    Materials: Cotton/polyester

    Nope.

People: stop buying sheets based on thread count. Polyester feels nasty and it begins to pill after (subsequent) washing.

basic $20 IKEA sheets (310 thread count) would be a good choice for those on strict budgets (but beware of IKEA mattress sizing, they are different). Another alt is Briscoes

, for those who want a bit of quality should try getting some bamboo cotton sheets from Adairs (when they're half price and on sale).

Queen size, pretty important detail to include in title

ewwww id rather sleep on a plastic bag.

  • Whats the best type of sheets then?

    • +3

100% cotton, or cotton / bamboo blend.

Avoid anything with nylon or polyester.

    • Best is linen followed by bamboo.

The high thread count bedsheets are usually misleading, by counting individual threads within a thread, or by using a larger area to count the threads. A cheap 1,000 thread count sheet is usually has a true thread count of 250 per square inch.

Have a look at this K-Mart sheet. They label it 500 TC but it's per 10cm squared, so it's true TC is 125 (if my maths is correct). At least they are honest enough to provide their definition of TC on the packaging: http://www.kmart.com.au/product/australian-grown-cotton-shee…. (I actually own a set of these and they do seem quite luxurious though.)

  • How do people rate the 100% egyptian cotton sheets from eBay that sell for ~$50? For example:

    • The only concern I would have is if there is any issue with the dyes they were using. You can get sheets that smell a bit funky and take a few washes to get rid of it. This is why I prefer to buy sheets in bricks and mortar stores where you can touch them and smell them. (Yeah, people are probably backing away from me and not making eye contact whilst I do that.)

I'm guessing these are 100% knock-offs from China or India, not really Egyptian cotton.

Egyptian cotton is expensive and you should really only buy them once you feel the product and can tell it's a good quality sheet (in a B/M shop).

  • I agree with some of the other posters, I got cotton polyester sheets from Catch of the Day before and they really don't have the same feel as the cotton ones. You really want to rock your socks then get some 1200 TC cotton ones. Magnificent.

I received "1000TC" sheet sets from CotD yesterday (from this 20% off deal) - have the say not impressed - slept on them last night and they feel like 180-250 thread count.

Another example of you get what you pay for.. I have 2 more unopened sets I am considering sending back.
