  • Is the rear suspension lockable?

  • Can adults ride this as well?

    • yes can be used by adults

    • These days 14 years old and 40 years old have the same body mass, even the same mentality as well. As long as the bike concerned, doesn't matter.

Neg on the basis that this bike, 99% has a sticker on it that says not for offroad use. People, pls don't take this bike on 'tougher and steeper terrain'.

LOL! What is the purpose of a mountain bike then?

    • Astonishing! I doubt OP knew that. It is mystifying why 2 Members neg-voted such a helpful warning. Have a plus-vote.

      • Calvin27 is correct. Fairly common labelling on bikes of the Big W/Kmart ilk. You get what you pay for, and cheap self assembly bikes in no way will keep you safe offroad (no sane company would offer that…for obvious reasons)

      • +2

Because these types of warnings are legal backside covering. It's fairly evident that a $100 bike isn't going to last the distance on rough terrain but it won't magically blow up either. Majority of people who buy these bikes never take it offroad let alone on rugged conditions. So the warning is really obvious and pointless.
        PS I didn't neg him

        • Neither did I. Also, I have first hand experience of these failures - handlebars, rims, and cranks on these types of bikes failing. A parent might buy it for the kerb, but an adventurous youth may not know the limitations. And it is fairly easy in an urban environment to find terrain that would be beyond the structural capabilities of a bike like this. Avoid injury, know what you're buying.

Where are you seeing this info?

  • This bike is okay. However, you get what you paid for. I will biy one as they are better quality than the aldi one. Use this bike for road is good as you go on kerb and down the curb, the suspension can help. But dont take this bike to steep terrain.

  • Bought. Thanks OP. Should be good enough for my son to mistreat for 2 or 3 years before it goes out onto the nature strip. Not light, but not too heavy. Past experience with these sorts of bikes is it will need some fiddling to make sure the brakes and gears work properly, and maybe a couple of things might benefit from upgrading, but the basics should be fine.

FWIW Couldn't find this on the Kent website, but I suspect this is one that gets rebadged and sold under different names. Eg it looks a lot like https://www.walmart.com/ip/29-Genesis-V2900-Men-s-Mountain-B… (although I think the HN one may have smaller wheels…. but a lot of good reviews for it) or this http://www.allthingsjeep.com/ken-jeep-renegade-full-suspensi…

    • Oh. Also remembered to use my amex (spend $350, get $50 back) - so have another $200 or so to find in the next month or so… ;-)

So bike arrived yesterday, assembled last night, pumped up tyres and took for quick ride this morning. First impression is it's a good bike. Weight about 17kg so not lightweight by any stretch of the imagination, but could be worse. Has a rear locking kickstand. Didn't come with tools to assemble, so be aware you'll need some - couple of Hex keys, Philips head screwdriver, and some spanners. Generic assembly manual which I ignored. Overall, fairly impressive for the price given it included delivery.
