You should also change your title to reflect the lens that it comes with

    • Done.

      Thank you.

Always look at the bigger picture when developing a post. It may be easy to make a post as quick as a flash, but your submission will get more exposure when posted with a more details. Don't worry but, it's not a big deal…don't get all red eyed…just smile.

        Sorry for the cheese-y post.

        • No Way!

I'm a newbie here n thank you for the suggestion.
This is my second post and suggestions are highly appreciated.

          @ashm:

Glad you didn't shutter at the feedback.

  • It hilarious 80D body only is currently listed at $1359

  • what lense are you going to get?

    • I'm planning to buy Canon EF 50nm f/1.8 STM & 55-220 lens along with camera.

      • Nice. dont forget to get a second battery at the same time they might throw that in or even the filters for the lenses.

        • I'm thinking of buying second battery from Ebay. Haven't decided yet though.

My friend suggested UV Filters. Is that necessary?

        • +2

@ashm: uv filters don't do anything except protect the lens. Lenses are more durable than you think and the ones you are looking at are almost as cheap as the filters themselves.

Unless you buy very good filters, they'll reduce the quality of your image.

If you want to take long exposures you might want to get an nd filter. I have a variable one so I don't need to keep changing it for different brightness levels.

My advice is to just forget about filters for now

        • @nubix: Wow, that's quite an explanation. Thank you. Taking off the UV filters from list right away.

        • @ashm: Depends on what sort of shots you're doing. Like Landscapes - Polarized or ND filters are handy for different exposures, but with a 50mm (that you're planning to get) thats mostly used for street or portraits shots, you don't really need a filter for that.

Get to know your camera first before buying accessories. Enjoy your purchase!

        • @ashm: depends why you want it. I wouldn't buy one for the image itself but I'd get one to act as protection for a lens.

You won't get a clear cut concensus on the subject. Some people swear against them, says it makes the image worse and the lens is robust enough. The other camp will state the image quality impact is basically non existent to the naked eye assuming a decent filter, and that it could save a potentially very expensive lens from scratches.

Not a completely dissimilar debate to putting screen protectors on phones really.

      • i don't think there's a 55-220 lens. jb site doesn't list the value 55-250mm, and the 55-200mm that's there isn't compatible with the 80d.

      • I've got both with an 80d. For me as an amateur it's a good start. The 55-250 has produced some nice shots of birds 30 or so metres away.

  • Don't worry about battery. You get 100s of shots out of a charge

    • Thank you for the advise.

Could you please lemme know if I gotta buy UV Filters for lenses?

I'm browsing in internet but haven't understood what they are talking about..

      • +1

wouldnt bother with them. look at them down the track.

        • Thank you Ronnie.

      • I've bought some Hoya and Kenko cheap UV filters just as protective layer against scratches.

    • Thank you for the advise.

What Ronnie said. You don't need them to get going. Worthwhile ones will cost the same as the lens you mentioned.

  • Sure thing.

    Thank you.

Wonder if you could try The Good Guys 30 Day Pricebeat guarantee and get it for $1229 (as well as a $50 store credit if you Click and Collect by 12 May). The 30% lenses rebate is also valid at TGG.

JB Price is $1274, TGG is $1499
Difference is $225 so pricebeat refund will be $270
    $1499 - $270 = $1229

  • You sound like you are new photography, curious why you would choose DSLR when mirrorless are the way of the future and likely to get much more use, due to the weight/bulk savings, and cheaper too.

As an amateur myself I bought the 80d 6 months ago last time the good guys had it at this price.
The 80d won in my eyes because of all of its features:
      - Battery life is sensational
      - Canon accessories (lens etc) are plentiful on the used market
      - Microphone and headphone inputs
      - Comfortable to grip
      - Top display to quickly look at settings

Mirrorless cameras are great but there were just a areas where they weren't up to scratch.

      • Agreed. The 80D, like it's 70D predecessor is considered one of the best cameras for video in the DSLR range. It's a fantastic all rounder.

My 70D is terrible on battery though :S

  • If already in tHis sort of price range, may look at full frame bodies…
