ANZ Refusing Signup Bonus Points (60K Velocity Points)

I applied for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Credit Card with the bonus sign up offer of 60K velocity points (deal posted in January (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/287907). I've just followed up with ANZ as not yet received the points, they are now disputing the points as, although I applied before the card before the cut-off date (15th Feb), the card was not approved by ANZ until after that date.

The terms and conditions of the offer state:

"Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Point offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures account by 15 February 2017 "

What are you thoughts? I read "new and approved" as both people that have applied and people who have been approved before the cut-off date.

Thanks

I interpret it as you have to have your application in by 15th Feb not approved by 15th Feb

Read the Terms and Conditions, as simple as that

Escalate to a supervisor/manager, wait. If still an issue, then go to ombidsman. Wait. They will contact you again with a result.

Had a similar problem re: No annual fee. Since you applied before the cut off date, you should be ok (which was the case for me)

    • I second the ombudsman. But before you do that, make sure all communication with ANZ is in writing.
Ask them to issue you with an internal resolution process number and tell them if not resolved to your satisfaction you will take this to the ombudsman. Include a demand for twotimes the annual fee as compensation plus and double the original points promised in the promotion.

If that still fails. Then collect all the evidence and apply through the FSO and there ask that the amount to be doubled for all compensation (so 4 times annual fee as monetary compensation PLUS 4 times the points).

The FSO will act on the case, first reviewing it then asking the bank to respond.

Chances are you might get a counter offer from the bank itself at 5-6 times the annual fee on the condition you say the complaint is resolved. Knock that back asking for points and/or cash in lieu.

      Good luck.

      • That's pointless.

Go directly to ombudsman, they already denied the request.

The FSO will ask for evidence that you've followed the internal resolution process to the bank BEFORE you can even ask the FSO to intervene.

        • @edy4eva: thanks for going deeper (info wise…) go through the process. You don't run before you crawl…or something

Maybe this is the banks way of hitting up customer for the 0.06% they will be missing after the new budget.

First part sets out the class of people who can be rewarded ("new and approved applicants"), the second part sets out what this class of people need to do to be rewarded ("apply for XXX by 15 Feb 2017").

Assuming you meet those criteria, then I can't see how they have any leg to stand on.

  • I read it as "someone who's put in an application before 15 February who is a new customer and also gets their application approved".

Escalate through their formal complaints process, then the banking ombudsmen if you're not happy with their response.

    • Yeah interpret the same…everything finalised before the cut off date.

  • I had success with a similar situation with amex
Applied for the wrong card, applied for the right one and since I was an existing customer couldn't get the bonus
Spoke to a few supervisors and a they did it manually

Have you made the $500 of purchases required?

    • Yes, unfortunately very easily :-)

  • I have just had the exact same issue as this.

They're trying to claim the offer was by direct mail only despite it being advertised on their website.

    Complaint department game me nothing.

  • You are eligible (if you were new). You were approved, and you applied by 15 Feb

  • I'm going through the same process now - ANZ say i don't have the promotion linked to my account, but I'm 100% certain i signed up through it. I applied on Jan 19th and was approved the same day then met the minimum spend criteria a few weeks later.

Anyone have any luck getting something like this resolved? I've just lodged a complaint with them so will see what happens…
