Which of these department stores are the best for clothing? Just for things like socks, briefs, sweatpants and basic t-shirts for casual use. Don't care about brand name. I'll throw in Best & Less into the mix too.
Or can someone convince me it's worth paying extra for briefs/socks from an established brand that will last a long time and can justify the price.

Most are made in Bangladesh actually.
Usually DFO stores eg. Quicksilver, Billabong, Trade Secret
Uniqlo or if that's too much, Target
KMart for socks. 3 black pairs for $2. I have about 60 identical socks in a drawer (7 pairs unused) and even I can count to 2 … usually. No need to match coloured socks like in my youth, and young ladies never cared what colour socks I wore anyway.
I too subscribe to the buy lots of one style when you know what you like method too.
my children wear whatever socks they pull out, so a matching pair does not happen very often.
Youth wearing socks? Wow you mustn't be fashionable
You have to be careful with Target not to pay too much - they aren't extremely cheap like they used to be, and the likes of Uniqlo and H&M on sale can be better quality and cheaper.
For socks and briefs I think Bonds is higher quality than the generic stuff at Target etc I always buy mine from Bonds DFO or online
T shirts definitely uniqlo they are comfortable and last forever, compared to my target T shirts I bought as PJs that wore out.
Great advice, thanks guys. I looked at H&M and they are pretty good price wise. Would their quality be the same as a regular department store or is it actually more comfortable/durable? Better than Target?
nah..H&M are fast fashion garbage. Get yourself some Uniqlo. Around the same price point but better construction and material. Muted and subtle design and pattern but 20 years down the road, it wouldn't look out of place.
I highly doubt a pair of socks or underwear will last 20 years haha
I was referring to the design and or pattern since they don't just do what is 'on trend', which is what H&M is doing.
If you're after tapered sweatpants, avoid H&M - the material they use is cheap/fluffs up and doesn't last long. Would recommend getting a pair from Uniqlo, much better quality.
Also branded briefs are worth it imo; they last.
As someone who used to work at both, don't expect quality from H&M. 'Basics' are affordable, but generally inferior to even Uniqlo poly. H&M Sport is okay for the price, decent technical leggings and hoodies for a fraction of the price of Nike, Under Armour, etc. The sport socks are great quality for the price (3x pairs for $20). But overall, even the more 'premium' H&M concepts like LOGG aren't great, and Modern Classics is about Tarocash/yd. level quality.
All my basics mostly are filled with Uniqlo…I got my friend addicted to the brand lol. She spent x3 as much as me, was crazy.
Honestly, if you want amazing prices and quality the cheapest would have to be DFO.
Uniqlo and H&M are also great for higher quality clothing such as sweatpants or sweatshirts for the winter. The material is much better than Kmart, Target and BigW cotton which starts collecting those annoying lint balls on them after a few wears. Higher quality cotton clothes are great :)Will definitely be checking out H&M and Uniqlo then. Do they usually have sales or are their prices usually fixed? If they do have sales do they tend to be flash sales or during certain events?
Cmon !!! think harder…. you know you know the answer
I don't know how crazy the sales get i.e if there are like 10%/30%/50% sales. Never shopped there before or paid much attention to them
H&M will frequently discount SKUs but getting what you want or even knowing it's marked down, is a crapshoot. There is no in-store inventory, and no online store here yet. Percentage off sales within store are rare, but bring a musty old shirt or something and recycle it at one the counter bins for 15% off card.
Uniqlo has seasonal sales all the time, which brings their prices about in line with H&M anyway, just search for past deals here.
I find the quality is all similar but kmart is cheaper - target seems to have gone up in price
Best n less for undies
Kmart for basics eg Tshirts
Big w and Best n Less for general clothes.
Target have a limited range and it it expensive for what it is.
I feel rich sitting here in my Louis Vuitton business shirt.
we travel to Los angeles every 2 years or so for family..
we hit the factory outlets over there and have a stock pile of basic clothes that are branded at a similar cost at what you would pay at H&M or Uniqlo, and even target and Big W,
fashion in America is dirt cheap.. we pay too much here,
having said that.. i like the $12 Plain polos shirts at target
Forget those stores.
I suggest you try UNIQLO. better quality and styles.Yeah I did in the end. Great quality for the price
MOst of my clothes now from UNIQLO . ( The only thing I like most is they provide free pant alteration ).
New store will opening soon in High Point.
Don't think it matters. This is like Coles versus Woolworths. They may all come out of the same Chinese factories anyway. Actually, even Coles and Woolworths sell socks and jocks, although Wollies has their own essentials generic brand but Coles may not.
