more reliably cheaper than banggood? Although I note a fair few of the chargers are US/EU plug on the banggood, which is a bummer as I don't want to carry a plug around.

edit: on a more technical note, when you start getting into all this QC3.0 tech with up to 24watts and what not, what is the backward compatability with 1A and other usb devices, iphones etc? As per this listing it apperas you can charge iphones still but just wondering when searching through other brands and equipment if there is any watts or amps that one should as a general guide avoid in order to not bust their devices? e.g. if i start connecting up the kindle, ps4 controller, other usb devices to charge?

I know nothing about electrics so was just curious if the adapters and devices simply adapted the max watts/amps to suit the device being charged to ensure no harm?

        • Older devices will charge fine using qc3.0 ports, they are backwards compatible.

I have the tronsmart 5-port (USB-a only) wall charger - an older model with one qc2.0 and 4 regular ports. I bought it from either gearbest or banggood…don't remember which!

Again, your usage will depend on the s8 (which I'm not 100% sure about). Personally, I would look for a charger that had a USB-c port on it, but otherwise, the 5-port USB-a chargers will still work fine (even if slightly slower) - I'm still using my 5-port USB-a only charger for my 950xl (which is USB-c).

A USB-c port, especially one that supports high voltage over usb3.1 PD (power delivery) would be the best for future proofing though! That's what I myself am waiting for a deal on!

Also, most of the wall chargers use a standard "figure 8" cable, so even if you buy one with an eu/us plug, you can swap them over easily to an au plug (you may already have one of those figure 8 cables lying around from an old device!).

Hope that is somewhat helpful…sorry if I've just added to the confusion! (This is the problem with having so many "standards" flying around!!!) :)

        • @caprimulgus:

Not too sure what you mean by a figure 8 cable? But with the QC 3.0 someone tried explaining on whirlpool and my understanding is to take advantage of QC3.0 one needs a 2.1A crossed with various volatages? Was it up to 18W to get a quick charge? Regardless, as long as I get one with 2.1A and a higher voltage range, I should be fine with QC3.0, and as you said it would be backward compatible with normal usb charging devices - so others wouldn't notice the difference.

        • @caprimulgus:

THis was the post i saw explaining it:

"We're dealing with DC so to calculate power (in Watts) we multiply the Voltage x Current (amps).

          The original USB spec was 5v @ 0.5A = 2.5W
Most modern things that charge over USB (Apple included) can draw 5v @ 2A = 10W
          Quick charge 2.0 can do 5v / 9v / 12v @ 2A / 2A / 1.5A = 10W – 18W
Quick charge 3.0 is much the same power but can go up to 20v for higher efficiency.

The phone and charger communicate to pick the right strategy – a decent 5V / 2A charger will kick out 10W and do a pretty good job of charging anything regardless of brand. A QC 2.0 / 3.0 charger can do this but also give a bit extra juice to compatible devices when the batteries are at a low level. You can run in to trouble with some chargers where they don't detect the phone properly and default to a low power state.

An reasonable option is to get a decent 5v 2a charger (I have a blitzwolf one in my car and it does a good job). Better is a QC2.0 / 3.0 one.
Type A or Type C plugs won't matter – just get whatever is convenient for your cables or order new cables to suit.

I'd probably go with the BW-C9 – built in USB-C cable for your phone plus a standard type A.
Or the BW-C8 plus buy a USB-C to USB-C cable"

So i assume one needs to find out what watts you need for your phone e.g. samsung s8+ to get the most decent efficient, fast charge. Being QC3.0 I am not sure if 20V gets partnered with a lower amps? I dont know electricals so I am not sure if higher volts, lower amps, to get the same high watts is better than a lower volts, higher amps for same watts?

Maybe someone can comment how charging works? I would assume you want the most watts. so with the QC2.0 calc outlined above, 9v x 2a = 18Watt.

  • What's a good wall changer for a laptop to go with these?

  • PayPal checking going to chinese site? Weird

  • I bought two lightning cables from them before (also Blitzwolf). One was faulty but they asked me to make a youtube video showing it not working as evidence. Of course, I didn't bother. While I believe it is fair enough to stop scams, it is just inconvenient and I thought I'd let guys be aware.

    • fair enough though - just make the video? If you had a faulty cable you'd take it in store to get it changed (and it'd be looked at). Likewise - they want a video to show it's faulty? Fair enough to me? Otherwise we all know people would be pulling a dodgy all the time.

  • any deal for 5A type c cable for huawei mate 9 pro?

  • Do need a few of these now I've got the S8 (and especially since Samsung chose not to supply a cable with their wireless charger!) but am paranoid about the frying devices chat I've seen. Any idea what I need to look for to avoid this with USB-C cables?

  • Deal shows as $7.50 now

  • The webpage is still showing $4.09 but adding to the cart it goes back to $7.50…

  • That's funny I must have got in at the last minute just bought one

  • Mmmm just spent 30 mins on LiveChat with them and they are adamant that promotion has finished….

  • Wanted to get a spare for the Switch, haha, left it too late. Until the next deal…

    • back in stock now

      • Thanks, purchased 2, saved another $0.35 with CR.

  • These are back in stock at that price.

  • Bought 3 this morning at the price posted

  • Thanks OP got one to replace Micro USB Type C adapter on last legs

  • Mine has shipped :D.

  • are these dash charge compatible with the oneplus

    • No you need a special charger and a special cable for that.
I believe there is an official oneplus dash car charger now

  • Woo Hoo got some at special price too…

  • Want to order for upcoming HTC U11, but HTC isnt listed? Any known compatibility issues with HTC? A UBC-C cable is universal so I cant see why not.

    • Should be fine.

      • Thanks, I just ordered 2 earlier this morning.

  • Hi, I dont think anyone answered SaberX's question about the difference between the TC1 and TC5 cables. I see the TC1 has 21AWG vs TC5 22AWG charging wire and the TC5 has kevlar vs TC1 nylon braided outer. So I'm guessing the TC1 charges quicker and TC5 more durable lol. Does anyone know whether the differences are actually that noticeable, let say using the 1.8m cable?

    • I thought I saw a post above before I went with the TC5 to state the 22AWG would have same charging as the 21AWG, albeit more durable? So i figured I'd go with the newer ampere model: the TC5.

I assume the kevlar comes with the 'can tow a car' claims of the TC5 haha. I went 1.8m as i assume the 2.5m might start to show energy loss?
